This Morning's Dermot O'Leary 'sad' as Alison Hammond bids farewell

Daily Mirror5 days ago
On Thursday's instalment of This Morning, ITV viewers saw Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary deliver the latest headlines.
This Morning's Alison Hammond announced during Thursday's episode that it was her final show before she enjoyed a summer break for the next few weeks.

Before the show ended, Alison and her co-host Dermot O'Leary gave each other a huge hug as she said, "See you in September, bye!"

However, her absence was addressed as the show kicked off, as Dermot told viewers he was sad, minutes into the episode.

When Alison asked why, he said, "I'm sad because it's your last day for the summer! I'm sad because I won't see you next week."
Alison replied, "Aw, not sad; be happy for me! Be happy." Dermot started handing Alison individual flowers from the set as she detailed her summer plans.

She added, "You know what? I'm going to have a little holiday. I'm going to do some housework. It's going to be great, and I'm going to be watching you on the telly."
The 50-year-old informed viewers that on Friday, people can watch Dermot co-host with Loose Women star Olivia Attwood.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the 34-year-old would be joining the roster of This Morning presenters for the summer while regular presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley are on a break.

Olivia announced her upcoming role on the show while being interviewed by Ben and Cat on This Morning.
She commented, "I'm going to be doing a couple of shows in the summer, I'm very excited to be joining you guys."

She added: "It's a huge honour. I've obviously grown up watching this show, and being part of the Daytime team with the Loose Women has been the best experience. This just feels like a very natural progression."
Ben and Cat have thrown their support behind Olivia, as they told the ITV star she'll do a 'brilliant' job in her new role.
Over the next few weeks, ITV viewers will see the likes of Rylan Clark, Sian Welby, Rochelle Humes, Craig Doyle, Emma Willis and Josie Gibson front This Morning.

One of TV's most popular newcomers returns to Emmerdale in early ITVX release

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX. Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) has returned to Emmerdale. We were first introduced to the teen earlier this year, when an episode of the ITV soap aired that revealed what happened to April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) while she was living on the streets. Dylan was one of the few people who looked out for April while she was homeless. Her time living rough ended when she was found by a member of the public and rushed to hospital. When Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) arrived, they learnt April had given birth to a stillborn baby girl. April then returned to Mill Cottage but because of this, she never got to say a proper goodbye to her friend. Dylan then made his way to the village in search of April a few weeks later. He lived with April for a little while as he attempted to get clean from drugs. However, due to the fact Marlon was very focused on rebuilding his relationship with his daughter, it felt like Dylan was getting in the way. It led him to planting drugs from the vets on Dylan, making it seem as though he had lied to April. Dylan then made a deal with Marlon, which saw him pay for rehab on the condition Dylan would not tell April the truth. During this story, many fans of the ITV soap grew to love Dylan, which meant plenty of them were thrilled to see him tuning into the latest episode. More Trending Dylan had been sneaking about in the village that morning and it didn't take April very long to find him. As they caught up, April smiled as she learnt that Dylan had turned his life around as a result of rehab, and was now living in Hotten. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? She was very pleased but as they parted ways, Dylan made his way to the Cricket Pavilion. He pulled his trouser leg up and attempted to nurse the injury he sustained yesterday, when he was stabbed by Kyle (Huey Quinn) during the barn break-in. The makeshift bed under Dylan confirms that he has lied to April, and sadly hasn't turned his life around. View More » So what's really going on with him? Coronation Street legend confirms return with tongue in cheek swipe at the show

Award-winning Coronation Street writer Jonathan Harvey has confirmed his return to the ITV soap. Having penned 331 episodes over more than two decades, he announced in September that his final episodes were due to air. 'I took a step back from writing Corrie back in April,' he wrote at the time. 'After 20 years I wanted a break! The way the show works means I still have 2 episodes to air. Penultimate one is tonight and I'm v proud of it.' Fans were quick to tell him to 'hurry back', with another commenting that Jonathan is 'one of the most talented writers on that team.' Starting his career as a secondary school teacher, before branching off as a playwright in 1987, one of his most notable pieces is Beautiful Thing, a story following two gay teenagers that live next-door to each other on a London social housing estate. It was later adapted for screen in 1996, with future soapstars Linda Henry and Tameka Empson taking on lead roles many years before appearing as Shirley Carter and Kim Fox in EastEnders. He found later success with BBC sitcom Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, which starred Kathy Burke. Jonathan couldn't help but poke at the soap's recent reliance on police and hospital scenes, writing: 'My first episode of Corrie since I came back will air soon. 'Dev and Bernie's wedding! But this being modern day Corrie it wouldn't be a proper episode without the arrival some blue lights.'
