Addressing the media on Saturday, he said that at present, the APK files on social media, Telegram, and WhatsApp are like mobile control in the hands of cybercriminals and vigilance is the main tool to prevent them. 'If you are cheated by fraudsters, the first duty is to immediately complain to the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 or the cybercrime website,' he urged.
He informed that 15 complaints have been received in just a week across the district, especially in the wake of new methods being used by cybercrime criminals such as investment fraud, loan fraud, UPI fraud, APK files, fake websites, stock market fraud, etc.
Giving an example of the method used by cybercrime criminals, he said that investment rods typically show more money on their own websites than they have invested.
'In the limits Of Adilabad 1-Town police station, a person was sent a link through Telegram telling the victim that he could earn money by doing business and investment through WhatsApp, and he was told that he should give ratings to hotels, believing that the victim paid about Rs 40,000 through UPI payment,' he said.
Similarly, a person from Jainath Mandal, who had received a loan through Mudra Finance, made a video call and informed the victim to pay some money in advance, and about Rs 22,150 was stolen from him.

103 days under ‘digital arrest': Cybercriminals made Gujarat doctor sell house, break FD, take loan to pay Rs 19.24 crore
A doctor in Gujarat's Gandhinagar was allegedly placed under 103 days of 'digital arrest' and forced to sell her properties, take loan against gold to pay the accused over Rs 19.24 crore. The cyber criminals had placed her under alleged 'digital arrest' between March and June this year. While one of the accused allegedly identified herself as Jyoti Vishwanath from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), another identified himself as Police Sub-Inspector Mohan Singh, a third identified himself as Public Prosecutor Deepak Saini, a fourth as Public Prosecutor Venkateswara, and the fifth as as Notary Officer Pawan Kumar. The victim was called from different numbers. 'The accused made phone calls, WhatsApp video calls, and sent messages on the victim's WhatsApp. They allegedly told the victim that they would block her mobile numbers as 'offensive' messages were being sent to people from her numbers. They also allegedly threatened the doctor, who is the complainant in the case, saying that a case would be filed against her,' said a statement from SP Dharmendra Sharma. The accused obtained details of the victim's Aadhaar card and allegedly claimed that she was found involved in money laundering. Later, they even told her that a case of money laundering had been registered against her. The accused also sent a fake letter in which the complainant had been named as an accused in a case for alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) as well as the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). They also warned the victim against talking to anyone about this matter. A case was registered in the matter in July. A statement from the State Cybercrime Cell of the CID on Monday said that an investigation has been launched. As per the State Cyber Crime Cell statement, the accused persons kept the victim under 'digital arrest' for 103 days, from March 15 to June 26 and she was told that a man in plain clothes was keeping an eye on her and if she wanted to get a relief, she would have to provide information about all her properties. 'After the complainant provided the information about the properties, the accused persons made her withdraw her Fixed Deposit (FD), sell the gold in her house and further made her take a loan on the gold in her bank locker. They made her sell her house and shares in her stock market portfolio as well, and made her transfer a total amount of Rs 19,24,41,541 to different bank accounts on a fake receipt of 'Financial Supervisionary Freezing Certificate' for the same, and falsely promised that the money would be returned to her after investigation.'

