Lionel Messi Returns To Major League Soccer With Spectacular Double In Inter Miami Victory

Lionel Messi scored two brilliant goals to lift Inter Miami to a 4-1 victory over Montreal in Miami's return to Major League Soccer action on Saturday in the wake of their elimination from the Club World Cup. Miami were playing their first MLS game in more than a month. They had advanced past the first phase of the Club World Cup but fell 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 last week. Messi made sure there was no lingering let-down for Javier Mascherano's side, who are aiming to improve on their curent sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 32 points from 17 matches. "It is a great night, we took the three points that were very necessary to start thinking about the MLS again," Mascherano said. "It is never easy to reintegrate into the competition after the Club World Cup, and the players have done it perfectly." Messi was a key figure throughout, although it was his miscue that led to the first goal for Montreal. His backpass fell right in front of Montreal's Prince Owusu, who fired a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Oscar Ustari to make it 1-0 after two minutes. Messi more than atoned. In the 33rd minute, Messi found Tadeo Allende outside the area and Allende chipped a shot over Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirios. In the 40th minute Messi conjured his trademark magic, cutting in from the right corner of the box, eluding Fernando Alvarez and curling the ball in at the far post for a goal that gave Miami a 2-1 halftime lead. Telasco Segovia made it 3-1 in the 60th minute with a blast from outside the area that hit the crossbar and bounced into the net. Messi bagged his second goal two minutes later, evading four defenders and finishing an outstanding solo run with a shot into the heart of the goal. Messi now has seven goals in his last four MLS matches, bringing his total to 12 in 14 games. "Leo is happy playing football," Mascherano said. "Every time he is fit, he is going to play. Clearly we have an extra advantage when he plays and we want to use that advantage as much as possible." Miami now face a hectic MLS stretch, with five more matches before the end of the month.

After Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes fastest Youth ODI hundred, Ravi Shastri says ‘First-Class cricket will fast-track' him to India debut

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his record-breaking spree in India's Youth ODI series in England, playing another rampaging knock in a 55-run win over England U-19 on Saturday in Worcester, helping his side clinch the series win with a spell-binding century. Bettering his 31-ball 86 display from the previous outing, Suryavanshi smoked the fastest Youth ODI hundred in only 52 balls, bettering the world record previous held by Pakistan's Kamran Ghulam with a 53-ball century in 2019. Having broken the Indian record with nine sixes in the previous match, Suryavanshi took it a notch above to 10 maximums alongside 13 fours as he racked up 143 in only 78 deliveries against a hapless English attack. Suryavanshi's growing belligerence has received lavish praise from former India head coach Ravi Shastri too, with the World Cup winner stressing that the 14-year-old could soon be fast-tracked into the national team. Shastri feels he has ticked most boxes and only one final hurdle remains after having previously put on a stunning exhibition during his maiden IPL season for Rajasthan Royals earlier this year. The dashing southpaw conjured up a 35-ball century, making it the fastest IPL hundred ever by an Indian across 18 seasons of the league. The Bihar prodigy has made rapid strides since making global headlines when he debuted for the state in the Ranji Trophy, aged 12 last year, the youngest ever in the history of the tournament. Picked up almost instantly into the India U19 First-Class set-up, Suryavanshi took the spotligh during the Youth Test series against Australia in Chennai last year, where he smashed 104 runs off just 62 balls. Aged 13 years and 188 days, the left-hander became the youngest centurion in the history of international competitive cricket, setting the record for the fastest century by an Indian at the youth level in only 58 balls. 🚨 Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits a sublime 52-ball hundred at Visit Worcestershire New Road and ends out on 143 from 73 deliveries, with 23 boundaries 🤯🇮🇳 @BCCI — Worcestershire CCC (@WorcsCCC) July 5, 2025 Discussing Suryavanshi's rapidly growing reputation in the age-group circuit with former England captain Michael Atheron during the India-England Edgbaston Test, Shastri said all Suryavanshi needs to do is ace First-Class cricket to knock the doors on the national side within the next couple of years. 'He will play First-Class cricket, but that's what the IPL does. It gives you that platform. The whole country sees you. And you catch the imagination of everyone. It will fast-track him if he goes and plays First-Class cricket, goes and gets a couple of hundreds in his first couple of seasons.' 'He has already caught the eyes; already made it to the Under-19 team at the age of 14. Smacking it everywhere. And it's tours like this to England, with this exposure. He can only improve,' Shastri added. In only seven Youth ODIs, Suryavanshi has clobbered 32 sixes, a feat only better by Unmukt Chand (38) in all recorded Under-19 cricket.

Video: Bayern Munich Star Jamal Musiala's Horrific Ankle Injury Shakes Up Football World

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala suffered a horrific injury in the club's 0-2 defeat against European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday. Musiala, who is widely regarded as one of the finest players in the world, fell and appeared to suffer a severe ankle injury after an innocuous collision in play with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. It was later reported that Musiala broke his left fibula and damaged several ligaments, which would keep him out of action for about 4-5 months. Musiala's teammates could barely stand to watch the nature of the injury the German international suffered. Even PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma, whose dive resulted in the injury to the young attacker, seemed emotional as he saw Musiala's twisted ankle. This is bizarre, look at Musiala's foot And the referee didnt give a fuck about it — MONTEIRAO (@33monteirao) July 5, 2025 The Bayern midfielder was taken off on a stretcher and replaced by Serge Gnabry for the second half. Look at their reactions man I'm gonna cry he's gone for at least a year — - (@MusialaEra) July 5, 2025 Several football players took to social media to share their 'get well soon' messages for Musiala. Neymar to Musiala on IG: "I hope you recover quickly and shine again! Football needs your talent. Forca " — Stop That Messi (@stopthatmessiii) July 5, 2025 "I've rarely been so angry at half-time, not against my players," Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany told reporters after the game. "There are many things in life that are much more important than this, but in the end, for these guys, it's their life. "Someone like Jamal lives for this and he (recently) came back from a setback. And then it happens in the way it happens and you feel powerless." Kompany said he wanted his Bayern side to try and find motivation in the injury against the European champions. "You try and get strength out of it because you want to do it for Jamal," explained the Belgian coach. "When I'm sat here next to you now, the thing that gets my blood still boiling at the moment, it's not the result. "I understand this is football, but it's the fact that it happened to someone that, for one, enjoys the game so much, but also is very important for us. "It didn't look good... it looks like an ankle injury of some type, but I'm not going to make a diagnosis here." PSG players also showed support for the youngster -- one of football's most promising young talents. "A shout-out to Jamal Musiala, who suffered a serious injury, it's something you do not want to see on the field," PSG defender Marquinhos told DAZN. "It's important we talk about Jamal Musiala," said Achraf Hakimi. "I want to give my support to him. We hope to see him back on the pitch soon."
