Man jailed for throwing glass bottle at Celtic goalkeeper during Old Firm match
Andrew Watt, 34, launched the missile at the Finnish international at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2025.
Watt initially threw a cigarette at Mr Sinisalo after Celtic scored their equaliser through striker Adam Idah.
He then picked up a half bottle of Buckfast and hurled it at the goalkeeper who celebrated the goal in front of Rangers fans.
The bottle was later handed to police officers by a Rangers substitute.
Watt was identified the following day on CCTV due to his 'distinctive white teeth'.
Watt pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Sinisalo.
Sheriff Mark McGuire told Watt, of Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, that his actions were not of a 'fan' but a 'vicious drunken hooligan.'
The sheriff added: 'Your motive was victim blaming.
'You came to throw a bottle after he celebrated his team scoring an equaliser.
'That is his job – you victim was doing his job – the man was at his work.
'In what possible world could you or anyone else think it is acceptable to throw a bottle at someone at his work?
'Had the bottle hit him, the consequences could have been catastrophic, career ending or worse.
'In a febrile atmosphere in a stadium which holds over 50,000 people, your actions could have sparked a riot.
'It was not just an assault on Mr Sinisalo – what you did could have endangered everyone man, woman and child that afternoon.
'In all the circumstances, to punish you and deter others from acting like you did and to protect the public, I am satisfied there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.'
Watt was also banned from all football matches for a period of six-and-a-half years.
The court heard that after Adam Idah scored, there was a VAR check on the goal to see if it would be allowed.
After a two to three minute stoppage, the referee awarded the equalising goal to Celtic.
Prosecutor Leo McGinn said: 'At that point, Mr Sinisalo turned back to his own goal towards the Rangers fans and pumped his fists.
'This sparked an angry reaction from the Rangers fans behind the goal and a half bottle of Buckfast was thrown in his direction.
'The bottle did not strike him but landed on the field of play.'
The bottle was handed over to police officers by a Rangers substitute but the perpetrator was unknown at the time.
A CCTV investigation was carried out by police the next day which identified Watt as being responsible.
Mr McGinn added: 'He was seen to throw a lit cigarette in Mr Sinisalo's direction which had not been spotted by officers.
'Watt could be identified by his build and distinctive white teeth.'
Watt later handed himself into police officers after he was aware that they were looking for him.
Kevin Corr, defending, told the sentencing that Mr Sinisalo was 'not gloating' before the assault took place.
The lawyer added: 'The stadium was tense at the time while the decision was being awarded.
'My client had been consuming alcohol on the morning off the game and continued drinking during the match.
'It was not a full half bottle of Buckfast as it was in the second half of the match.
'He knows that this is the behaviour of someone in their teens rather than someone in his mid-thirties – there is no attempt to minimise or justify what happened.'
The hearing was told that Watt has 21 previous convictions, which include two football-related matters from 2013 and 2015 – the latter of which saw him jailed for ten months and handed a three-year football ban.

Rangers make Oliver Antman transfer breakthrough with deal timeline emerging
Talks over a move for the Finnish international have been progressing and now a deal could be in sight for Russell Martin Oliver Antman is set to sign for Rangers after the Ibrox club agreed a fee with Go Ahead Eagles. Record Sport understands that an agreement has been reached with the Eredivise outfit for the Finnish wide man, with sources in the Netherlands suggesting that the 23-year-old could become Russell Martin 's latest signing within the next 24 to 48 hours. Talks have taken place over a switch to Ibrox and a breakthrough has been made with the Deventer-based outfit. A fee of around £5million has been reported, and now it's understood that progress has been made with both club and player, easing the way for a move to Govan to happen. Antman won't be eligible for Wednesday night's Champions League second leg showdown with Panathinaikos in Athens even if he signs in time. But he could well be in the squad Martin takes to Fir Park on Saturday as Gers begin their Scottish Premiership campaign with an evening kick-off away to Motherwell. Antman bagged 7 goals and an impressive 17 assists to help fire Go Ahead to Dutch Cup glory last term. Sheffield United had been strongly linked with Antman, along with Belgian outfit and recent Ibrox visitors Club Brugge. But it now looks as if Gers have won the race. Go Ahead Eagles director Jan Willem van Dop insisted Antman, along with Celtic-linked teammate Jakob Breum, wouldn't leave on the cheap. He told Oost: "We think Breum and Antman should be allowed to leave for more than six million," which would seem to be the threshold Rangers have met to get a deal over the line. Former PSV, Barcelona and Dutch international star Ibrahim Affelay predicted that Antman would bank Go Ahead good money. he said: "That Antman is really... I think the treasurer is rubbing his hands with glee. He's going to make a fantastic transfer at the end of the season."

Lennon Miller to Bologna transfer domino that has yet to fall as Celtic told 'truth' about hijack attempt
The Motherwell midfielder is attracting interest from across Europe this summer Bologna are reportedly holding off on a formal bid for Motherwell prospect Lennon Miller as they look to sell on their key stars. The Serie A side and their rivals Udinese are both keen on the £5million-rated teenager - who did not feature in any of the Steelmen's Premier Sports Cup group stage games. Fir Park boss Jens Berthel Askou has admitted he could hand the 18-year-old a first appearance of the season in the Premiership opener against Rangers next Saturday if he remains at the club. And that looks increasingly likely with Gazzetta dello Sport report that Bologna want to offload Dan Ndoye before splurging more cash in the summer market. Napoli and Nottingham Forest are reportedly battling it out for a £43million deal - with the Italian side now pressing pause on an incoming stars as they await a cash injection. That leaves the door open other clubs to snap up the Scotland internatioanal with Udinese and Como among the interested parties - while Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be a fan of Miller. And despite his dad Lee stating that Miller Jr is keen on a move away from the Scottish Premiership, the Hoops have been urged to push for a deal before it's too late. Former Parkhead defender Charlie Mulgrew reckons the Scottish champions could land the wonderkid for a low fee, telling Go Radio: "I'd love to see Celtic sign Lennon Miller. "I think that'd be a brilliant bit of business. Play him in one of those number eight roles, ease him into the season, and there's no doubt, he'd be one of Celtic's top performers this year if they get him in. 'Imagine him in that position, getting loads of the ball, using that wand of a right foot to dictate games. It'd be class to watch. 'And truth be told, it wouldn't even be that expensive to get him out of Motherwell, especially with them needing to sell.'
