Customs foils four drug smuggling attempts, seizes drugs worth RM2.6mil

SHAH ALAM: The Customs Department foiled four drug smuggling attempts and seized 22,348g drugs worth RM2.61 million from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Pos Malaysia Mail and Courier Centre in April.
Selangor Customs director Tun Norlela Azumi Ramli said the first seizure involved an export courier box containing 2,609g of cannabis worth RM193,943 on April 18, while the second seizure occurred when Selangor Customs inspected two courier boxes on April 28 containing 8,935g of cannabis flowers worth RM905,618.
The third seizure occurred on April 29, with 7,344g of cannabis flowers worth RM719,712 seized and the fourth seizure involved 4,000g of methamphetamine worth RM800,000 found in two courier boxes on the same day.
She said the syndicate behind the smuggling also made false declarations about the courier boxes.
The seized drugs have been taken to the North Port Customs Office for further investigation and the cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"We received a report from a 43-year-old man at 9.20pm on Thursday (July 24) regarding the post. ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the case would be investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A doctor pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to cheating the Social Security Organisation (Socso) by allegedly forging a domestic worker registration form three years ago. Dr Winnie Ong Beng Cheen, 44, entered her plea after the charge under Section 417 of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit. The prosecution accused her of deceiving Socso into accepting a falsified form signed by Cheah Chyuan Yong, leading to the registration of Indonesian domestic worker Nurhayati Hasan. The alleged deception caused Socso and Cheah to be misled into monthly contributions of RM20.60. The offence reportedly occurred on Nov 21, 2022, at a residence in Taman Saujana Permai, Bukit Mertajam. Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah granted bail at RM5,000 with one surety and scheduled the next mention for Sept 4. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari prosecuted, while lawyer Chiang Kian Hong represented Dr Ong, a single mother of four children aged 10 to 17. - Bernama

IPOH: Police have launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly containing defamatory and false claims involving Raja Di-Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah. Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the video was uploaded by the TikTok account holder 'The King Xtra The Star' and was found to have tarnished the good name of Raja Di-Hilir of Perak. He said that following the circulation of the video, a police report was lodged by a 43-year-old local man on July 24. 'Initial investigations found that no coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place at any palace in Perak on Aug 7, as claimed in the video. 'Furthermore, the claim regarding the distribution of RM800 in incentives to the Perakians is also false,' he said in a statement today. Abang Zainal Abidin said the case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities. 'The public is also advised against making any speculations that could disrupt investigations or create public anxiety,' he added. - Bernama
