Boeing to replace CFO Brian West with ex-Lockheed finance head
Boeing announced on Monday that it will be replacing its Chief Financial Officer Brian West with Jesus "Jay" Malave, the former finance chief of Lockheed Martin. West will transition into the role of senior advisor to Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg. Malave has also been named as the incoming executive vice president. Both appointments will take effect on August 15. Boeing Chief Financial Officer Brian West
According to Bloomberg, this move represents the most high-profile leadership change since Ortberg assumed the CEO position at Boeing last year.
In a statement, the company said: 'Boeing today announced a transition in its chief financial officer role. Brian West will become a senior advisor to Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, and Jesus 'Jay' Malave has been elected as incoming executive vice president and chief financial officer. Both roles are effective August 15.'
West, who has served as CFO for the past four years, will continue supporting the company during the transition period, Boeing said. Known for his long-standing professional relationship with former Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun from their time at General Electric, West oversaw Boeing's finances during a turbulent period marked by supply chain and quality issues post-Covid. He played a crucial role in strengthening the company's cash flow, helping raise $24 billion through a near-record equity sale last year, and followed it up by managing the $10.6 billion sale of Jeppesen and other digital assets.
Ortberg acknowledged West's contributions, saying: "I want to personally thank Brian for his outstanding work navigating our recovery and positioning the company for the future. These past few years have been some of the most consequential in Boeing's history, and Brian successfully guided us through last year's historic capital raise and ensured our team always had the resources to continue the critical work to strengthen safety and quality across our operations. I look forward to his continued counsel in his new role."
As CFO, Malave will oversee Boeing's financial strategy, business planning, investor relations, treasury, controller and audit functions, along with Enterprise Services, which includes real estate and facilities. He will report directly to Ortberg and join the Executive Council.
Ortberg expressed confidence in the new appointment, stating: "Jay will become CFO at an important time in helping build Boeing's next chapter as we continue to make progress on our recovery and implement fundamental changes rooted in safety and quality. He is a well-respected financial and business leader, and brings decades of experience developing people and teams across complex aerospace and manufacturing businesses." Who is Jesus 'Jay' Malave?
Jesus "Jay" Malave previously served as the Chief Financial Officer of Lockheed Martin and, before that, held the role of senior vice president and CFO at L3Harris Technologies. He also spent over two decades at United Technologies Corporation, where he held key leadership roles, including vice president and CFO of Carrier Corporation (then part of UTC) and vice president and CFO at UTC Aerospace Systems.
Malave holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Connecticut, a master's in accounting from the University of Hartford, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
According to a statement from Lockheed Martin, Malave left the company just days before its April earnings call, informing them he was 'pursuing other opportunities.'
At Boeing, Malave will be responsible for overseeing financial strategy, long-term business planning, investor relations, treasury, controller and audit functions, as well as the division managing global real estate. He will report directly to CEO Kelly Ortberg and serve on the company's executive council. Boeing
Boeing is a global aerospace company and top US exporter, designs, builds, and supports commercial airplanes, defence systems, and space technologies, serving customers in over 150 countries.
Following the end of regular trading in New York, Boeing's stock rose by 0.3%, recovering from an earlier 2.3% decline. The stock is up 18% so far this year.
In latest developments, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg cancelled his scheduled appearance at the Paris Air Show – one of the aviation industry's key global events – to focus on the ongoing investigation into the recent Air India Dreamliner crash that happened on June 12. The tragic incident has reignited concerns around Boeing's aircraft safety and quality, even as the company had been rebuilding its reputation under Ortberg's leadership.
The crash occurred when a London-bound Air India 787 Dreamliner crashed into a residential neighbourhood in Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of at least 260 people, including those on board and on the ground.
This marks the first fatal crash involving Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, the company's flagship aircraft for long-haul flights.

