James Cameron blasts Christopher Nolan's ‘Oppenheimer' as ‘a moral cop out'
James Cameron recently called out Christopher Nolan's Oscar-winning film 'Oppenheimer' for being 'a moral cop out' in the topic of nuclear war.
Cameron, 70, spoke to Deadline about his plans to direct a film based on Charles Pellegrino's upcoming book 'Ghosts of Hiroshima' and was asked if he was surprised about the success of 'Oppenheimer.'

'It's interesting what he stayed away from,' Cameron said about Nolan, 54. 'I love the filmmaking, but I did feel that it was a bit of a moral cop out. Because it's not like Oppenheimer didn't know the effects.'

'Oppenheimer' won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and grossed nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The film follows theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) who helped develop the nuclear bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II.
Cameron told Deadline he took issue with the film's lack of depiction of the effects of the bombings.

'He's got one brief scene in the film where we see — and I don't like to criticize another filmmaker's film — but there's only one brief moment where he sees some charred bodies in the audience and then the film goes on to show how it deeply moved him,' said Cameron. 'But I felt that it dodged the subject.'

'I don't know whether the studio or Chris felt that that was a third rail that they didn't want to touch, but I want to go straight at the third rail,' the 'Avatar' director continued. 'I'm just stupid that way.'
Cameron also promised that his upcoming movie will tell the nuclear bomb victims' stories.

'Okay, I'll put up my hand. I'll do it, Chris. No problem,' Cameron stated. 'You come to my premiere and say nice things.'
The Post has reached out to Nolan's rep for comment.
Nolan previously addressed the criticism of not showing the Hiroshoma and Nagasaki bombings in 'Oppenheimer' in a 2023 interview with Variety.

'The film presents Oppenheimer's experience subjectively,' he explained. 'It was always my intention to rigidly stick to that. Oppenheimer heard about the bombing at the same time that the rest of the world did.'
'I wanted to show somebody who is starting to gain a clearer picture of the unintended consequences of his actions,' the 'Dark Knight' filmmaker added. 'It was as much about what I don't show as what I show.'

'I don't want to get into the politics of, should it have been dropped, should they have done it, and all the bad things Japan did to warrant it, or any of that kind of moralizing and politicizing,' he told Deadline.
'I just want to deal in a sense with what happened,' he added, 'almost as if you could somehow be there and survive and see it.'

Diogo Jota's family receives emotional vow from Liverpool's captain in tribute to late soccer star
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has vowed to 'always be there' for late teammate Diogo Jota's family after the Portuguese forward was killed in a fiery car crash earlier this week. In an emotional post shared Thursday on Instagram, a 'devastated' Van Dijk honored Jota, who perished in a car wreck early Thursday in Spain that also claimed the life of his younger brother, Andre Silva. 'Man, I can't believe it, I don't wanna believe it,' the 33-year-old captain began. 'Absolutely devastated and in total disbelief. 'For your family to lose two sons, a husband and a father is just unimaginable. So cruel and unfair. My heart is breaking for all of your beautiful family, for Rute and for your kids. I promise you that in these difficult times and beyond we will always be there for your family,' he expressed. 'A champion forever, number 20 forever. I visited Universal Studios and people were on their phones everywhere—even rollercoasters: That habit is 'really hard to break,' expert says
In May, my boyfriend and I spent a day at Universal Studios in Orlando. It was my first time at the park since I was 11. We drank butterbeer, ate a chocolate frog and popped into the Frying Dutchman in Springfield. We strolled through Hollywood's Walk of Fame, rode a boat and saw dinosaurs and visited E.T.'s home planet. It was epic. It was also sensory overload. Visiting Universal means attractions, activities, rides, junk food and people dressed up as characters all of the time, everywhere — it was very overwhelming. By the end of the day, my body was tired from all the walking and my brain was tired from processing. I couldn't imagine a more stimulating place, but it turns out that for many of my fellow park-goers it was not enough. Everywhere we went, people were on their phones. They were texting in the lazy river at the hotel and scrolling on the bus ride over to the park. People were even glued to their screens on the rides themselves, and no level of excitement could compete. When I got back from my trip, I reached out to Gloria Mark, professor of informatics at the University of California, Irvine, and author of "Attention Span," to find out why people just can't pull themselves away even at a place as stimulating as Universal Studios — and what it's doing to their experience. There are lots of reasons people turn to their phones at amusement parks. They could be taking photos or making videos to post on social media, they might be messaging with friends to share their experience or reading reviews of rides before getting in line. Whatever their reason, when people are on their phones, they are "not living the moment," Mark says. Instead of being present with their surroundings, they're present with their screen. And that's to their detriment. By not fully taking in their experience, they're robbing themselves of "what could be a tremendous amount of fun." I saw this firsthand on the Hogwarts Express. It's an immersive train ride where the story takes place on two sides of the train car. Two kids were bent over their phones the entire time. One man was even recording himself while on a rollercoaster. Not only are they missing out on the present, when people are not giving the moment their full attention, "they're not able to develop memories from their experience," Mark adds. Mark is not surprised this kind of thing happens. "Smartphones are an ingrained habit among people," she says, "not just young people, adults as well, and that's really hard to break." But there are ways to do it. Whether you're an adult fighting your own urges or a parent taking your kids on an adventure, "leave your phone in the hotel," she says, and have your kids do the same. They'll protest. But ultimately, they'll realize it lets them focus on what's directly in front of them. If you have to take your phone with you, say, because you're at a park abroad and need to be able to translate, make sure you're not scrolling aimlessly. Grabbing a phone can be an automatic response to boredom. Fight that urge. "You can develop willpower by probing yourself and asking questions like, 'do I really need to use my phone right now?'" she says.

‘90s heartthrob David Charvet reveals why he fled Hollywood after ‘Baywatch' fame
Life's a beach. Former 'Baywatch' star David Charvet walked away from Hollywood to work in construction — and has no regrets. 'I don't miss the fame,' Charvet, 53, told People. 'I don't miss the workload that we had because we used to work a lot, and it's very hard to raise a family that way. I commend all of the actors who have families that are able to balance that.' 9 David Charvet with Nicole Eggert in 'Baywatch.' The French born actor was on the show from 1992 to 1995, playing Matt Brody. 'I miss the camaraderie that I had with the people on the sets,' he told the outlet. 'I had old-school producers and old-school people that worked as a unit, and it was a real family.' In the 2017 'Baywatch' movie, Zac Efron played that character. 9 David Charvet in California in June 2025. WCP,4cnrs / BACKGRID After 'Baywatch,' Charvet was on 'Melrose Place' from 1996 to 1998. He also appeared on shows like 'Seduced and Betrayed' and the 2009 ABC reality show 'The Superstars' and briefly had a music career in France. 'The goal was when I got my children, when they were born, was that I was going to be hands-on. I promised Brooke that I would be that man,' he explained. 'I wouldn't change anything.' 'I have to say that what I've experienced with my kids and what I've experienced in the last 17 years has definitely made me a better man,' Charvet continued. '[It] has made me understand what it is to have real relationships and be able to treat people kindly and have more of a humble approach in life.' 'Baywatch' ran for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001. The show also starred David Hasselhoff, Jeremy Jackson, Yasmine Bleeth, the late Michael Newman and Nicole Eggert.
