Actor Vishal seeks ban on filming public reviews at theatres during first three days of release

The Hindu16-07-2025
Vishal, actor and General Secretary of Nadigar Sangam, on Wednesday (July 16), requested media, theatre owners and exhibitors to prohibit filming of public reviews on theatre premises during the first three days of release. Vishal said this while speaking at the trailer launch of the Tamil film Red Flower.
'On behalf of the Nadigar Sangam, and in the presence of Mr. Kathiresan, Vice President of the Tamil Film Producers Council, I am placing a request to the media and the Exhibitors' Association: henceforth, for the first three days of a film's release, that is 12 shows to be precise, please prohibit recording of audience reviews on theatre premises. Please don't mistake me for this; even if you do, I have to speak about this. The YouTubers are, of course, welcome to ask for reviews from audiences outside the premises of theatres.
Stating that while it's fair for the channels to compete on who gets to put out the reviews first, Vishal said, 'It'd be great if the YouTubers too watch the film inside the theatres, give their reviews first, and then ask the public for their opinions.' The actor added that while film reviews are necessary, 'films also deserve a breathing space for those 12 shows.'
Film reviews have become a major talking point in regional film industries. The trend of shooting public reviews for YouTube, which Vishal has now spoken about, has received quite some backlash from many stakeholders in the Tamil film industry.
Earlier in June, the Madras High Court dismissed a writ petition filed by the Tamil Film Active Producers Association that sought a ban on movie reviews for three days from the date of release. The court held that banning online review of movies for the first three days of their theatrical release would be equivalent to interfering with the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression.
Further, the actor also revealed that his wedding to actor Sai Dhanshika will not take place on his birthday, August 29, as announced previously. 'It'd happen on the first Muhurtham after the inauguration of the Nadigar Sangam building, which is due for completion in two months,' said Vishal.

Shruti Haasan Reveals How She Landed The Role In Rajinikanth's Coolie

Shruti Haasan revealed that she will play Sathyaraj's character Rajasekar's daughter, Preethi. Coolie, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is set to hit theatres on August 14. Among other seasoned actors, Shruti Haasan plays a pivotal role in the film, which is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. In the latest, the actress has revealed how she was cast in this big-budget project and also shared details about her character. How Shruti Haasan Got Cast In Coolie? In a conversation with journalist Prema on YouTube, Shruti Haasan revealed that she will play Sathyaraj's character Rajasekar's daughter, Preethi. As per earlier speculations, she was expected to play Rajinikanth's daughter, but the actress has now clarified her role. Talking about being cast in Coolie, Shruti Haasan recalled, 'Lokesh came to me to talk about the Inimel music video, and we were planning to have a meeting in the RKFI office. The minute he came in, he was like before our meeting, I wanna tell you something. I'm making this movie, and I want you to do this film. Soon, he gave me a one-liner, too. I was like, What is going on… usually you get a call from a manager that a director wants to meet you. So you're prepared." Shruti added that she was quite confused as the conversation started about a music video, and then they were discussing the film. Coolie Release Date Coolie, will release on August 14 and apart from Rajinikanth, Sathyaraj and Shruti Hassan, it will also star Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra and Soubin Shahir. Anirudh composed the music for the film, which marks his fourth consecutive collaboration with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. Girish Gangadharan serves as the cinematographer, while Philomin Raj is the editor. The film has also created buzz since it reunites Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth after nearly 38 years. Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth's father in the 1986 Tamil film Mr Bharath, in which the two last appeared together. Interestingly, Sathyaraj declined offers to appear in several of Rajinikanth's other films, including Enthiran and Sivaji. Coolie's story will revolve around gold smuggling. Interestingly, filmmaker Lokesh Kanakaraj has declared that Coolie will be a stand-alone picture, not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, is also expected to compete with Rajinikanth's film at the box office. 'Democrat-Inspired Scam': Trump Says $100 Million For LA Wildfire Victims ‘Missing'

