Asma Abbas tears up in Sumbul Shahid's memory
She soon broke into tears, her voice quivering as she continued, "Today is May 6. It's the death anniversary of my Sumbul baji. It's been four years since she left us." The Radd actor took a moment to dwell on how quickly the four years have flown by. "It's been four years and it doesn't even feel like it," she said.
Sumbul passed away in 2021 after battling Covid-19 on a ventilator. Both Asma and actor Bushra Ansari informed their fans about their sister's affliction and requested them to pray for a speedy recovery.
"She was very innocent," Asma said of her sister. "So innocent that she didn't even realise that she had fallen sick. How she passed on, I don't know. But her departure, my parents' departure, it has all affected my heart deeply. And after that, there has been no joy left in life."
Despite her relentless sorrow, the veteran actor is grateful for the gift of life. "We've been spending our life, all thanks to God. This life is indeed His blessing. But given these tragedies, there is no delight left in life anymore, no enjoyment."
Asma thanked her fans for extending their well-wishes and support while also giving her advice on how to stay strong during periods of grief. "Yes, keeping busy is important and I do that too. But the thing is, the dejection of losing my loved ones has settled deep within. It's not going to end."
Providing some context, she mentioned that she was on set and had been in low spirits since morning. "That's why I have tears in my eyes. My heart was aching," she said.
"I kept thinking about many lovely memories with her. My sister was very naive and God-fearing. It is as they say, when someone passes, that they're now near and dear to God. She was always that way because her faith was so strong. There is no greater pain for a mother than her child's suffering, yet when her son passed away, she made sure to keep praying despite her grief."
Asma believes that effort doesn't make a person good, they just naturally have kind hearts, like her sister. For Asma, Sumbul had a touch of clumsy innocence to her, given her lack of awareness of material things, and she also had a beautiful singing voice.
While reminiscing about her sister's memorable moments, Asma took away something positive from Sumbul's passing. "She used to hate feeling old and would tell us not to call out her age on every birthday," the Sukoon actor recalled. "And look at God's plans. She departed young and never got to see the old age that she feared so much."
Bushra's note
On Thursday, Bushra also dedicated an Instagram post to her late sister, who she had worked with on the beloved comedy wedding series Kis Ki Aayegi Baraat.
Posting a solo photo of Sumbul, Bushra wrote, "My lovely sister, Sumbul Shahid. I miss you a lot. It's your death anniversary yet I still can't believe (that you're gone). May Allah bestow mercy upon you. Ameen."
Fans flooded the comments section with heartfelt prayers, acknowledging that the void that loved ones leave behind can never truly be filled.

Kylie Jenner reveals unique skill 3-year-old son Aire inherited from aunt Kendall Jenner
Kylie Jenner has revealed that her 3-year-old son Aire Webster has inherited a rather unique skill from his aunt Kendall Jenner—her famously awkward cucumber-cutting technique. The Kylie Cosmetics founder posted a snap to her Instagram Story showing Aire attempting to chop a cucumber using a toy cutting board, arms positioned exactly like Kendall's in her now-viral 2022 clip. In the photo, Aire holds the cucumber with his left arm stretched across his body, while slicing with his right arm over the top—perfectly imitating Kendall's method from The Kardashians. Kylie captioned the photo, 'Runs in the family?' and tagged Kendall directly. Photo: Instagram Kendall responded in good humour, reposting the image with the caption, 'I knew he was mine!!!' referencing the memorable scene that has followed her in pop culture ever since. The original moment from 2022 saw Kendall declaring to mum Kris Jenner that cutting a cucumber was 'pretty easy' before proceeding to awkwardly slice it with a technique that baffled viewers. While mocked at the time, the moment has since become an iconic Kardashian meme—and now, a playful family tradition.

Karan Aujla spots Pakistan flag at concert, says ‘We are one nation, one blood'
In a world often divided by borders and politics, it is heartening when art reminds us of our shared humanity. Amid ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, Punjabi singer-rapper Karan Aujla has offered a refreshing gesture of unity by acknowledging his cross-border fanbase. During a recent overseas concert, Aujla gave a shoutout to a fan waving the Pakistani flag in the crowd. 'Our brothers from Pakistan are also here. We are the same. We are one nation, one blood,' he said, prompting thunderous applause and cheers from the audience. During a recent overseas concert, Aujla gave a shoutout to a fan waving the Pakistani flag in the crowd. Fans from both countries responded warmly to Aujla's words. One Instagram user commented, 'Indian artists have a big heart,' while others filled the comment section with green heart emojis; a symbolic gesture of peace and solidarity. However, the moment did stir debate online. Some expressed concern over the artist's safety, writing: 'Indian government might give him a hard time now,' and 'Wait till he gets trolled for it in India.' Others dismissed the sentiment outright, countering with comments like: 'We are not one nation or one blood,' and 'We are totally different from each other.' One user went so far as to suggest Aujla should 'just shift to Pakistan' if he feels such kinship. Yet amidst the criticism, a few users saw an opportunity for bridge-building, urging the singer to share this spirit of unity with Indian politicians so that they might become more open-minded. Karan Aujla joins a small but growing list of Indian artists who have spoken out against cultural bans on Pakistani talent. Not long ago, Diljit Dosanjh faced backlash for appearing opposite Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in a film. Defending the collaboration, Dosanjh explained: 'When the movie was filmed in February, things were okay. Then things between the two countries escalated, which were not in our hands. I support the decision to release the movie overseas as valuable money and hard work went into it.' Following that statement, the singer-actor was targeted by online calls for a boycott. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees also urged action against him, claiming he had hurt national sentiments. His film Sardaar Ji 3 was eventually banned in India due to the involvement of a Pakistani actor. Have something to add to the story? Share it in the comments below.
