Invest in African Energy 2026 Forum Confirmed for May 11–12 in Paris

Zawya29-04-2025
Energy Capital&Power (ECP) (www.EnergyCapitalPower.com) is pleased to announce that the fourth edition of the Invest in African Energy (IAE) Forum will return to Paris on May 11–12, 2026, with a sharpened focus on frontier exploration, early-stage project development and upstream investment opportunities. Building on three highly successful editions, IAE continues to serve as the premier platform for global explorers, investors and African energy leaders to connect, collaborate and catalyze the next wave of discoveries.
Held in Europe's leading financial and diplomatic center, IAE 2026 will convene energy ministers, national oil companies, utilities, regulators and global investors for two days of strategic dialogue and high-level engagement. This edition will introduce an enhanced focus on the exploration community and its broader ecosystem – from geologists and service companies, to governments and capital providers. With over 150 oil and gas blocks available for bidding across more than 10 African markets in 2025, the continent is experiencing an exploration resurgence, presenting opportunities in both mature and frontier regions. IAE will serve as the premier platform for accessing these opportunities, exploring the latest data rooms, showcasing seismic and subsurface innovation and fostering early-stage collaboration among IOCs and NOCs.
Several high-impact licensing rounds are already lined up for 2026, signaling new momentum across Africa's exploration landscape. Equatorial Guinea has relaunched its open-door licensing process, paving the way for a major licensing round by late 2025 or early 2026. Angola is planning to repeat its multi-year licensing round for oil and gas acreage starting in 2026, while Namibia is lining up new offshore licensing opportunities from 2025 that are expected to continue into the following year. Uganda also plans to issue new exploration licenses in the 2025/2026 fiscal year. In addition, several licensing rounds launched in 2025 will carry over into 2026, offering continued momentum and opportunity for exploration-focused stakeholders.
More than just a development-focused event, IAE 2026 is setting the stage for the next era of African oil and gas exploration. With operators and developers expected to invest $43 billion in Africa's oil and gas sector in 2025 — and capital expenditure projected to reach a decade-high of $54 billion by 2030 — Africa's role in the global energy landscape is only set to grow. IAE responds directly to this momentum, serving as a launchpad for cross-border investment, strategic partnerships and early-stage project financing. The forum is purpose-built to engage geologists, upstream strategists, service providers and capital partners looking to unlock the continent's vast untapped hydrocarbon potential.
'IAE has become the definitive meeting point for Africa's energy stakeholders and global capital markets. We're especially focused on amplifying exploration in 2026 – shining a spotlight on frontier plays, licensing opportunities and early-stage assets ready for partnerships. With preparations underway, we are committed to sustaining this platform's growth and delivering another high-impact edition in 2026,' said Sandra Jeque, Events&Project Director at ECP.
In previous editions, the forum has welcomed official delegations from over 20 African countries, hosted exclusive ministerial panels and investor roundtables, and featured hundreds of B2B meetings that have laid the foundation for tangible, cross-border cooperation. By spotlighting Africa's exploration resurgence — from untapped basins and high-impact drilling campaigns to recent regulatory shifts — the forum will offer clear value to IOCs evaluating global priorities, while outlining what the exploration landscape looks like and what investors need to know to engage effectively.
More information on the 2026 program, speaker lineup and sponsorship opportunities will be announced in the coming months.

