2026 Tesla Model Y Performance breaks cover

2026 Tesla Model Y Performance breaks cover

7NEWSa day ago

Tesla's overhauled performance SUV has been spied testing, completely undisguised, in the Swiss Alps.
The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance has been revealed in a pair of short clips – captured with another Tesla – that were submitted to German-language YouTube channel Nextmove.
The updated flagship mid-size electric SUV is expected to be revealed later this year.
Given the lack of camouflage and the bold colour – which appears orange in the footage but could be Ultra Red – this particular example could be being filmed or photographed for promotional material.

The footage of the front-end is too grainy to make much out, apart from what appears to be a more aggressive bumper, but the clearer view of the rear-end shows what appears to be a sportier bumper treatment and a black lip spoiler.
The Model Y Performance also appears to be riding on new wheels, which may measure 21 inches.
Other changes could mirror those made to the Model 3 Performance sedan with its substantial 2024 update, including upgraded brakes and the addition of adaptive suspension.
The Model 3 Performance also gained ventilated front sports seats, metal pedals, and carbon-fibre trim.
However, Chinese-built examples like those sold here received a 15kW cut in power – to 343kW – and a reduction in electric driving range on the WLTP cycle from 547km to 528km. Nevertheless, the Model 3 Performance's claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time was reduced by 0.2 seconds to just 3.1 seconds.
The updated Model Y currently uses a 79kWh battery in Long Range guise, making it good for 551km of WLTP range – an improvement of 18km on the pre-update model, which offered 533km of range.
The updated Model Y range featured a substantial visual update externally with new front- and rear-end styling, plus a refreshed interior featuring an 8.0-inch rear passenger screen, ambient lighting, and screen-based gear selection.
More changes were made under the skin, too.
The suspension was retuned for greater comfort, the steering was retuned for greater responsiveness, and redesigned body castings are claimed to reduce the number of parts and the amount of road noise.
The updated Performance isn't the only fresh Model Y variant on the radar.
Also expected to join the existing Model Y lineup is a new seven-seat variant.

Donald Trump threatens Elon Musk with DOGE review, says X owner would've needed to ‘head home to South Africa'

The bitter breakup between US President Donald Trump and X owner Elon Musk appears to be worsening. Mr Trump has threatened Mr Musk, the former DOGE head, with a DOGE review, lashing out at the billionaire over his objections to the 'Big Beautiful Bill'. The bill, which Mr Musk says would allow 'debt slavery', would also see the billionaire Tesla owner lose Government subsidies for electric vehicles. Without those Government funds, Mr Trump says Mr Musk would have had to 'head home to South Africa'. The two have fallen out dramatically since the honeymoon days of their DOGE efforts in the White House when Mr Trump retook office. However, Mr Trump's Big Beautiful Bill has caused more arguments between the two. Mr Musk had warned he would work to have supporters of Mr Trump's bill voted out, promising to throw his social media and financial might behind his plan. However, Mr Trump was having none of it. Taking to Truth Social on Monday night, Mr Trump wrote: 'Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate.' 'It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. 'Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one. Mr Trump has previously said he was not worried about conflicts of interest with Mr Musk and his companies, which include Tesla, SpaceX and X, the social media platform, saying he would do what was needed to 'Make America Great Again'. Suggesting that Mr Musk should be appreciative of what he has received from the US Government, Mr Trump said that without subsidies, Mr Musk would have had to pack up shop and return to South Africa, where he grew up. 'Elon may get more subsidies than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,' Mr Trump wrote. 'No more rocket launches, satellites, or electric car production, and our country would save a FORTUNE. 'Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!'

MG's first ute to get shorter warranty

MG Motor Australia has announced shorter warranty periods for its upcoming MG U9 dual-cab ute compared to its passenger car lineup, which is backed by one of the longest new-vehicle warranties in Australia – but owners must now complete scheduled services at MG dealers to receive a full 10-year warranty. The U9 was confirmed for the local MG lineup earlier this year and is due in local showrooms by the end of 2025, but while key details have emerged, pricing and equipment levels are yet to be officially announced. One thing MG has confirmed is the warranty period for its new Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max fighter. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert MG is one of three auto brands that offer a conditional 10-year warranty in Australia, the others being Mitsubishi and Nissan. MG's 10-year/250,000km extended warranty (in addition to its seven-year/unlimited-km standard warranty) applies to private buyers of all models (including hybrid and electric vehicles), while a seven-year/160,000km applies to fleet and business customers. In contrast, Nissan's 10-year/300,000km warranty and Mitsubishi a 10-year/200,000km warranty applies to all buyers but is conditional on servicing at each Japanese brands' authorised dealerships – if not the warranty is five years (or unlimited-km for Nissan and 100,000km for Mitsubishi. Now, however, MG has announced the U9 dual-cab warranty will be limited to five years and 160,000km for commercial buyers, while private buyers will be offered a five-year/unlimited-km warranty, extendable to seven years and 200,000km if they service exclusively with MG dealers. The MG U9 is twinned with the upcoming LDV Terron 9 dual-cab (both utes share the same underpinnings, powertrains and key equipment) because MG and LDV are both part of Chinese auto giant SAIC Supplied Credit: CarExpert The Terron 9 arrives in Australian dealers this month with a seven-year/200,000km warranty and, unlike the U9, there's no requirement to service the vehicle at an LDV dealership to receive the full seven-year waranty. Ford's Ranger – Australia's best-selling vehicle for the past two years as well as being the nation's most popular dual-cab ute – is backed by a five-year/unlimited-km warranty, the same as the brand's passenger vehicles. Its HiLux arch-rival also comes with the same five-year/unlimited-km warranty as Toyota passenger vehicles. However, both fall short of the conditional 10-year warranties offered by competitors including the Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton, and the seven-year warranties offered by LDV, the GWM Cannon, JAC T9 and upcoming Kia Tasman – and now private buyers of the U9 if they service with MG. MG announced its 10-year extended warranty on August 1, 2024, and its requirement for in-house scheduled servicing comes into effect for vehicles sold from today (July 1, 2025). For both its standard and extended warranties, MG requires servicing to be completed within 30 days and 2000km of a vehicle's scheduled service intervals. MORE: Everything MG
