Jamal Musiala gets a new shirt number at Bayern following Leroy Sane's departure

Jamal Musiala has got a new shirt number at Bayern Munich after Leroy Sane departed from the club. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on July 1, 2025, 19:10 IST Jamal Musiala has got a new shirt number at Bayern Munich after Leroy Sane departed from the club. He has received an iconic number 10 jersey and from next season, he'll be an important player of the club. Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has officially been handed the iconic No. 10 jersey following the departure of Leroy Sané from the club. The change marks a significant moment in Musiala's career as he continues to rise as one of the most important players in the Bavarian squad. Previously donning the No. 42, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder will now wear a shirt number historically associated with club legends such as Arjen Robben and Philippe Coutinho. The No. 10 carries high expectations, often reserved for a team's creative engine — a role Musiala is increasingly expected to fulfill. Musiala has already proven his worth with consistent performances in recent seasons, showcasing his dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring ability. As Bayern look to reclaim their dominance in the Bundesliga and Europe, the German international is set to be a central figure in the team's plans. Benfica vs Bayern Munich prediction, odds and betting offer

Two European heavyweights go head-to-head in the final group stage match but with Bayern Munich already in the next round this could well benefit Benfica Bayern Munich have already secured their spot in the last-16 of the Club World Cup, and as they approach their final Group C clash against Benfica, the German champions are unlikely to take it easy. A draw would work well for both sides, ensuring Bayern top the group while Benfica advance to the knockout stage. However, given Benfica's recent struggles, avoiding a sixth consecutive defeat to Bayern might be a tall order. In their previous Champions League encounter in November, Jamal Musiala netted the crucial goal for Bayern. Although Musiala might miss this match due to fitness concerns, Bayern's strength is likely to shine through once more. Bayern kicked off their Club World Cup journey with a staggering 10-0 victory against Auckland City, where Musiala made a memorable appearance from the bench, scoring a rapid hat-trick in just 16 minutes. While Bayern surged to a 4-0 lead within 21 minutes against Auckland, Benfica managed to fend them off until first-half injury time during their own encounter, when Angel Di Maria's penalty salvaged some pride for the Portuguese side. Bruno Lage's team has faced setbacks recently, narrowly missing out on the Primeira Liga title and falling short in the Portuguese Cup final after extra time against Sporting. On matchday one, Benfica showed resilience by clawing back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Boca Juniors, despite veteran Nicolas Otamendi scoring both for and against his team. The game also saw Andrea Belotti sent off and left-back Alvaro Carreras suspended, adding to manager Lage's woes after a heated exchange with Orkun Kokcu following his substitution against Auckland. Conversely, Bayern's camp seems much more harmonious under Vincent Kompany's leadership as they reclaimed the Bundesliga title. Star striker Harry Kane opened the scoring against Boca Juniors before Michael Olise sealed an 84th-minute winner. After being ousted by Inter in the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern look poised to make a strong run in the Club World Cup and are expected to round off their Group C campaign flawlessly. Jamal Musiala back at training for Bayern Munich at Club World Cup after injury scare

Associated Press ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Star German midfielder Jamal Musiala is back training with Bayern Munich on Sunday after he went off only 25 minutes after entering Friday night's Club World Cup match for Bayern Munich and was substituted by national team veteran Thomas Muller in the 82nd minute. Musiala came on in the 57th minute against Boca Juniors. Originally, the concern was that Musiala might have sustained an injury, with coach Vincent Kompany saying after the game 'he wanted to talk to the doctors first.' The 22 year-old had been recovering from a torn hamstring during the Bundesliga season. Musiala had not played since April and returned to Bayern training on May 7. Bayern and German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann decided not to select him to the squad during the UEFA Nations League semifinals in late May. Musiala has already had a hat trick in this Club World Cup, in Bayern's first game rout of Auckland City FC. ___ AP soccer: recommended in this topic

Bayern hope new Musiala injury is not serious

DPA Miami Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala limped off in the 2-1 Club World Cup win over Boca Juniors on Friday, but Sky Germany reported that he would be back in training on Sunday. Bayern's progression to the last 16 was marred by the Germany international, who had only just returned from a hamstring problem, going off with an apparent calf injury. The 22-year-old came on as a second-half substitute but only lasted 25 minutes. 'I definitely want to speak to the doctors first,' coach Vincent Kompany told reporters. 'We're flying to Orlando first and then we will know more.' Kompany said he spoke briefly with Musiala after the match. 'I hope it's nothing serious,' the coach said, adding that he was 'reasonably relaxed, although I don't know what the doctors will say.' After the final whistle, Musiala still joined his team-mates in celebrating with the Bayern fans in the stands. Broadcaster Sky later said on Saturday that the injury would be easy to overcome. Musiala had been sidelined for two months ahead of the Club World Cup. Following his spectacular three-goal comeback as a substitute in the 10-0 win against Auckland City, he was supposed to gain more match practice against Boca Juniors to be ready for the starting line-up in the knockout phase. This plan now looks in jeopardy. Bayern face second-placed Benfica in the final group stage match in Charlotte on Tuesday to determine the Group C winner.
