Eighty-year-old retired policeman crashes car into Melaka eatery, hospitalised
Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the victim, Md Nor Md Shah, 80, suffered swelling on his head due to the accident, while part of the eatery's front porch collapsed in the 2.55pm incident.
'Investigations found that the senior citizen was travelling from Pulau Sebang to Taman Melaka Perdana when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.
'Fortunately, no customers were at the eatery at the time of the incident. The victim was taken to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment,' he said in a statement yesterday. — Bernama

Works minister denies viral RM26mil gratuity payment letter
KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has denied the authenticity of a letter dated July 28, 2025, which went viral on social media, purportedly from the ministry regarding a gratuity payment to an individual. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A man who managed to flee after a failed attempt to break into a house in Penang ended up being caught after he went back to retrieve a personal belonging he had left at the place. Barat Daya police chief Sazalee Adam said the incident at Batu Maung yesterday saw the suspect entering the house via the back door after the domestic worker went out to throw the trash. 'However, when he realised that the homeowner was around, he escaped. 'However, he later turned back and returned to the house. We believe he wanted to retrieve a personal belonging that he had left behind in his rush to escape. 'When he returned, he was successfully detained by the homeowner and some of his friends,' he said, according to Utusan Malaysia. The suspect was handed over to the police and will be remanded tomorrow. Sazalee said the suspect tested positive for drugs and has previous convictions for such offences.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A police investigation into claims by a PKR leader on unaudited contributions to a division found that the issue revolved around internal auditing, the home minister said. Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said it was also related to issues with the administration of the party. He said this in a written parliamentary reply to Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who wanted an update on an investigation into a viral video clip featuring a man believed to be the Wangsa Maju PKR division chief. In May, a video, which surfaced on several social media platforms, appears to show Wangsa Maju division chief Lai Chen Heng commenting on financial contributions to the division from a prominent businessman. He allegedly referred to them as 'unaudited funds' associated with a senior political leader. But Lai maintained that the clip had been selectively edited and circulated to smear his image. In April, he had denied claims that the division's 2024 financial statements had been manipulated. He said such claims were baseless and politically motivated, adding that the financial report presented during the division's annual general meeting on March 1 did not receive any objections.
