Free power supply for Andhra weavers from August 7
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced it while addressing the gathering at Praja Vedika in Jammalamadugu mandal of Kadapa district on Friday, meant for the disbursement of pensions.
Under the new welfare scheme, which was approved by the State Cabinet in March this year, 500 units of free power will be supplied to power loom operators, and 200 units to handloom weavers. The new free power scheme stands to benefit 50,000 families of handloom weavers, and 11,500 families of those dependent on powerlooms. The State will bear an additional burden of Rs 125 crore per year to implement it.
Naidu detailed the NTR Bharosa scheme, disbursing Rs 33,000 crore annually to 64 lakh beneficiaries, the highest in India. He announced 1.09 lakh new spouse pensions worth Rs 520 crore, and 1,08,499 widow pensions costing Rs 43.40 crore, delivered directly, including 14,703 hospitalised and 31,496 relocated beneficiaries. He emphasised prioritising pension distribution on first of every month, adjusting his schedule post-Singapore visit.

West Bengal launches Rs 8,000 crore initiative to address local civic issues
The West Bengal government on Saturday launched a new outreach programme called Amader Para, Amader Samadhan (Our Neighborhood, Our Solution) to address local civic issues such as roads, drinking water, street lighting and initiative began on Saturday with 632 camps set up across the state on the first day. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that over 27,000 such camps will be held over the next 60 days, covering more than 80,000 polling this Rs 8,000 crore initiative, the state has allocated Rs 10 lakh per booth. Residents can visit their local camps with their voter ID and submit written complaints along with their name, address, ward number, booth number and mobile number. The government has committed to resolving the registered issues by November 15, following a 30 day administrative review after the camp period ends. The camps are set up to directly engage with residents, allowing them to report and prioritise local like street light installation, small road repairs, drinking water supply, renovation of water bodies, repair of schools and community halls, construction of toilets in slums and area beautification are being prioritised.'Duare Sarkar' service counters are also included in the camps to help with state-run scheme programme is being monitored by a task force led by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, with district-level teams supervising the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, one camp serves every two booths. HC dismisses bail plea of main accused in removing national flag from a Gurugram mosque
The Punjab and Haryana high court has denied anticipatory bail to a Gurugram man who allegedly replaced the national flag atop a mosque with saffron flag observing that conduct of the petitioner had 'serious communal and constitutional implications'. The gravity of the offence and its potential impact on public order and communal peace cannot be overlooked at this stage,' the bench of justice Manisha Batra observed while dismissing the plea from one Vikas Tomar from Gurugram. He had approached high court seeking pre-arrest bail in an FIR registered on July 7 this year under Sections 299,3(5),61(2)AND 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Honours Act, 1971 and causing disappearance of evidence at Bilaspur police station in Gurugram. He had argued that was falsely implicated in this case and had no role to play in the entire incident. Allegations were that on July 7 police received information that the national flag being hoisted on a mosque was replaced with another flag in a Bilaspur locality by unsocial elements. The complainant gave three names to the police and also provided an audio and video recording. During the probe petitioner's role had surfaced, the police had told the court. State's counsel had told the court that there are serious and specific allegations against the petitioner who with an intent to create communal tension in the vicinity, had got the national flag hoisted in the mosque of village Uton removed and instead unfurled a saffron flag in place of the same with an intent to cause hurt to religious feelings of the members of Muslim community. For conducting a deeper probe, custodial interrogation of the petitioner is must. Hence, pre-arrest bail be not allowed, the state's counsel had told the court. The court observed that no extraordinary or exceptional circumstance has been brought on record by the petitioner that would warrant court's interference in his favour. '…in light of the serious communal and constitutional implications of the alleged conduct. …custodial interrogation of a suspected person is qualitatively more elicitation oriented than questioning a suspect …(on anticipatory bail). Many useful information can be disinterred during custodial interrogation,' the bench said dismissing the plea and adding that a deeper and proper probe is required and the custodial interrogation of the petitioner is 'must'.