Minister falls prey to Rs 25L land fraud, files FIR
Bhubaneswar: Odisha cabinet minister Krushna Chandra Patra has fallen prey to an alleged land fraud, leading to the registration of a cheating case against a property dealer in Dhenkanal district. According to an FIR filed by Patra at Town police station in Dhenkanal on Saturday, he had transferred Rs 25 lakh to Niranjan Satpathy in 2021 to purchase a plot of land in Banasingh area of Dhenkanal district. Satpathy, however, neither transferred the property nor returned the money to Patra. "Based on my complaint, police are investigating the case. The incident occurred in 2021 when I was not an MLA. I was then working as a director in a company and had planned to purchase land. I gave the money to Satpathy, but he reneged on the land deal," the food supplies & consumer welfare minister said on Monday. The complaint read that Satpathy contacted Patra through an intermediary in 2021, offering land at an attractive price. Satpathy presented land documents and claimed the property belonged to someone who was eager to sell, subsequently collecting Rs 25 lakh from Patra. The minister had sent a legal notice to Satpathy seeking repayment, but to no avail. "Following repeated demands, Satpathy made an undertaking to pay the amount by Nov 30, 2024, but he retracted. Though he promised to refund the entire money by the end of Jan, he failed again," Patra stated in the FIR. Further verification by Patra revealed that Satpathy neither possessed land nor had any arrangements with landowners, indicating his intention to deceive. "He has failed to return my money. This act has caused me financial distress and mental grief. By taking advantage of my simplicity, he cheated me. I request that immediate action be taken against him," the FIR copy read. Dhenkanal town police inspector Prabhat Sahoo said they are verifying the minister's allegation. "We have issued summons to the suspect to face interrogation. Investigation is continuing," Sahoo said.

Two ‘electrocuted' to death, 5 injured in Barabanki temple
Two devotees, including a minor, were electrocuted to death while five others were injured due to electric shock at a temple in the Haidergarh area of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district on Monday, the district administration said. When the injured were being rushed to hospital, the rumour of electrocution caused a stampede-like situation with people running out of the temple, officials said. The deceased were identified as Ramesh Kumar, 28, and Prashant Kumar, 17. The incident occurred at the Awsaneshwar temple when a wire broke off and fell on the temple's tin shed, under which a crowd of devotees had assembled to offer 'jal abhishek' (offering water and milk to Shivlinga) at 2.30 am, the administration said in a statement. The wire, which was used for lighting inside the temple, broke off after a group of monkeys jumped on it, the officials said. Barabanki District Magistrate (DM) Shashank Tripathi told The Indian Express, 'The autopsy confirmed that the two deaths were caused due to electrocution. The cremation of the two victims was held in the afternoon at their villages.' 'Both Ramesh Kumar and Prashant Kumar belonged to the Haidergarh area of the district. The Chief Minister has announced Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of both the deceased,' Tripathi added. Tripathi said a spot verification was done and there was no need for an investigation since there was no negligence behind the incident. 'This is a Shiva temple and devotees from nearby areas had started gathering since night for the 'jal abhishek'. The queue of the devotees was moving in and out of the temple when monkeys suddenly started jumping on the tin shed while hanging on the wires. A wire fell on the shed and two of the visitors came in contact with the shed. Five others close to them also suffered electric shocks,' Tripathi said. DM Tripathi said the two electrocuted were declared dead at the hospital while five others were discharged after the treatment. 'There was no law and order problem after the incident and devotees have been visiting the temple throughout the day since early morning,' he added. The Awasaneshwar is another prominent temple in Barabanki after Lodheshwar temple of Lord Shiva where kanwariyas offer 'sacred water' brought from nearby districts. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event, DGP Rajeev Krishna said senior officials, including the zonal and range-level officers, visited the spot. 'Two people unfortunately died in the incident, which was caused due to electrocution and not because of any stampede. Almost all of the injured have been discharged from hospital after treatment. Some are under observation,' he said. Expressing 'deep sorrow' over the loss of lives, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his condolences to the bereaved families. 'He (CM) has directed the district administration officials to expedite the proper treatment of the injured and relief operations,' Adityanath's office posted on X in Hindi. Meanwhile, the Opposition parties demanded compensation for the victims. The Samajwadi Party posted on X, 'The government should give a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of the deceased devotees, ensure proper treatment and compensation for those injured and disclose the correct number of deaths.' The UP Congress described the incident as 'extremely tragic'. 'The news of the death of two devotees due to an electric shock and several others being injured is distressing. We express our deep condolences to the grieving families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,' it posted on X. 'This incident points to serious deficiencies in the arrangements. Robust security and crowd management measures are extremely necessary at religious sites. We demand that the government provide appropriate compensation and all possible assistance to the affected families,' the Congress state unit said. — PTI
