Court documents show in 2020, Victor Contreras, met a woman on social media and in 2021 the victim told police Contreras repeatedly threatened and forced her to have sex with him. Jurors saw threatening text messages and heard incriminating statements from Contreras. He was found guilty of criminal sexual penetration. Contreras is also facing a federal firearms charge.

Amarillo police seek public's help to ID person after suspicious activity reported
The Amarillo Police Department issued a community advisory Friday about some recently reported suspicious incidents happening in several neighborhoods in the Amarillo area. Police are seeking the public's help regarding suspicious activity that reportedly happened in the late hours of July 31 into the early hours of Aug. 1 between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. APD said after a homeowner discovered their property had been tampered with, residential surveillance cameras in the City View area showed an unidentified man, described as wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, Nike athletic shoes, gloves, and a face mask. The same individual was reported to have been in the Scottsman/Hollywood area, checking vehicle doors and entering unlocked vehicles. Investigations indicate that he also may be responsible for stealing a vehicle in the Greenways/Colonies area on July 29, according to police. "We urge residents in the City View, Scottsman/Hollywood, and Greenways/Colonies areas to review any home surveillance or doorbell camera footage from the specified dates. If you have any video evidence of this individual, please use the QR code provided to submit your video. If you encounter this individual, please contact the Amarillo Police Department immediately. Additional beat checks are in place for these neighborhoods," the advisory said. "Your vigilance and assistance in identifying this person are crucial to keeping our community safe." I-225 north in Aurora partially reopens after fatal crash causes closure
A fatal crash on I-225 in Aurora temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of traffic on Sunday evening. Officers responded to the scene just south of the Alameda Exit around 6 p.m. Authorities said a single vehicle crashed, claiming the life of one person. The Aurora Police Department said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The two left lanes reopened around 6:20 p.m., but APD said the right lane will remain closed for an extended time while they work the scene.

Albuquerqe man pleads guilty to role in attempted armed robbery turned deadly
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with the death of an Albuquerque woman during an attempted robbery, Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced. Joseph Montoya is one of three individuals who were arrested following the death of Brandy McManus at her home near McMahon and Unser in October 2023. APD said one of the suspects shot McManus while the other two fired at a neighbor who confronted them.
