Field marshal rebukes 'external support' claims in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos

Express Tribune2 days ago
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has categorically rejected claims of foreign support in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos against India, calling them 'irresponsible and factually incorrect'.
'Insinuations regarding external support in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos are irresponsible and factually incorrect. They reflect a chronic reluctance to acknowledge indigenous capability and institutional resilience developed over decades of strategic prudence,' he stated.
Last week, Indian Deputy Army Chief Lt General Rahul Singh admitted India's military defeat in the operation, further complicating India's already failed attempt to cover up its humiliation.
Lt Gen Singh's statement, made two months after the operation's failure, included baseless accusations against Pakistan, claiming that its success was the result of foreign support from China and Turkey.
However, security experts rejected these allegations, instead reaffirming that Pakistan's victory was achieved entirely through its own strength.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir made these remarks while addressing graduating officers of the National Security and War Course at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad on Monday.
Highlighting India's failure in Operation Sindoor and Pakistan's success in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, Munir noted that India's inability to achieve its stated military objectives—and the subsequent attempts to justify this failure through convoluted logic—reflects its lack of operational readiness and strategic foresight.
'Naming other states as participants in a purely bilateral military conflagration is a shoddy attempt at playing camp politics,' he said. 'It is a desperate bid to portray India as the net security provider in a region that is increasingly weary of its hegemonic and extremist Hindutva ideology.'

He reiterated Pakistan's principled stance, warning that 'any misadventure or attempts to undermine Pakistan's sovereignty or violate its territorial integrity will be reflexively met with a swift and resolute response—without any constraints or inhibitions.'
'Any attempt to target our population centres, military bases, economic hubs, or ports will instantly invoke a 'deeply hurting and more than reciprocal response',' said COAS.
Field Marshal Munir further stated that the onus of escalation will lie squarely on the 'strategically blind, arrogant aggressor who fails to recognise the grave repercussions of such provocative actions against a sovereign nuclear state.'
Munir said, 'Pakistan has forged lasting partnerships based on principled diplomacy, anchored in mutual respect and peace, establishing itself as a stabilising force in the region.'

He asserted that wars are not won through media rhetoric, imported fancy hardware, or political sloganeering, but through faith, professional competence, operational clarity, institutional strength, and national resolve.
Field Marshal Munir concluded by expressing full confidence in the professionalism, morale, and combat readiness of Pakistan's armed forces. He urged the graduating officers to remain steadfast in their values of integrity, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to the nation.
According to ISPR, the field marshal was warmly received by the President of NDU upon arrival. 'In his address, Field Marshal Munir highlighted the evolving character of warfare and underscored the centrality of mental preparedness, operational clarity, and institutional professionalism in navigating complex strategic issues,' read the ISPR statement.
He also lauded NDU's role in strengthening civil-military synergy and nurturing future leadership capable of countering hybrid, conventional, and sub-conventional threats with poise and resolve.
Operation Bunyanum Marsoos
Pakistan Armed Forces conducted Operation Bunyanum Marsoos on May 10 as part of the military conflict 'Marka-e-Haq' in response to Indian military's dastardly attacks that began on the night of May 6 and 7, resulting in the loss of innocent civilian lives, including women, children, and the elderly.
On May 10, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and deployed its Al-Fatah missile and targeted multiple Indian military installations. However, after the intervention of US President Donald Trump, a full and immediate ceasefire was reached between India and Pakistan.

X blasts India ‘censorship' order on thousands of accounts

NEW DELHI: Social media platform X said Tuesday it was 'deeply concerned' after the Indian government ordered it last week to block 2,355 accounts, including two Reuters news agency accounts. Many of the blocked accounts were restored hours later, with New Delhi specifically denying its role in the takedown. India, the world's biggest democracy, regularly ranks among the top five countries for the number of requests made by a government to remove social media content. 'On July 3, 2025, the Indian government ordered X to block 2,355 accounts in India, including international news outlets like @Reuters and @ReutersWorld,' X's Global Government Affairs team said in a statement, shared on its platform. It said that India's Ministry of Electronics 'demanded immediate action — within one hour — without providing justification, and required the accounts to remain blocked' until further notice. The accounts were taken offline late on Saturday, but had resumed operations by Sunday. 'Non-compliance risked criminal liability,' said X, the platform owned by Tesla boss Elon Musk and formerly known as Twitter. 'After public outcry, the government requested X to unblock @Reuters and @ReutersWorld,' it added. 'We are deeply concerned about ongoing press censorship in India due to these blocking orders.' Rights groups say freedom of expression and free press is under threat in India since Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014. New Delhi has regularly imposed blanket internet shutdowns during periods of unrest. India in April launched a sweeping crackdown on social media, banning more than a dozen Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly spreading 'provocative' content following an attack in Kashmir. Many of those of have been restored. New Delhi has also imposed intermittent internet outages in the northeastern state of Manipur since 2023 in the wake of ethnic violence.

I-Day to be celebrated as 'Marka-i-Haq'

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday said that this year's Independence Day would be celebrated under the banner of "Marka-i-Haq" (Battle of Truth) to demonstrate the nation's resilience, progress, and pride. The Pakistan Army had named the period of conflict with India since the April 22 Pahalgam attack to the May 10 conclusion of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos as "Marka-i-Haq" in May. The military confrontation between India and Pakistan came as the former blamed Islamabad for the April 22 Pahalgam attack without evidence. On the night of May 6-7, New Delhi launched a series of air strikes on Pakistan, resulting in civilian casualties. Both sides then exchanged missiles, which stretched over the week. It took a US-brokered ceasefire for both sides to finally drop their guns. Iqbal presided over a preliminary meeting today under the prime minister's directions to celebrate this year's Independence Day with "full national spirit and renewed resolve".
