BDK Bahrain Honors 19 Organizations for Contributions to Blood Donation
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the Blood Donors Kerala (BDK) Bahrain Chapter honored 19 organizations that collaborated with them in organizing blood donation camps.
The organizations felicitated were: ICRF, All Kerala Drivers Freeakers, Beats of Bahrain, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Kayamkulam Pravasi Koottayma, World Malayalee Federation, Edappalayam Bahrain Chapter, Voice of Trivandrum, Science of Spirituality, Pavizha Dweepile Ponnanikkar, Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Sachin Cricket Club, KIMS Hospital, Gudaibiya Koottam, OICC Bahrain, Bahrain Malayalees Pravasi Forum, Malabar Adukkala, Asri Labour Union, and Palakkad Pravasi Association.
The event was attended by renowned historical author P. Hareendranath, ICRF Chairman Adv. V. K. Thomas, BDK Bahrain Patron Dr. P. V. Cherian, KIMS Hospital Bahrain Sales Manager Pyari Lal, Middle East Hospital Ayurveda Doctor Dr. Athulya Unnikrishnan, along with BDK Bahrain Chapter office bearers and executive committee members.

TDT | Manama Appointments now must be booked online A mandatory online registration system has been introduced for this year's Imam Hussain (PBUH) Blood Donation Campaign, marking a digital transformation in one of Bahrain's most enduring grassroots health initiatives. The 27th edition of the campaign, scheduled for the 8th and 9th of Muharram, will take place at the Al Hilal Medical Center in Manama. Organisers have announced that pre-registration on the official campaign website is now required to book a donation appointment, with each participant needing to provide personal details, including a copy of their smart card. Appointment bookings open on Wednesday, the 6th of Muharram. Tech-enabled service Dr Fadel Jassim Al Nasheet, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, said the adoption of online booking as a basic requirement reflects the campaign's evolving scale. 'This year, we are keen to develop the organisational aspects in line with the increasing volume of participation annually, and to contribute to the comfort and safety of donors, especially through the electronic appointment system, which has proven its efficiency,' he said. Held under the slogan 'Blood in Your Name', the campaign is run in partnership with Al Hilal Healthcare Group. While the platform ensures smoother logistics, its mission remains grounded in the spirit of sacrifice and compassion inspired by Imam Hussain (PBUH). Civic tradition Mr Hamid Rahma, Chairman of Al Naeem Charitable Society, described the effort as a reflection of faith-driven altruism. 'We are proud that this campaign is an extension of Imam Hussein's (PBUH) principles of giving without expecting anything in return. It is a national community initiative that represents a pillar in supporting the Central Blood Bank,' he said. The drive's success also rests on its longstanding partnerships with the Ministry of Health and the wider civil society, reinforcing its position as a key contributor to Bahrain's public health ecosystem. Since its inception on 9 Muharram 1421 AH, the initiative has collected a total of 16,526 blood bags, making it one of the Kingdom's largest and most consistent voluntary health campaigns. The committee has urged prospective donors to register early, given the limited number of slots available. Bahrain Joins Global Vaccine Push
TDT | Manama Bahrain has joined world leaders in renewing their commitment to global health equity at a high-level summit in Brussels, where over $9 billion in pledges were announced to support Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, from 2026 to 2030. Her Excellency Dr. Jalila bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, Bahrain's Minister of Health, represented the Kingdom at the Global Vaccine Summit under the theme 'Health and Prosperity through Immunization.' The event brought together 55 delegations including heads of state, ministers, and global health leaders. Bridging the gap The summit aimed to secure funding for Gavi's next strategic phase, 'Gavi 6.0,' with a target of $11.9 billion. So far, $9 billion has been pledged, with further commitments expected. These funds will enable the Alliance to immunize 500 million children and avert 8 to 9 million deaths across low- and middle-income countries. Development finance institutions pledged an additional $4.5 billion, while vaccine manufacturers such as GSK, Bharat Biotech, and the Serum Institute of India announced cost reductions expected to save up to $200 million. ‘Thirst-Quenchers' Summer Awareness Campaign set
The Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF) Bahrain is set to launch its 10th annual Summer Awareness campaign, 'Thirst-Quenchers,' tomorrow. The initiative is in alignment with the Ministry of Labour's efforts to promote safe and healthy working conditions during the peak summer months starting mid-June. The primary objective of the campaign is to raise awareness about heat-related health risks and ensure hydration among outdoor workers who are most vulnerable to Bahrain's extreme summer temperatures. Volunteers will distribute bottled water, laban, juice, and fresh fruits directly to workers at various worksites across the Kingdom. Marking a decade of impactful outreach, the Thirst-Quenchers campaign has consistently conducted weekly visits to different worksites over a 12-week period each summer. This year's program continues with strong backing from key authorities, including the Ministries of Labour and Interior.
