LSU wide receiver Nic Anderson to miss a week after car wreck, per report
Tigers coach Brian Kelly told the newspaper Anderson would miss about a week offseason work, but would return shortly thereafter to LSU's program. The wreck wasn't as bad as the single-car wreck involving quarterback Colin Hurley from January, Kelly said.
'It wasn't quite as bad as Colin Hurley's, which was life-threatening, but enough that he had to get checked in and stayed overnight for observations,' Kelly said Monday at SEC Media Days. 'But he comes out of it really good.'
Hurley has since returned to the team.
Anderson transferred to LSU at the conclusion of the 2024 season, a season in which he barely played after suffering a lower-body injury. OU coach Brent Venables said the injury was to Anderson's quadriceps. ESPN reported the injury to Anderson's hip.
In 2023, as a redshirt freshman, Anderson was OU's second-leading receiver. He caught 38 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. Last year, without Anderson, J.J. Hester led Sooners' wide receivers with just 31 receptions for 315 yards. Deion Burks led the wideouts with three touchdown catches but also missed significant time himself.
'We didn't want to get into a situation where, as you know, the medical issues with him at Oklahoma were real,' Kelly said. 'So, we just wanted to be careful with him.'

Oklahoma Sooners running back room among the best in the nation
There's a lot to like about the Oklahoma Sooners' offense heading into 2025; at least on paper. They have one of the more exciting backfields in the nation after adding John Mateer and Jaydn Ott through the transfer portal. But it goes beyond Ott, who was voted to the All-SEC second team; the Oklahoma running back room is deep. Pro Football Focus college football analyst Max Chadwick believes the Sooners have one of the top 10 running back rooms in the nation going into 2025. It starts with Ott. He had a 1,300-yard season back in 2023 and has the game-breaking ability to create big plays for the Sooners' offense. The running back workload won't be completely on Ott as Oklahoma brings back Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, and Taylor Tatum as well. Barnes had 700 total yards and six touchdowns for the Sooners last season. His effort and energy gave Oklahoma a boost in the second half of the season, leading the way for an offense that was mostly stagnant last year. The Sooners have high expectations for their second-year running backs Xavier Robinson and Taylor Tatum. Both showed flashes of being big-time producers at the collegiate level despite an offensive line that struggled for much of the 2024 season. Then there's true freshman Tory Blaylock, who was a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. He's just a true freshman, but his speed, agility, and balance could force the Sooners to put him on the field. Fall camp is going to provide some interesting competition for the running back hierarchy, but it looks like DeMarco Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of talent to work with. Former LSU baseball pitcher Jacob Mayers agrees to MLB contract following draft selection
Former LSU pitcher Jacob Mayers agreed to terms on a contract with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. The right-hander will receive a bonus of $190,000 after his selection in the 2025 MLB Draft. The Red Sox chose him in the ninth round with the No. 268 overall pick. He was the second Tiger taken by the Red Sox after fellow right-handed pitcher Anything Eyanson, who went in the third round. Mayers came to LSU after two seasons as a starter at Nicholls, where he won multiple freshman pitcher of the year awards and All-Southland Conference honors. As a junior in Baton Rouge, he made 17 relief appearances and finished with a 4.80 ERA along with 26 strikeouts. He saw 2.2 innings through three games in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, but came in big in the Tigers' win vs. Arkansas. The six-foot-five, 220-pounder came to LSU as the No. 17 transfer portal prospect per Baseball America. He hails from Gonzales, LA, and played prep baseball at St. Amant High School.
