Woman Rescues Kitten Thrown Out of Car in Garbage Bag, Then Comes a Twist

Newsweek2 days ago
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources.
A woman who saved a kitten tossed out of a car window in a trash bag had no idea what would happen next.
Melody Parson (@melodyandjiggy), 29, was working at an animal hospital in November 2019 and received a FaceTime call from a good friend and coworker. Traffic had come to a stop on the interstate because someone had thrown a kitten onto the road. The kitten, now named Jiggy, was seizing and bleeding from the nose.
"Delilah asked if she could bring her to our hospital and if I'd pay for the care. Our hospital was pretty strict about not doing any good samaritan services, but Delilah knew I'd help any cat in need.
"She brought Jiggy over and it was love at first sight. I knew she was going to be mine forever. The doctor told me to keep a close eye on her because she might not make it through the night. Jiggy surprised everyone by surviving as long as she has despite all her ailments," she told Newsweek.

Indeed, Jiggy, as the kitten came to be known, beat the odds that night and every day since.
A video shared to Instagram by Parson revealed that after Jiggy's surprise arrival into her life, would come yet another twist: the kitten never grew in size due to dwarfism. "I didn't know it yet but the kitten I rescued after she was thrown out of a car in a garbage bag was going to stay this size forever," the overlay text reads on the post which had received over 114,000 likes at the time of writing.
Now five years old, Jiggy's birthday is celebrated on Halloween—chosen for fun, since she was rescued in early November. "Her pint sized body packs a terrible diva attitude," Parson added.
Jiggy is known to yell to be let under the covers for a cuddle and growls at her feline sisters if they even look in her direction. "Everyone loves hearing her crispy little meows," she said.
Jiggy's development was different from the start. She didn't run or jump like a typical kitten, instead shimmying around. At four months old, she was significantly underweight and missing teeth, prompting a neurologist consult. The theory was that the trauma from being thrown from a moving car impacted her pituitary gland, stunting her growth.
Because Jiggy reacted poorly to anesthesia during her spay, doctors avoided further procedures like an MRI. Despite the lack of neurological symptoms beyond her small size and mobility issues, her condition has required careful monitoring. "She's never been able to jump like a normal cat, and she never will," her owner explained, noting that ramps and stairs help Jiggy stay mobile.
She's also had arthritis since the age of one and receives injections and supplements for the pain. Her dwarfism caused a kidney deformity, and she's been in kidney failure for most of her life. "This is especially hard to deal with since she has a disdain for wet food," she said. Despite that, her kidney values are monitored closely and have steadily improved with a special diet and treatment.
"I truly believe that Jiggy and I share a special bond," she said. "Sometimes I think that our love keeps her alive despite all odds being stacked against her. I am so grateful for all of the time I've gotten to share with her, and I hope we can have many more years together."
Support for Jiggy poured in from Instagram followers. "I'm so glad baby Jiggy is with someone who loves her as much as she loves you," one commenter wrote. Another added, "She's so lucky to have you. Whoever did that to her has no heart or soul to say the least. She's the most precious baby to walk the planet."
Another user summed it up: "How anyone could do that to any animal is beyond me. It makes me so upset. I'm happy miss Jiggy found you."