Wealth Flight Intensifies: UK to Lose 16,500 Millionaires

A record net outflow of 16,500 high-net-worth individuals is set to leave the UK in 2025, marking the largest wealth exodus recorded globally. This trend, stemming from major shifts in tax policy and visa regulations, signals a turning point in the UK's appeal to the global rich. High earners are relocating in large numbers in response to the scrapping of the non-domicile status in favour of a residency-based taxation regime. Those who have lived in the UK for more than four years now face UK income tax, capital gains tax and a punitive 40% inheritance tax on their worldwide assets. Earlier measures, including the termination of the Tier 1 Investor Visa in February 2022, compounded the impact. Tax advisers report that up to 29% of very high-net-worth individuals are now considering changing their tax domicile. The estimated £66 billion of investable assets expected to leave this year underscores the financial scale involved. ADVERTISEMENT Popular destinations include the UAE, which is projected to attract a net 9,800 millionaires, followed by the US, Italy, Switzerland, and Portugal and Greece. The contrast highlights a shift in global wealth flows, with low-tax jurisdictions offering stability and investment-friendly environments. The departure is not limited to soured perception. Over the past year, more than 4,400 UK-based company directors—mainly in finance, insurance and property—have relinquished their UK roles, with April seeing a 75% rise on the previous year. Prominent figures such as steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, investor Max Gottschalk, promoter Eddie Hearn and heiress Anne Beaufour are among those affected. Chancellor Rachel Reeves is reported to be reassessing aspects of the inheritance tax on global assets to slow the outflow. The Treasury has expressed intent to ensure international competitiveness while funding public services. Analysts warn that the loss of wealthy taxpayers will not just drain capital; it will affect consumer spending, philanthropy, innovation and jobs. FXGuard co‑founder Trevor Williams notes the UK is the only G10 country facing negative millionaire growth since 2014. Financial firms highlight that each non-dom contributes an estimated £400,000 annually to the economy. Survey data from Oxford Economics indicates up to 60% of non‑dom clients may depart within two years. The Office for Budget Responsibility projects a 12–25% exit rate, though some government estimates suggest a lower 1,000 non‑domils may leave. Globally, this shift appears part of a broader migration pattern. Europe's wealthy are bypassing traditional hubs—France, Spain, Germany—while countries like Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Greece attract them. Asia and the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Singapore, along with Caribbean nations and African beach havens, are emerging as wealth magnets. The phenomenon dubbed 'Wexit' marks a strategic reassessment of where opportunity resides. UK wealth managers and executives argue that while tax reform is vital, excessive burden risks eroding the UK's status as a destination for global capital. Industry watchers caution that unless the UK recalibrates its tax policy balance—particularly inheritance and global asset taxation—it may struggle to compete with jurisdictions that treat capital as a partner rather than prey.

FMDQ Group and FAR to launch daily broadcast of live Africa financial news

FMDQ Group and Frontier Africa Reports commit to promote greater visibility of African markets, its companies, investments, finance, business and the economies. FMDQ Group, Africa's first vertically integrated financial market infrastructure group, has formalised a cooperation agreement with Frontier Africa Reports (FAR) to advance education and awareness around African financial markets. The two organisations signed off on the partnership, marking the next stage of a six-year relationship aimed at delivering comprehensive financial and business news across the continent. Under the agreement, FAR will produce and broadcast pan-African market coverage and related programming live from FMDQ Group's in-house studio facilities in Victoria Island, Lagos. This collaboration is designed to support informed engagement with Africa's capital markets, spanning equities, debt, currencies, derivatives, venture capital, commodities, and more. Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Kaodi Ugoji, Group Chief Operating Officer of FMDQ Group, emphasised the company's confidence in the experience and professionalism of the FAR team, led by CEO Boason Omofaye, a veteran financial news journalist. Ugoji noted that FAR's use of the broadcast facilities would deepen investor knowledge, increase public awareness, and create a dynamic platform for issuers, trading firms, and other market participants. Boason Omofaye, Chief Executive Officer of Pure Language Communications Limited—the operator of Frontier Africa Reports—highlighted that the partnership provides a strong foundation for delivering extensive live audio and video programming, including market news, interviews, and analysis. He stressed that the content will strive to cover every African economy, market, and institution, aligning with the objectives of the African Exchange Linkage Project (AELP). This initiative, led by the African Securities Exchanges Association and supported by the African Development Bank, aims to integrate markets across the continent. Frontier Africa Reports plans to launch its first live market-focused broadcasts from the FMDQ studios in mid-July, streaming via its YouTube channel, website, and social media platforms. Additional programming, including the Frontier Africa Radio podcasts, is scheduled to follow. Over the past two years, FMDQ Group and FAR have invested in upgrading and retooling the studio facilities to support this ambitious broadcasting initiative.
