Groundbreaking WWE star hails TNA championship as 'best in all of wrestling'
WWE superstar Trick Williams has blasted fans for TNA Wrestling 'outsiders' over him.
The 31-year-old star made history last month by becoming the first ever WWE-contracted wrestler to win the TNA Wrestling World Championship, which he'll defend tonight at Against All Odds.
He'll be taking on Elijah, AKA Elias, after beating TNA's Mike Santana on NXT earlier this week, and Trick exclusively told Metro how he's embracing his hectic schedule and enjoying performing for a new crowd.
'Shoot, that's what I want, you know? I mean, I want to see many people as possible. I don't want to get stuck in just the Performance Center,' he admitted.
'I love the Performance Center. They've been great to me – but shoot, as we can see, they can turn on you any minute. I gave blood, sweat and tears for four years.
'Look at them now, they're cheering for Mike Santana, an outsider. Ain't been here, ain't got his feet wet! So, yeah, I want to go see other people. Orlando's been good to me, but shoot, they change… I'll change up too.'
The two-time NXT Champion, who also has a run with the NXT North American Title to his name, also insisted he isn't simply carrying on the TNA World Championship legacy.
The prestigious title has been held by the likes of Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, LA Knight, Nick Aldis and maybe more over the years, but Trick isn't looking at the past.
'I ain't continuing nothing. I'm starting my own legacy. I mean, you're right – Kurt Angle had the title, LA Knight had the title, Bubba Ray Dudley had the title.
'We can go all day, but the thing is, has it ever been a big of a deal as it is right now? I mean, the TNA Title is literally the best title to have in all of wrestling today.'
On-screen, fans have seen Trick bring hip-hop into his wrestling persona, 'dropping diss tracks' on the likes of former champ Joe Hendry and Santana.
'I just moved into a house, and as I'm moving and packing, I found a journal that I had since sixth grade, of my raps that I was writing way back in the day,' he beamed.
'I'm really doing this on TV now, I'm dropping diss tracks on my opponents. Who would have known that skill, or that passion, something I love so long ago, was gonna be something that I use to humiliate my opponents?'
His next challenger is superstar Elijah (AKA Elias), who has dealt with his rivals in a similar way across WWE and TNA. When it comes to actually getting in the ring, Trick isn't fazed.
'I've known him for a while. He's a strong guy. He's an athlete. He's wise beyond his years. He's swole, he done put on some weight, he looks good,' he said.
'Truth is, there's one Trick Williams. [Elijah] straps on his boots same way I strap on my boots. I'm ready to go to war.'
Trick's been well-prepped for moments like this, under the tutelage of NXT boss and WWE icon Shawn Michaels.
'I've been working for him for four or five years now, and it's just cool to see our relationship actually grow,' he added.
'I get to sit down with him now, and the feeling of him actually trusting me to go out there and do what I'm supposed to do. [But] I don't know if I got all this trust yet.'
Another key figure for Trick has been Booker T, another Hall of Famer who has been vocal behind the scenes – and the commentary desk. More Trending
'He's been a great mentor for me,' he said. 'He verbalises all the support every single week, that's just an extension of who he truly is and how he helps me behind the scenes.'
Now, Trick is repaying that faith by representing WWE with TNA gold around his waist.
'TNA is a magical place,' he admitted. 'I'm able to spread my wings and be exactly who I always wanted to be. Even more so now you've put his gold on me, you really can't tell me nothing! My head is all the way through the building.'