Last Updated: The FireAid concert that raised $100 million for the devastating January wildfires in California has come under fire after some people complained they had not received benefits. US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on California wildfire relief efforts, calling the star-studded FireAid concert that raised $100 million for the devastating January wildfires in California, Los Angeles, 'another Democrat-inspired scam". This came after FireAid came under fire for how the money was spent after civilians who lost their properties claimed that they did not receive a single penny from the concert, which billed itself as a 'benefit concert for wildfire victims". At least 30-31 people are believed to have been killed, and more than 18,000 houses were destroyed in California after the devastating series of wildfires – fuelled by the powerful Santa Ana winds – spread rapidly through urban and suburban areas. It is estimated to have cost at least $76-130 billion in damages. FireAid Controversy The FireAid event itself, hosted across the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome arenas in Inglewood, was a star-studded event, with performances from the likes of Lady Gaga, No Doubt, John Mayer, Olivia Rodrigo and other A-listers, to raise funds for the victims of the wildfires. Broadcast worldwide across a variety of platforms, from AMC Theatres to YouTube, the concert brought together music lovers from all corners of the globe, joining in solidarity for relief during the devastating LA wildfires. The funds were distributed primarily through grants to nearly 188 non-profit organisations providing emergency relief services such as housing, food, mental health support, and wildfire prevention efforts. However, some people claimed that they received no benefits from the concert. 'I have not seen any benefit from the FireAid money, and I am very involved here and neither have my neighbours," David Howard, who lost two homes in Pacific Palisades, told Fox News. 'The fire aid was for us. So, we figured where is the money? Where is it going?" said another victim, Mark Jones. Last week, the charity said that 'FireAid does not have the capability to make direct payments to individuals and that was never the plan" and that it was partnered with trusted local non-profits, sparking outrage. In response to these claims, Representative Kevin Kiley penned a letter urging the Department of Justice to investigate the matter. However, several recipient organisations said they received funds and publicly defended FireAid. Michael Flood, CEO of the LA Regional Food Bank, told the Los Angeles Times that FireAid was very helpful when demand for food assistance surged by 30% due to the devastation caused by wildfires in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena. 'It was especially high in January through March as so many people were displaced and lost power and water," he added. Although aid groups have praised the efforts, the accusations have reignited political controversy surrounding the state's management of wildfire relief, emergency response, and the transparency of charitable fund distribution. tags : donald trump los angeles wildfires view comments Location : Washington D.C., United States of America (USA) First Published: July 26, 2025, 16:14 IST News world 'Democrat-Inspired Scam': Trump Says $100 Million For LA Wildfire Victims 'Missing' Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Who is Heisenberg? 'Leo' director Lokesh Kanagaraj confirms mystery lyricist is real, not a robot or AI

Tamil music fans have been enjoying hit songs with stylish English lyrics for many years now. But what makes these songs even more exciting and intresting is the mystery behind the person who writes them. This unknown lyricist goes by the name Heisenberg – inspired by the character Walter White from the famous American show 'Breaking Bad'. No one really knows who Heisenberg is, except for director Lokesh Kanagaraj , who claims he has met the person. The buzz began with 'Vikram' and grew with 'Leo' The mystery around Heisenberg began when Lokesh 's 2022 film 'Vikram', starring Kamal Haasan , was released. The songs 'Wasted' and 'Once Upon A Time' featured catchy English lyrics that instantly grabbed fans' attention. Heisenberg returned the following year in 2023 with the film 'Leo', writing four more tracks – 'Bloody Sweet', 'Ordinary Person', 'I'm Scared', and 'Leo Das Entry'. Even though fans were eager to find out who this lyricist was, composer Anirudh Ravichander didn't reveal much. He said he had only spoken to Heisenberg over the phone and confirmed that only Lokesh had met him in person. Lokesh Kanagaraj clears the confusion Recently, during an interview with Galatta Plus, Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed some of the fan theories. He confirmed that Heisenberg is not a robot or AI programme but a real person. He also said that both he and Anirudh know this person, but they are keeping his identity private on purpose. Lokesh clearly stated that neither he nor Anirudh is writing the songs secretly under the name Heisenberg. Lokesh gives fans a clever hint To add to the mystery, Lokesh offered fans a clue. He said that if they watch the 1980 Tamil film 'Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu', they might be able to figure out who Heisenberg is. This sparked a wave of online guesses from fans. 'Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu' starred Kamal Haasan and Sridevi and was directed by K. Balachander. Because of this connection, many fans began to wonder if Kamal Haasan himself might be Heisenberg. Other guesses included director Nelson Dilipkumar and actor-playwright S. Ve. Shekhar. But since Lokesh clearly said neither he nor Anirudh is secretly behind the name, the mystery deepened even more. Tamil cinema has seen mystery artists before This is not the first time Tamil cinema has seen an artist hide their identity. In 2017, director Gautham Menon credited a song composer as 'Mr. X' for the hit track 'Maruvaarthai' in 'Enai Noki Paayum Thota'. It was later revealed to be Darbuka Siva. He said he used a fake name because he didn't want too much attention and wasn't sure how people would react. Heisenberg's hit songs keep coming Despite the mystery, Heisenberg's songs continue to do well. In 2024, he wrote more popular songs like 'All Hail The Tiger' and 'Red Sea' in 'Devara: Part 1' (starring Jr NTR), and 'Hands Up' in Rajinikanth's film 'Vettaiyan'. For now, Heisenberg remains one of Tamil cinema's most mysterious figures. Even without a known face, his strong and stylish lyrics continue to make waves and fans can't stop talking about him.
