'Gifted' Mulholland Drive singer Rebekah Del Rio dies aged 57

Metro2 days ago

Rebekah Del Rio has died aged 57.
The singer songwriter – who made a brief but memorable appearance in David Lynch's iconic 2001 movie Mulholland Drive – passed away on Monday (June 23) at her home in Los Angeles.
Her nephew Dan Coronado confirmed the tragic news on Facebook, as he wrote: 'Just found out my Tia Becky passed away, and we literally just saw her on Father's Day.
'So grateful the kids got to hear her sing, and also that I didn't listen to her and secretly recorded the moment.'
He paid tribute to her 'God-given talent' for music and thanked his late aunt for sharing her 'gift'.
He added in his tearful post: 'Her most famous song is titled Llorando which is named after Roy Orbison's song Crying which I'm doing right now as I type this out.
'Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world Tia. We love you.' More Trending
Her Spanish version of Crying appeared in an iconic scene in Mulholland Drive.
She is singing live at Club Silencio, but her character's voice can still be heard even after she faints and drops to the floor.
She previously revealed that despite the version in the film being a secret recording from her first meeting with Lynch, who died aged 78 earlier this year, she had sung along each take.
She told IndieWire: 'There were many takes. And with every take, I sang along, because I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it.'

John Travolta reprises iconic Grease role 46 years after the original

A Grease comeback in 2025 was not on our bingo cards, but we are hopelessly devoted to his new look. John Travolta left fans speechless at the Hollywood Bowl last night by bringing back his classic Danny Zuko get-up. The signature slicked-back quiff and leather jacket were back on the stage for a surprise Grease sing-along gig. Travolta, now 71, appeared spontaneously on stage to roaring applause at the La La Land outdoor event celebrating the 1978 musical comedy. Surprising not only fans but also his former Grease co‑stars who were in attendance – the audience went wild when Travolta emerged as Danny. The audience wasn't the only ones in complete shock, Travolta kept his surprise show a secret from the Grease cast: Barry Pearl, Michael Tucci, Kelly Ward, Didi Conn and even director Randal Kleiser were not in the know. Travolta himself later confirmed on Instagram that 'no one knew' about the surprise appearance, not even his on‑screen pals. Once on stage, Travolta dropped into character, joking in true Zuko style: 'L.A., I thought you were going back to Australia? That's cool, that's cool, baby…' He went on to lead the cast into a heartwarming chorus of We Go Together before closing the unforgettable show with the line, 'Enjoy the show, we love you!' Travolta's return to the role echoes a similar reunion from 2019, when he and the late Olivia Newton‑John, who died in 2022, surprised fans at a Florida sing‑along, both clad in full Danny and Sandy gear. Fans adored the moment when Travolta picked up his high-quality Zuko wig. Travolta said at the time he found the 50s-style hairdo suited him better than his own bald look, and this year's Hollywood Bowl appearance gave the fans the nostalgia they were craving. The 2019 event also marked a reunion with Newton‑John, who cherished the time spent reliving their iconic Grease roles on stage together. Newton‑John later reflected that the energy was incredible, saying: 'That movie is still loved … the excitement from the people, it was amazing'. More Trending Her infamous leather jacket from the final scene of the 1970s classic was auctioned off, with all proceeds going to her cancer wellness foundation. As for Travolta, he proved last night that Zuko can still light up a summer night, just like he did in 1978. Whether the wig is rollers for Edna Turnblad or covered in gel for Zuko, the actor remains one of the best showmen of all time. And as the Hollywood Bowl event showed, with a quiff, a leather jacket and a wink, Travolta has very much still got it. Got a story? Emma Raducanu breaks silence on Carlos Alcaraz romance rumours with four-word response

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Emma Raducanu has chuckled at the chatter of a budding romance with Carlos Alcaraz as Wimbledon looms. The British starlet is set to partner with Alcaraz for mixed doubles at the US Open this year, sparking whispers of a love link-up. The UK's leading lady is gearing up to take on teen wildcard Mimi Xu in Wimbledon's first round come Monday. Currently ranked 38th globally, she's homing in on the clash following her stint at Eastbourne. Still, she found herself fielding speculation about Alcaraz during her pre-tournament press briefing in SW19. Having been chums with the Spanish sensation for a good four years, Raducanu was seen hitting balls with him at Wimbledon on Friday. When quizzed about whether tactics for the US Open came up, she said: "No, it was fun yesterday. We were both on court with (water brand) Evian. "Yeah, we were just getting some volley practicing ahead of New York. Yeah, I'm really happy obviously to be playing with him. Yeah, we had a good time yesterday.", reports the Mirror. Predictably, the press conference turned to the topic she likely anticipated. On probing whether there's any truth to the romantic links, Raducanu responded with a beam, asserting: "We're just good friends." With that, the interview moderator intervened, closing down the query session, to which Raducanu mirthfully remarked: "Way to wrap up!". Raducanu and Alcaraz, both 22 years old, have formed a friendship over the years. Raducanu recently shared the story of how they became close, saying: "I've known him for years and actually in Wimbledon 2021, it was like kind of the first time I started getting to know him, and I had a good run there and then also again in the US Open in 2021." She recalled how Alcaraz's victories would motivate her to win her own matches, which often took place a day later. "And I remember he was always playing the day before me and I was playing like the second day of the round. And I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too." Raducanu also remembered Alcaraz's breakthrough win against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round, calling it a "And I remember he beat Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round and it was like a big win, his breakout kind of win on a big stage and it was really cool to kind of, I guess, go through that tournament together and then I kept going through the US Open, but we were staying in touch for the whole time and yeah, it's nice." on a major stage. She cherished the experience of going through the US Open together and staying in touch throughout the tournament. Their friendship has endured despite Alcaraz's rapid rise to success. Raducanu said: "We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago." She emphasized the value of connections made at a young age, especially as fame and success can lead to new, but less genuine, relationships. "I think for all of us, we really kind of value those connections that we had from when we were young because when you become a bit more known or a bit more successful, you just find yourself reverting back to people you knew from a young age because you're like, that's a real genuine connection, because it becomes very busy and you have a lot more friends but the ones that you've known for a long time mean a lot more to you."
