Hadid sister helps launch Palestinian film streaming site
"Unless we get (Palestinian) voices out there, nothing's going to change," said Badie Ali, one of two US-born Palestinian brothers who founded the website, where Hadid is creative director.
A model and activist, her father, property developer Mohamed Anwar Hadid, is Palestinian.
Showing "neglected or silenced" Palestinian perspectives was particularly important in the United States, an ally of Israel, Ali insisted.
The platform offers around 60 films, including several set in Gaza.
They span from Emmy-awarded documentary "Five Broken Cameras" to "The Wanted 18", a comic true story about West Bank villagers hiding cows inside their houses from Israeli troops during the First Intifada.
Co-founder Hamza Ali said the aim was to humanise Palestinians.
"It's dehumanisation and erasure that contribute to the politics," he said.
"We're more than our suffering. We're a warm, hospitable, creative, funny people."
Israeli bombardment has killed more than 53,000 people in Gaza, according to the besieged Hamas-run territory's health ministry, and an aid blockade also threatens famine.
Israeli leaders have expressed a desire to empty the territory of its more than two million inhabitants as part of the war sparked by Palestinian militant group Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
The unprecedented assault resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people on the Israeli side.
President Donald Trump said on Thursday he wanted the United States to "take" Gaza and turn it into a "freedom zone". Earlier this year, he said he wanted to transform it into the "Riviera of the Middle East".

Notorious French singer faces new probe over ex-wife's death
Bertrand Cantat, former singer with popular 1980s rock band Noir Desir (Black Desire), was the subject of a widely watched three-part Netflix documentary that aired from March this year. He was sentenced to prison over the killing of actress Marie Trintignant in a Vilnius hotel room in 2003, but worked and performed after being released despite protests and calls for a boycott. Prosecutors in Cantat's hometown Bordeaux said in a statement on Thursday they were looking into "potential acts of intentional violence" against his ex-wife Krisztina Rady, who was found hanged at her home in 2010. Advertisement Prosecutors will look into "several claims and testimonies not included" in four previous investigations into the circumstances of Rady's death, all of which were closed without charges, the statement said. In "The Cantat Case" on Netflix, a nurse claims that Rady visited a hospital in Bordeaux "following an altercation with her partner, a violent argument" which had resulted in a "scalp detachment and bruises." The nurse said he consulted her hospital file out of "curiosity" in the archives of a hospital in the city where he was a temporary worker. Is the new ‘Superman' film about Gaza?
The newest 'Superman' film has now grossed over $406.8 million (€345.65 million) worldwide and has been a runaway box office hit. The story follows the superhero to the fictional US-backed country of Boravia, which is attempting to occupy neighbouring impoverished Jarhanpur, which is also fictional. Some posts online claim that the imagery in the film is highly reminiscent of images from Gaza. People making these claims reference scenes such as one where a child holds a flag in the face of an invasion, and elements such as a border fence against a landscape that looks like the Palestinian territory. Boravia conducts a high-tech military operation against Jarhanpur, whose inhabitants are portrayed by Middle Eastern, South Asian, and Black actors. Meanwhile, the Boravians are played by white actors. The Consulate General of Israel in Los Angeles appeared to respond to the film with two Facebook posts reading 'Real Superheroes' alongside images that seem to be of the Israeli army. Production started before 7 October However, production, costume design, and casting for 'Superman' actually began in April 2023. Meanwhile, storyboarding took place in May, and screen tests took place in June; all before Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023. James Gunn, the American director of 'Superman', has also said in interviews that the script was completed before 7 October. He has insisted that there are no direct references to Israel and Palestine. Gunn did concede that the movie is 'about politics", but that the film is mainly about morality and kindness. However, filming did begin on 29 February 2024, which was after the attacks on 7 October 2023. Despite this uncertainty about the link between the film and what is happening in Gaza, viewers are sharing their thoughts on Reddit on the ways that the film has played a part in changing how they view what is taking place in Gaza.
