2027 5-star CB praises Texas A&M coaching staff after recent unofficial visit
The focus for Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff this summer remains building the 2026 recruiting class, which is currently ranked fourth nationally with 21 commits, including the recent additions of four-star offensive tackles Avery Morcho and Zaden Krempin. However, Elko has also placed focus on several elite prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle, including five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. On Saturday, June 13, Texas A&M defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, defensive back coach Jordan Peterson and several other staff members hosted Dobson and his family for an unofficial visit, which is a crucial first step to gaining a comfort level with the standout South Carolina native who is being heavily pursued by every top program in the country. On Friday, during the open media portion of this weekend's UA (Under Armour) Next Future 50 event, Dobson, one of the 50 2027 attendees, spoke to Under Armour All-American Bowl Director Billy Tucker, who briefly discussed his Texas A&M visit and fondness for Mike Elko and the defensive staff: "I was out there two weeks ago, and, just like everything, coach (Mike) Elko is a DB (defensive back) coach, so that means alot to me right there, and just seeing the stadium (Kyle Field) and just seeing the way they go about things." For many cornerback and safety prospects in the 2026 class, including five-star commit Brandon Arrington, Mike Elko's background as a defensive coordinator and defensive back coach, developing several current high level NFL starters/contributors is quite the selling point for Dobson, who will now heavily consider the Aggies heading into next spring/summer. During his 2024 sophomore season, Dobson recorded 48 tackles, three interceptions, and ten pass breakups. According to 247Sports, Dobson is currently positioned as the 7th-ranked prospect in 2the 026 class, the 2nd-ranked cornerback, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in South Carolina. Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M OL Ar'maj Reed-Adams with his player profile
As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko. Ar'maj Reed-Adams stepped into a starting role after transferring to Texas A&M following four seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks. He arrived in Aggieland as an extremely versatile lineman and provided first-year head coach Mike Elko with a veteran presence across an offensive line that experienced frequent quarterback changes until Marcel Reed eventually took over. After weighing whether to enter the NFL Draft or return to A&M, Reed-Adams officially announced his decision to stay in Aggieland for his senior season. It's a gamble as he was projected as a Day 2 or Day 3 draft pick, but with another solid year, he could elevate his stock into early Day 2 territory. Preseason Player Profile Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2020) The former three-star prospect signed with Kansas out of high school after finishing his senior year at DeSoto High School. He was a late bloomer, but standing at 6-5, over 300 lbs., he made for an intriguing prospect with a high upside. Depth Chart Outlook Reed-Adams started every game at right guard during the 2024 season and is expected to return to the same role, anchoring a strong offensive line that helped Texas A&M become one of the premier rushing teams in the nation. 2026 5-star WR and LSU commit praises Texas A&M WR coach Holmon Wiggins
Texas A&M's third-ranked 2026 recruiting class features elite talent at nearly every position. After landing four-star tackles Avery Morcho and Zaden Krempin on Wednesday afternoon, coach Mike Elko and his staff are still in the running for several elite prospects in the cycle, which includes five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys, who is presently committed to LSU. Highly regarded as one of the best athletes in the class due to his eltie route running skill set, downfield speed and 6-3 frame, Keys understads that despite his LSU commitment, his recent official visits to Texas A&M (June 5), Auburn (June 10), Tennessee (June 13) and Alabama (June 17) are all being taken into account before he potentially signs with the Tigers. On Thursday, Keys, who was taking part in the annual OT7 Overtime event, sat down with the 247Sports recruiting staff to discuss his recent OVs, and what may be surprising to some, after the host asked what Keys likes the most about Texas A&M, the facilities, coach Mike Elko, and WR coach Holmon Wiggins led the way. "Everything, man; It's a business school, they do a great job from business standpoint, a lot of connectons, networking, etc." Keys stated. "But the main part for me would be coach (Holmon) Wiggins, man. He's got a great resume, and is one of the best." Wiggins' impact after one full offseason with Texas A&M included landing 2025 five-star WR Jerome Myles, and securing commitments from veteran receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver from the transfer portal. During his five-year coaching career at Alabama, Wiggins helped develop several first-round wide receivers, including DeVonta Smith, who won the Heisman Trophy after the 2020 season. While Texas A&M has not had a 1,000-yard receiver since Josh Reynolds hauled in 1,039 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2016 season, Wiggins has proven his worth as a recruiter/developer heading into his second season with the Aggies. During his 2024 junior season, Tristen Keys recorded 58 receptions for 1,275 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, leading Hattiesburg High School to the MHSAA Class 6A title game. Texas A&M Football Has a Unanimous Prediction To Land Three-Star Offensive Lineman Aaron Thomas