India's per capita debt of individual borrower rises significantly over last two years: RBI Report
The per capita debt of individual borrowers in India has witnessed a sharp increase over the past two years, rising from ₹ 3.9 lakh in March 2023 to ₹ 4.8 lakh in March 2025, according to the financial stability report released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The report also flagged a concerning trend of increasing loan-to-value (LTV) ratios.(Pixabay) The report highlighted that this rise in debt levels has been primarily driven by higher-rated borrowers. RBI stated, "At an aggregate level, the per capita debt of individual borrowers has grown from ₹ 3.9 lakh in March 2023 to ₹ 4.8 lakh in March 2025". At an aggregate level, the growth in household debt has been supported by steady increases in housing loans, which formed 29.0 per cent of the total household debt as of March 2025. While the growth in housing loans has remained stable overall, a deeper look at the data shows that incremental growth is being led by existing borrowers. These borrowers are availing additional loans, and their share has increased to more than one-third of the total housing loans sanctioned in March 2025. The report also flagged a concerning trend of increasing loan-to-value (LTV) ratios. The share of borrower accounts with LTV ratios greater than 70 per cent is on the rise. Additionally, delinquency levels remain elevated among lower-rated and more heavily leveraged borrowers, though these levels have declined considerably compared to the period during the COVID-19 pandemic. India's household debt has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, mainly due to increased borrowing from the financial sector. However, as of end-December 2024, household debt stood at 41.9 per cent of GDP at current market prices, which is still relatively low when compared with other emerging market economies (EMEs). Among the broad categories of household debt, non-housing retail loans have taken the lead. These loans, which are primarily used for consumption purposes, accounted for 54.9 per cent of total household debt as of March 2025. They also represented 25.7 per cent of disposable income as of March 2024. The share of non-housing retail loans, like auto loans and loans for white goods has been rising steadily over the years, and their growth has outpaced that of housing loans as well as loans taken for agriculture and business purposes. The Central bank report highlighted the importance of monitoring household debt trends, particularly the shifts in borrower profiles and lending patterns, to ensure long-term financial stability.

SAS to buy 55 planes from Brazil's Embraer for $3.95 bn
Scandinavian carrier SAS said Tuesday that it would buy up to 55 aircraft from Brazilian manufacturer Embraer for 25 billion kroner ($3.95 billion). "We've signed a contract for 55 Embraer E195-E2" planes, chief executive Anko van der Werff told a press conference, adding that the company would buy 45 planes in a first step, with an option for 10 more. After years of financial struggles due in part to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on travel, the airline was placed under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2022 and embarked on a major cost-cutting plan. It completed its restructuring in August 2024. The first Embraer planes are expected to be delivered in 2027 and will mainly be used on routes in the Nordic region. Live Events "It's like a renaissance," Van der Werff said of the airline's biggest investment since 1996. The planes are considered more fuel efficient and quieter than those currently in the carrier's fleet. SAS's main owners are the Danish and Swedish states as well as Air France-KLM.

Keystone to redevelop Mumbai locality with Mhada, eyes GDV of Rs 4,521 cr
Keystone Realtors (Rustomjee Group) has got approval for its proposal to redevelop 25 buildings in GTB Nagar of Mumbai's Sion Koliwada that have a gross development value (GDV) of Rs 4,521 crore. Keystone will work on the project in collaboration with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), which gave a letter of approval (LoA) to the company. The redevelopment, spread across a plot area of 11.19 acres (45,308 square metres), will rehabilitate around 1,200 society members and unlock a saleable area of approximately 20.7 lakh square feet (sq ft) for Keystone. Constructed in 1958 for post-Independence migrants, the buildings in GTB Nagar were declared unsafe by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in 2020 and subsequently demolished. Residents had to seek alternative accommodation on their own. In response to appeals by tenant societies, the state government approved the redevelopment of the site through Mhada, despite the land being privately owned. The state cabinet, in a meeting held on February 14, 2024, approved the redevelopment proposal through the appointment of a construction and development agency under Regulation 33(9) of the Development Control and Promotion Regulations. A corresponding government resolution was issued on 23 February 2024, designating Mhada as the special planning authority for the execution of this project. Legal petitions related to this project had reached the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court. 'The Supreme Court's landmark judgement in this case has paved the way for Mhada to undertake similar projects in the future,' Mhada said. As per the proposal submitted by Mhada, a minimum floor space index (FSI) of 4.5 will be available, including fungible area. Each eligible family will receive a free home measuring 635 sq ft. Additionally, Mhada will receive 25,700 square metres of built-up space as housing stock. Until the project is completed, Mhada will provide a monthly rent of Rs 20,000 to the eligible tenants. Post-redevelopment, the state-owned agency will provide five years of maintenance charges. Boman Irani, chairman and managing director of Keystone Realtors, said: 'We are honoured to have received the LoA for the redevelopment of GTB Nagar in Sion, a project that carries the hopes of 1,200 society members and 200 slum residents. With over 1,400 families involved, this is among the largest redevelopment initiatives the city has seen, and we are privileged to be entrusted with this responsibility.' Recently, the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board, a unit of Mhada, issued a tender for the cluster redevelopment of Kamathipura in South Mumbai. Spread across 34 acres, it includes approximately 943 cess buildings in lanes 1 to 15, with around 6,625 residential and 1,376 non-residential tenants, totalling 8,001 occupants. Meanwhile, mega redevelopment projects such as the Dharavi slum redevelopment (by Adani Group), the BDD Chawl project in Worli (by a consortium led by Tata Projects), the Bharat Nagar project in Bandra (by Omkar Realtors & Developers, Forum Homes, HDIL, and others), and the Motilal Nagar project in Goregaon (by Adani Group) are underway in Mumbai.
