Cowboys Stock Up With Five On The Rise at Minicamp
FRISCO - "How do they look?''
It's the No. 1 question we get after being granted access to Dallas Cowboys practices. So ... based on early work here at The Star in mandatory minicamp, let's answer the question with "Cowboys Stock Up With Five On The Rise at Minicamp'' ... while spending more time on the lesser lights than the superstars ....
Let's dive into three big winners from practice No. 1 based on the observations from several Cowboys insiders.
1 - TE Brevyn Spann-Ford - The former UDFA is definitely the No. 2 tight end ... and is getting work with the 1's.
He came out of college at Minnesota with a good run-blocking reputation.
He's already way more than that.
Jake Ferguson - who caught a Dak Prescott TD in team work - is the top dog. But two-tight-end sets? Spann-Ford looks like your guy.
2 - QB Joe Milton - Athletic? No doubt. Accurate as a thrower? That's been the case this week, yes.
This is Dak Prescott's show (and he's been good and looking healthy this week, too). But the cheap trade for the promising prospect "Bazooka Joe'' is off to a tremendous start.

3 - LB Jack Sanborn - Our old pal Mike Zimmer had his guy in Eric Kendricks. New defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has his in Sanborn, who is surprisingly able to drop into coverage and looks athletic doing so.
ESPN notes that Marist Liufau recorded a pair of Wednesday QB pressures during indoor work at Ford Center, by the way.
And ...
Micah Parsons did do some on-field work on Tuesday after dealing with earlier back tightness, and when it comes to the front seven, he's obviously the top story.
But he can't do it alone. Sanborn looks like a helper.
4 - CB Israel Mukuamu - Trade get Kaiir Elam has been really steady at one corner. Daron Bland has moved around, with some work in the slot.
That's freed Mukuamu to move from the slot ("Big Safety'' at an eye-popping 6-4?) to get some starting reps at outside cornerback. ... where he's gone against George Pickens ... and survived.
5 - WR Jonathan Mingo - Ah, "The Mingo Package.'' Much talked-about but rarely seen. Still, we keep thinking about the one deep ball he caught, in double-coverage, using his big frame to "out-athlete'' the defense.
It's in there ... somewhere.

Detroit battling rivals for All-Star who could shift their playoff push
Detroit battling rivals for All-Star who could shift their playoff push originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tigers know they need bullpen help. That's likely a given before the trade deadline. But if there's a bat out there who fits what this team needs it might just be Eugenio Suarez. Advertisement And Detroit is going to have to fight for him. According to ESPN's David Schoenfield, the Tigers are one of several contenders eyeing a third base upgrade. The Yankees, Cubs and Reds are also in the mix, but Schoenfield suggests the Tigers and Mariners might have the prospect depth to get a deal done. That matters because Suarez won't come cheap. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio SuárezMatt Kartozian-Imagn Images It's a reunion that makes too much sense. Detroit originally signed Suarez out of Venezuela back in 2008. He debuted with the Tigers six years later, only to be traded to Cincinnati in 2014. Now 33, he's quietly putting together one of the best seasons of his career: 26 home runs, 69 RBIs, a .254 average, and a steady glove at third. Advertisement Plug him into this Tigers lineup and the upside's obvious. Suarez hitting between lefties Kerry Carpenter, once he gets healthy, and Riley Greene gives Detroit a balanced middle of the order. It also lets Zach McKinstry slide back into the utility role where he's most valuable—and protects the team against the possible regression of McKinstry, Javier Baez, Gleyber Torres, and Spencer Torkelson. Of course, there's real competition for Suarez. The Mariners, another of Suarez's old teams, need third base help, too. A reunion would correct what many in Seattle still consider a mistake. But if the Tigers want to stay in the mix and maximize this window, Suarez may be the rare deadline move that shifts the Motor City Tigers into high gear. Advertisement . It's going to take a bold move to land him. Good thing the Tigers have the prospect capital and the history to pull it off. The New York Yankees Record Against the AL East is WHAT?!
The New York Yankees Record Against the AL East is WHAT?! originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Much has been made of the New York Yankees' recent struggles. Every team has a tough stretch or some individual players that make a bad play to cost them a couple games. This Yankees stat, however, made me look at this team completely differently. Advertisement Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News noted in a recent piece that the Yankees are only 10-15 against their own division on the whole season. The Baltimore Orioles have been dead last practically since Opening Day and not competitive. Boston has had a losing record all year and shipped their best player out of town, Toronto has only played better ball over the last few weeks and Tampa doesn't even play in their own stadium. New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone (17)© David Butler II-Imagn Images That is a division that the powerhouse, reigning AL champs, $288 million team should be stepping on the throat of. And they are 10-15, even with Aaron Judge having another all-time great hitting season. Advertisement Tonight will be the finale of the Blue Jays series, then another matchup with them starting July 21st will be the next time the Yankees can make any type of improvements on their record within the division. How can they make any real changes that would impact this season? These are the teams they have to beat the most if they want to be a top seed in the postseason, or to even make it, and they have not been able to do it with their current approach. Making a trade ahead of the deadline is the simplest change, but is bringing in an extra arm or two going to fix the daily "WTF" plays? Will the other teams in the division spend so much time studying the new acquisitions, the current Yankees can perform better? I do not see it playing out like that. If a strategic or an overall attitude change happens, we won't see it right away, but the results on the field against these teams would be loud and obvious. Jasson Dominguez hits historic Yankees milestone
Jasson Dominguez hits historic Yankees milestone originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jasson Domínguez wasted no time reminding New York Yankees fans just how electric his bat can be. The 22-year-old center fielder launched a leadoff home run Friday afternoon at Citi Field, then came back in the fifth to crush a go-ahead two-run shot—his second career multi-homer game and first since last September. At 22 years and 147 days old, Domínguez became the youngest player in Yankees history to record a multi-HR game from the leadoff spot, according to the Yankees July 5, 2025 game notes. Advertisement The previous record-holder was a guy named Derek Jeter, who was 23 when he did it in Anaheim in 1997. That wasn't the only bit of franchise royalty Domínguez joined. His leadoff homer made him the sixth-youngest Yankee ever to homer from that spot. The names ahead of him? Mickey Mantle, Mark Koenig, Anthony Volpe, Derek Jeter, and Don Mattingly. No pressure. © John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images Domínguez has underwhelmed compared to the expectations set on The Martian when he was a minor leaguer. Slowly, however, he is showing off the tools -- power and speed -- that made the Yankees give him a record $5.1 million signing bonus when he was 16 years old. Advertisement Over his last 22 games, he's slashing .356/.392/.521 with 11 runs, 4 doubles, a triple, 2 homers, and 6 stolen bases. He's also walked five times and driven in eight. What stands out just as much as the power is his baserunning. Domínguez is 14-for-15 in stolen base attempts this season—tied for the third-best success rate in the American League—and an incredible 20-for-21 (95.2%) in his young career. His speed, power, and growing plate discipline are flashing at the right time. The Yankees may have plenty of questions as the deadline approaches, but Dominguez is giving them some stability in the lineup they needed.