Diogo Jota's family life, from childhood sweetheart wife to three young kids
The footballing world is in mourning after Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother died in a car crash in Spain this morning. Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were both killed in a car accident when their car left the road and burst into flames in the northern province of Zamora. The couple had been in a relationship since 2012, and are childhood sweathearts, having attended the same high school together in Porto. Cardoso was regularly seen in the stands watching Jota player, documenting her travels following him play for both club and country. Jota proposed to Cardoso in July 2022 at a lakeside setting and, less than a fortnight ago, the pair got married in their hometime of Porto. In his last post on social media prior to his death, Jota shared an emotional video from the pair's wedding day, captioning the post: 'A day we will never forget'. In the comments, Jota responded: 'But I'm the lucky one'. Jota and Rute had three children together and three pet beagles. They have a son named Dinis, who was born in 2021, Another son, Duarte, was born in 2023, and a third child, a daughter, was born in 2024. The name of the youngest child has never been revealed. The couple regularly shared pictures of their family online, most recently following Liverpool's Premier League title win in May this year. Jota's brother, Andre Silva, was also a professional footballer and played for Portuguese second division side Penafiel. Silva came through the Porto youth set-up before leaving to join Pacos de Ferreira in 2017, where Jota had played in the previous two seasons. Don't let the Neil Gaiman accusations ruin Netflix's best fantasy show
'We do not choose to be created, nor do we choose how we are made.' In the first season of The Sandman on Netflix, these words are uttered by Lord Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), otherwise known as Dream. In the context of the show, Dream is referring to everyone's lack of agency in their inception. It's essentially a slightly pretentious way of saying 'you can't help where you come from'. Going into season 2, Morpheus's words feel especially apt due to the large shadow cast over the show by its co-creator, Neil Gaiman. The 64-year-old fantasy author, who wrote the comics The Sandman is based on, stands accused of sexual misconduct by eight women. 'I'm far from a perfect person,' he wrote in a statement shared on his website in January. 'But I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video However, following the allegations, which Gaiman vehemently denies, The Sandman's second season has been marred by its association with the once beloved author. Which is where I come into this story. You see, The Sandman is a story that means an awful lot to me, even now following Gaiman's fall from glory. The Sandman, with its philosophical musings on the nature of change, has always tickled my pseudo-intellectual fancy, and as a gloomy pale guy with dark hair with a preference for long coats, I've always felt a certain kinship with Dream. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that I approached the second season of Morpheus's adventures with a strange mixture of excitement and dread. I couldn't wait to see the story I loved again, but also, I was aware the spectre of Gaiman would linger over the show, like a bad dream you can't wake up from. Of course, before we begin, I must mention Gaiman's alleged victims and how important it is that their stories are heard. This, at the end of the day, is a TV show, and their experiences matter far more than any Netflix series. If, after you read their testimony, you decide that the Sandman season 2 isn't for you, then I completely understand. As for me? Do the accusations levelled against Gaiman spoil the series? Thankfully, no, given there's so much more to the series than one man, although they do mar it somewhat. In my opinion, The Sandman season two is every bit as beguiling, bold and brilliant as the first, managing to somehow elevate the source material. But what makes the series so good? Well, there are three elements as far as I'm concerned. The first is the spectacular visuals. The Sandman, by its very nature, deals with the ethereal and the ephemeral. It's testament to the incredible skill and dedication of the show's art departments then, that they make the impossible seem possible without rendering it mundane. Across the series, you'll visit gorgeous locales and realms beyond comprehension, yet they all feel as tangible as your local neighbourhood. Similarly, the various gods, demons, and other ghoulies and goblins aren't uncanny CGI monsters; they feel like living, breathing people you might meet on your commute (although if you've ever met a hobgoblin on your bus to work, we feel sorry for you). A large part of that comes down to the second part of the show I want to praise: the cast. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, in the cast is fantastic, and I can't think of a single performance that took me out of the show. I can't lie that does make reviewing the series a bit tricky as I can't praise everyone involved, but I can say it's those playing the Endless who I found most impressive. Playing the literal embodiment of fundamental forces can't be easy, yet Kirby (formerly known as Kirby Howell-Baptiste) as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as Destruction are simply sensational. If I had to call out anyone for a special prize, though, it would be Esmé Creed-Miles as Dream's younger sister, Delirium. Delirium, by her unpredictable nature, can be a hard character to like, but Esmé makes her the most relatable of the Endless, even giving Tom a run for his money. Speaking of which, Tom is magnificent as Dream, and Morpheus feels less like a character he's actually obligated to play and more like a role he was born to bring to life. Of course, even Tom, with all his prodigious acting talent, would be nothing without a script to read, and it's here that I think Sandman season two is at its strongest. The writing is simply brilliant, it's stripped-back synthesis of all Gaiman's best ideas, with the comic's occasionally ponderous pacing banished to the nether realm of bad TV. I know there has been speculation that The Sandman is ending early due to the allegations against Gaiman, but I promise you, after watching the show, the pacing feels incredibly natural and far better thought out than what we got in the comics. Sadly, though, we must now address the elephant in the room: Gaiman. As much as I tried to dismiss the man from my mind, his fingerprints are all over the show. The show makes effective use of his great ideas, making changes to trim some elements that seem less savoury in light of the allegations against him, yet this is still his story at the end of the day. As such, I felt a queasiness during the show's first story arc, where we learn Dream effectively abused a woman who dared to try and leave him, something made worse by Morpheus looking like an idealised version of the writer. More Trending It's icky and there's some subtext there I didn't quite like. Yet ultimately, I really enjoyed The Sandman season two, and to take this back to the opening quote, Dream can't help who made him. So maybe we shouldn't let the circumstances of his creation rob us of arguably the best fantasy series Netflix has ever made. The Sandman season two is available to stream now on Netflix Got a story? Big Brother star 'lucky to be alive after being left her for dead in terrifying
Big Brother star Charley Uchea has revealed she's 'in agony' after a horrifying crash with a truck. Uchea, who rose to fame on Big Brother season eight in 2007, took to Instagram to share the details of the incident which has left her bed-bound to her 250k followers. Sharing an image of her damaged car, she wrote on her story: 'Look at the damage this truck did just by hitting me then leaves me dead on the side of the road.'