Texas A&M Football Has a Unanimous Prediction To Land Three-Star Offensive Lineman Aaron Thomas originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Nothing is definite in recruitment, but Texas A&M football is trending in the right direction to land a three-star offensive lineman. After four-star Camren Hamiel announced his commitment on June 4, the Aggies have been a leader in picking up this second Arizona native. Advertisement College Station was last spot that the class of 2026 recruit had left to visit in June. Now with his decision date coming up quickly, Wednesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. EST will determine whether the Aggies stayed fresh in his mind enough to take his talents to Texas A&M. Aaron Thomas is the No. 439 overall recruit and No. 36 offensive tackle in the country from his class, according to 247Sports. He's also listed as the No. 5 recruit out of Arizona. Texas A&M football head coach Mike Lysaker-Imagn Images Head coach Mike Elko's biggest competition for Thomas is Ohio State. Both schools are ranked at the top of Thomas' four-team list. Behind the Aggies and Buckeyes are Florida State and Washington who have potential to land the recruit. In his announcement post on X, he also grouped Texas into the mix, though the Longhorns don't seem to have solid traction with the offensive tackle. Crystal Ball® Predictions are suggesting that Texas A&M has a 100 percent chance to reel in the offensive lineman. Elko currently has four-star interior offensive lineman Samuel Roseborough committed, meaning Thomas would have more room to work with within the position. Ohio State and Washington both have two tackles on their class of 2026 roster. Advertisement Florida State, though, not only has a clean slate in the position like Texas A&M but also a family connection. According to Texas A&M Aggies on SI, Thomas' father, Eric, played for the Seminole's offensive line. Even though Florida State isn't currently projected to be a top two team in the rising senior's mind, things can flip at any moment right down to the last second. Elite Young Quarterback Jayce Johnson Heavily Considering Texas A&M football for Far Future NCAA Career
Elite Young Quarterback Jayce Johnson Heavily Considering Texas A&M football for Far Future NCAA Career originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's never certain where recruits will land, even after giving verbal commitments. However, it doesn't hurt to be a top five consideration for a class' No. 2 overall quarterback. Advertisement Right now, Texas A&M football has a chance to take its class of 2026 recent recruitment success and start plucking rising juniors out of the masses. The Aggies already have tight end George Lamons Jr. committed from the class of 2027, and an elite quarterback might be next. Texas A&M football head coach Mike Lysaker/Imagn Images. Jayce Johnson has already received 29 offers in his inbox. The four-star recruit is a Valdosta, Ga. native that's ranked No. 32 overall from his class. He's also the second highest rated quarterback and fourth most rated recruit from Georgia. With a slew of schools to choose from (and likely more coming in the future) and no deadline pressuring Johnson, an Aug. 3 announcement date for his commitment may seem a bit premature. Advertisement From now until recruits start signing, any school can manage a flip. Regardless of which team is announced on that Sunday, it will be necessary to try and buckle Johnson in as coaches continue to apply pressure. 247Sports' Cooper Petagna wrote in Johnson's scouting report: "Imposing frame for a prospect who is still 15 years of age. Physically advanced for his age . . . Displays above average athleticism avoiding and escaping pressure in the pocket . . . adequate mobility as a runner. Flashes excellent arm strength with a tight, abbreviated motion, showing the ability to get the ball out quickly. Flashes some touch on his deep ball but will need to continue to learn how to play with touch and change velocity . . . Shows a natural gamer demeanor, along with the ability to play within the structure of the offense . . . Still needs some technical and athletic development, but one of the most physically talented QB prospects in the class at this early stage." Being in the top five consideration now, though, is always a good feeling. After his decision, it'll be likely that the remaining four schools have a higher chance to flip Johnson's decision later on. Texas A&M is in that position one way or another. Advertisement Johnson's other four schools of his top five finalists are Florida State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Tennessee. At the time, it's very uncertain if the rising junior is leaning one way or another. With the thrilling trajectory of head coach Mike Elko's current recruitment, an early commitment can determine a bright future for his class of 2027.