7 Love Islanders who have left the UK as Patsy relocates because she's 'too embarrassed' to work 9 to 5 job

Season 11 Love Island star Patsy Field has revealed that she's planning to move to Australia, as she feels "too embarrassed" to look for a regular 9 to 5 job in the UK a year after appearing on the ITV2 dating show. Speaking in an interview, she said: "I probably will be looking for a job soon, but I'm planning on moving to Australia." She added to The Sun: "A year post-show… I don't know if it comes with a little bit of embarrassment of looking for a normal 9 to 5 job." Patsy wouldn't be the first Islander to pack up her bags and relocate to another country after taking part in the show. Over the years, we've seen many contestants ditch the UK for opportunities overseas. Here's a list of all the Love Islanders who've made the move. Season 11 star Patsy is the latest Islander to join the trend of moving abroad. In a recent interview, she was asked if she considers herself an influencer, to which she responded: "I don't think I'm a very good influencer…I guess at the moment, yeah, you could say influencing — or just fun-employed, I think is the term, isn't it?" She then went on to say that she's planning on moving to Australia to find a job, explaining: "I feel like if I move to the other side of the world and maybe find one over there, I might feel a bit better about it.' Prior to being on Love Island, Andrew worked as an estate agent in Dubai. He returned to the UK after his time on the show and moved in with his girlfriend at the time, Tasha Ghouri. However, since their split he has now returned to Dubai, calling the move a "new start". Season four star Laura Anderson relocated to Dubai with her then-partner Dane Bowers. She's since moved back to the UK and now has a daughter with actor Gary Lucy. She regularly visits Dubai, and took her 16-month-old daughter Bonnie on a trip there earlier this year. Season four star Eyal Booker moved to LA in 2019 with his then-girlfriend Delilah Belle Hamlin. While he still considers London to be his home, he spends a lot of his time stateside and last year he moved into a luxury apartment there with his best friend Max and his girlfriend. Season five star Anton moved to Dubai after appearing on Love Island. He originally went on a brand trip but fell in love with the city, so he splashed out on a Bentley and an apartment. He later returned home to Scotland, calling the decision a "mistake". Speaking in a video, he explained: "After Covid, I got invited on an influencer trip to Dubai. As soon as I got there, I absolutely fell in love with the place - and I never came home. "I bought myself a Bentley, I bought myself an apartment on The Palm and I was absolutely living the dream. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there." Anton went on to explain how he invested £100,000 in a "gym concept", with plans to open a "nightclub gym". Season seven bombshell Abigail Rawlings has moved to US since appearing on Love Island. She works as a tattoo artist in LA, and judging from her Instagram page, she's having a pretty good time settling in there. Season two star Rachel Fenton returned to nursing after the reality TV show and she's since moved to Dubai, where she's continued her nursing career. New episodes of Love Island air on weekdays and Sundays on ITV2 at 9pm.

Donald Trump to Host UFC Fight on White House Grounds: What to Know

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump has said he is thinking of hosting an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at the White House to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence next year. Trump said the event would be a "full fight" with about 20,000 to 25,000 people in attendance. "So every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250. And I even think we're going to have a UFC fight," the president said during a speech at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on Thursday. Newsweek contacted the White House and UFC for comment by email outside regular working hours. President Donald Trump at a rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on July 3. President Donald Trump at a rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on July 3. Alex Brandon/AP Why It Matters Trump, an enthusiast for the sport, has attended multiple mixed martial arts matches in recent months and is a friend of Dana White, the UFC's president. The unprecedented White House event forms part of Trump's broader effort to celebrate the nation's 250th birthday, which is also expected to feature national ceremonies, military flyovers and special programs at national parks. Trump has also described plans for the "Great American State Fair," a nationwide series of events culminating on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Each state would have a pavilion to showcase its culture and contributions. What To Know Speaking in Iowa on Thursday, Trump said: "We're going to have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there." "Dana is going to do it," he continued, adding, "We are going to have a UFC fight—championship fight, full fight, like 20-25,000 people—and we are going to do that as part of 250 also." White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed after the speech that Trump was "dead serious" about hosting the event. Trump has regularly attended UFC fights, most recently last month in Newark, New Jersey. He also attended a fight in Miami in April. Trump's friendship with White goes back to at least 2001, when he allowed the UFC to hold a fight at his Trump Taj Mahal hotel in Atlantic City. White also introduced Trump at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last July. What People Are Saying A UFC official told CNN: "We are in discussions with the White House about hosting a UFC event on site." President Donald Trump said during his Memorial Day address in May: "We're gonna have a big, big celebration, as you know, 250 years. … In some ways, I'm glad I missed that second term where it was because I wouldn't be your president for that." Monica Crowley, the chief of protocol of the U.S., said: "We've had so much division and so much polarization over the last many decades, but certainly over the last few years, that to be able to bring the country together to celebrate America's 250th birthday through patriotism, shared values and a renewed sense of civic pride, to be able to do that in the center of the country, is incredibly important." What Happens Next Officials have not yet confirmed a date for the proposed UFC fight or provided logistic details.

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Love Island USA came back from its Wednesday hiatus with a bang last night as five islanders were sent packing in a shock twist. Ariana Madix came into the villa to reveal that the public had been voting for their favorite contestants, and the six with the fewest votes were therefore vulnerable. The decision of who stayed and who went was not in the hands of the public, however, as Madix had the islanders stand behind the person they'd like to save, and only one could survive.
