However, many people travel by train without being aware of the railway rules. Did you know that if someone books a Sleeper Class ticket, it can be upgraded to an AC class as well? What are the rules for ticket upgrades?
Train tickets can be upgraded to a higher class for free if seats are available after the chart is prepared, under IRCTC's auto-upgrade policy. It is important to note that this upgrade generally applies to waitlisted tickets in Sleeper Class and Seating Class. The upgrade is automatic and depends on the availability of seats in the higher class. However, your ticket can be upgraded to a maximum of two higher classes only. Steps to book tickets:
To avail the ticket upgrade facility, passengers must select the upgrade option while booking their train tickets on IRCTC. If this option is not selected, the facility will not be available. Here's how to choose the option: Click on the class of your preferred train as per your convenience.
Fill in the passenger details such as name, age, gender, berth preference, and other required information.
To upgrade your ticket to a higher class, tick the checkbox for auto-upgrade.

New York: The US should not burn its relationship with a "strong ally like India" and give a pass to China, Indian-American Republican leader Nikki Haley said on Tuesday, amid President Donald Trump's attacks against New Delhi over tariffs and purchases of Russian oil. Meanwhile, Trump, in an interview with CNBC responded to a question on China and its leader, Xi Jinping, and said, "We have a very good relationship". Trump added that he might have a meeting with the Chinese President "before the end of the year, most likely, if we make a deal." He said he won't have a meeting if a deal doesn't materialise. "But we're getting very close to a deal. We're getting along with China very well." Trump added that China is "very reliant" on the US. "My relationship with them is very good. Trump Says Tariffs On Pharma, Chips Coming By "Next Week Or So"
US President Donald Trump signaled Tuesday that fresh tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals and semiconductors could be unveiled as soon as the coming week, as he presses on in efforts to reshape global trade. Trump's latest comments, in an interview on CNBC, come days before a separate set of tariff hikes takes effect on dozens of economies later this week. The sweeping tariff plans have sparked a flurry of activity as governments seek to avert the worst of his threats -- with Switzerland's leaders heading to Washington on Tuesday in a last-minute push to avoid punitive duties. But he appears set to widen his trade wars further. The US president told CNBC that upcoming tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals could reach 250 percent, while adding that he plans for new duties on foreign semiconductors soon. "We'll be putting (an) initially small tariff on pharmaceuticals, but in one year, one-and-a-half years, maximum, it's going to go to 150 percent," Trump said. "And then it's going to go to 250 percent because we want pharmaceuticals made in our country." Trump also said that Washington will be announcing tariffs "within the next week or so." He added: "We're going to be announcing on semiconductors and chips." Concern For US Economy Trump has taken aim at products from different countries with varying tariff rates after imposing a 10-percent levy on almost all trading partners in April -- with excluded products targeted by sector. New chip research centre to open at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation in Chandigarh in 2 years
Chandigarh: In a move to boost India's presence in the global semiconductor market, a new research centre is slated to open at the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) in Chandigarh in two years. The foundation stone for the "Opto Microelectronic Research Centre," a first-of-its-kind facility in the country, was laid on Tuesday by Dr N Kalaiselvi, director-general, CSIR. The establishment of this centre is a direct initiative under the "India Semiconductor Mission," a govt programme launched in Dec 2021 with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. The mission aims to provide financial support for investments in semiconductor fabrication, display manufacturing, and chip design to strengthen India's electronics value chains. The new centre is specifically designed to bolster the country's capability in semiconductor packaging, a critical "back-end" manufacturing process. The project is structured with a phased timeline. The initial three years will focus on mini-displays assembly, testing, marking, and packaging.
