Liquor scam: No SC relief for Rajampet MP Midhun Reddy
Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail petition filed by Rajampet MP P Midhun Reddy in the alleged liquor scam case. The SIT probing the case named Midhun as an accused (A-4) and termed him the mastermind behind the scam. Andhra Pradesh high court earlier dismissed his anticipatory bail petition, noting that it is necessary to give a free hand to the investigating officer as the prosecution had made a prima facie case against the YSRCP leader. Challenging the HC order, Midhun moved the apex court seeking relief from arrest. Arguing on his behalf, senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the case was foisted for political reasons. He said the SIT called the YSRCP MP for inquiry only once and no new material was produced by the investigating agency against him. The SIT is already in the process of filing a charge sheet in the case, and no custodial interrogation is necessary as the petitioner is willing to cooperate with the investigation. The SC bench, comprising of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, asked how the investigation agency can file a charge sheet without arresting the accused. As the bench was not inclined to grant any relief, Singhvi sought one week's time to surrender. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Following the dismissal of Midhun's anticipatory bail application, the SIT filed a memo for a warrant before the trial court to arrest him. The SIT has been arguing that Midhun played a key role in changing the excise policy and altering the order-placing mechanism from automatic to manual system. It was also alleged that he was the mastermind in collecting commissions from suppliers and transferring money to different entities.

Jyotisar set to become a world-class historic tourism destination: Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini
Haryana chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini announced that Jyotisar, the revered site where Lord Krishna delivered the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, is being developed into a grand and globally renowned historic tourism destination. The state government is investing approximately Rs 250 crore to transform Jyotisar into a world-class spiritual and experiential centre that will showcase the rich cultural heritage of Kurukshetra. The CM made this announcement while inspecting the Mahabharata Anubhav Kendra(Experiential Centre). He was accompanied by RSS ideologue and Gita scholar Swami Gyananand, senior government officials, and local BJP leaders. During the visit, CM Saini closely examined various thematic galleries, including the Mahabharata chamber, Kuru dynasty timeline, Gita shlokas, Krishna's role, and the Dashavatar gallery. Officials from the Haryana Tourism Department, including Principal Secretary Kalachandran and Director Shaleen, briefed the CM on the project's current status and future plans through a detailed presentation. CM Saini directed the authorities to expedite all remaining construction work and ensure that the center is opened to tourists at the earliest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like High Blood Sugar? The CM offered prayers for the prosperity of the people of Haryana at the Shri Shri Kripa Bihari Mandir located in the Gita Gyan Sansthanam, and held a discussion with Swami Gyananand Maharaj, who runs this private Gita institute. Speaking to the media, CM Saini stated, 'Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India's cultural heritage has been significantly strengthened. The development of Jyotisar on a Mahabharata-themed project is a testimony to our commitment to preserving our spiritual legacy.' He added that the PM has been invited to visit Kurukshetra, and if he accepts, it will be a historic moment for the region. He also announced that the Kalpana Chawla Planetarium will soon be reopened for tourists and reiterated that Jyotisar will emerge as one of the most iconic heritage sites in the world. 9200 buses arranged for CET examinees On youth welfare, CM Saini highlighted that the state government has made extensive arrangements for the upcoming CET Group-C exam, to be held on July 26 and 27. Over 13.87 lakh candidates have applied, and 9,200 buses, including those from Haryana Roadways and private schools, will transport candidates to and from their exam centers. A family member accompanying a female candidate will also be allowed to travel free of cost. On Robert Vadra and Punjab politics Responding to a media query on Robert Vadra, CM Saini stated that the ongoing investigations are part of long-standing corruption cases dating back to the Congress regime, where 'rules were flouted to benefit a few elites, including Vadra, at the cost of the poor.' When asked about Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Saini alleged that 'other forces seem to be controlling the government, and often the CM himself appears unaware of what's happening under his leadership.' Several prominent personalities and officials were present during the inspection, including former minister Subhash Sudha, senior BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Sharma, OSD Bharat Bhushan Bharti, DC Neha Singh, SP Nitish Aggarwal, and members of the Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board, among others.

10 MLAs raise objections to VMRDA's master plan
1 2 Visakhapatnam: The objection submission period, part of the ongoing revision exercise of the VMRDA master plan–2041, concluded on July 17. Over the past two days, nearly 10 MLAs and other public representatives from Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam visited the VMRDA office to submit representations outlining their objections and suggestions regarding the proposed master plan roads and other projects proposed in the plan. While the majority of objections and recommendations pertain to the proposed road extensions across these three districts, some submissions focused on designating areas for parking facilities and enhancing green cover. Several MLAs advocated for prioritising the development of master plan roads while avoiding alignments that pass through VMRDA-approved layouts. They voiced the concerns of residents in their respective constituencies regarding various aspects of the proposed developments. Among those who submitted suggestions were Vizag North MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju, Vizag South MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, Vizianagaram MLA Aditi Gajapathi Raju, Yelamanchili MLA S Vijay Kumar, Pendurthi MLA P Ramesh Babu, Vizag West MLA Gana Babu, Vizag East MLA V Ramakrishna Babu, and Nellimarla MLA L Naga Madhavi. As part of the master plan-2041, drafted under the previous YSRCP administration, at least 30 major and arterial roads are proposed to be widened—some by as much as threefold—potentially impacting existing commercial and residential zones. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo For example, during public consultations held on July 16 and 17, there was a request to halt the road widening from Nowroji Road to Waltair Main Road in Daspalla Hills. Similarly, locals requested that the existing 40-foot road in Madhurawada survey number 374/1 be retained instead of widening it to 60 feet. GVMC corporator AJ Stalin submitted a letter requesting the continuation of a 60-metre road, rather than the proposed 80-metre road, from Lankalapalem to Sheila Nagar. Members of the Visakhapatnam Cooperative House Building Society have requested that their land near Diamond Park be exempted from inclusion in the proposed green belt. Another request was made to reclassify land in Gambheeram gram panchayat (survey Nos. 71–78, 81, 82, 111–139) from an eco-sensitive zone to a mixed land use zone. Villagers from Bheemili Chinna Bazaar appealed for the removal of a proposed road that would result in displacement from their homes. The secretary of the Fisherman Youth Welfare Association recommended incorporating fish landing centres into the master plan to support livelihoods in approximately 84 fishing villages across the combined Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts. Nellimarla MLA Lokam Madhavi submitted suggestions for changes to road alignments within her constituency, including routes such as Bhogapuram–Subbannapeta, Bhogapuram–Kongavanipalem–Mukkam, Bhogapuram–Baireddipalem, Denkada–Singavaram, and Denkada–Nathavalsa. Speaking to TOI, VMRDA chairman MV Pranav Gopal said that the response from stakeholders regarding the consultation and feedback process has been overwhelmingly positive. "Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed us to ensure transparency in bringing out the master plan. Accordingly, we undertook a comprehensive process of collecting suggestions and feedback. A white paper on the master plan will be soon released," Pranav said.
