Devil Wears Prada sequel filming is FINALLY underway with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci confirmed to return - as surprise name joins the cast
Filming for the long-awaited Devil Wears Prada sequel is finally underway, with an Oscar-winning actor set to join the stellar cast alongside returning stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
Four-time BAFTA winner Kenneth Branagh, 64, will reportedly play the husband of ice queen fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly, according to Deadline.
The Harry Potter star will be part of the 20th Century Studios production which is set to be released on May 1 of next year.
The British actor has won an Academy Award, four BAFTAs, two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Olivier Award - and is known for his roles in the likes of Thor and Dunkirk.
The upcoming sequel will follow Meryl's iconic character as she navigates the challenges of the declining print magazine industry.
She will also be facing off against Emily's character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs, per Variety.
This comes after news broke last year that a sequel to the 2006 comedy drama that originally starred the Mamma Mia actress, Anne, 42, and Emily, 42, was greenlit at Disney.
Last year, the three actresses reunited onstage at the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards in February 2024 for a skit based on their blockbuster hit movie.
Only Streep and Blunt are confirmed to be returning for the follow-up film, which is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
With the storyline and release date finally unveiled, fans are sharing their mixed reactions.
Last July, it was reported that Meryl would be returning alongside Emily, but no other cast members have been officially confirmed yet.
Stanley Tucci, who starred in the original movie, also mentioned the forthcoming sequel but did not disclose whether or not he would be reprising his role.
'I know they're working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I'll go to the actor's prison or something,' he told Variety in January.
'[The original] was one of the best experiences ever,' he added.
About the movie, which comes two decades after the first, many fans shared their excitement as they praised the 'realistic' plot line.
However, others slammed the idea of making another movie to follow up the beloved movie as they criticised lazy sequels.
The Devil Wears Prada, the original 2006 movie, was based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel about a young journalist's nightmarish experience working at a fashion magazine.

Monsters of California review – three friends search for one's missing father in sci-fi slacker paranormal comedy
Blink-182's Tom DeLonge directs and co-writes this sci-fi slacker comedy which sees a trio of stoner wastrels hoping to investigate what happened to the father of one of their number, who mysteriously disappeared many years ago and is presumed dead. It's a slightly frustrating experience, because the film has got loads going for it but could be just that little bit better. So many of the ingredients are right: it's nicely shot and directed, and the casting feels on point – it's not so much that you buy these evidently non-teenage actors as teenagers, but that their presence is part of a noble tradition of adults playing teens in films. It's as cosily familiar to anyone who came of age in the 1990s as baggy skate trousers and a band hoodie. This sense of cultural time capsule extends to the characters themselves: they feel like 90s teenagers rather than modern-day ones, and that's presumably a bonus for anyone drawn hither by DeLonge's status as guitarist and singer for one of the more enduring bands of the pop punk explosion of that decade. These kids are crude and puerile, and it's somehow fun to see the American Pie-type kid in a contemporary setting; certainly anyone with a fondness for that particular type of high school movie will inhale a pleasant hit of nostalgia without having to think too hard about whether there's much value here. Where the film struggles is plot and structure, with events alternating between meandering and slightly overdetermined. The big tonal shifts are not necessarily a problem per se – it ought to be perfectly possible for a film to sustain childlike awe and wonder at the magic of the universe and also have a scene where a man gets apparently pissed on by Bigfoot – but there are some bumpy transitions between the different modes. It's the sort of film that spends its rather too long runtime trying to be Stranger Things at some points, and at others is more closely aligned with Jackass, when it really ought to be a tighter, more casual affair. Monsters of California is on digital platforms from 7 July

The Devil Wears Prada confirms sequel - but this key character won't return
Iconic film The Devil Wears Prada is in the works for a second sequel after almost 20 years, but a famous face won't be returning as part of the star-studded cast. After years of speculation and some hints in between, it has finally been confirmed. The Devil Wears Prada will have a second sequel, but a controversial character won't be returning. A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is on its way after almost two decades since its debut. The happy news was shared by 20th Century Studios, who surprised viewers by also saying that production had already begun. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the famous cast will consist of Hollywood and returning stars, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Of course, the storyline will be directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna. However, one face that won't be reprising his role is Adrian Grenier. Grenier portrayed Nate Cooper in the 2006 film, Andy Sachs' (Anna Hathaway) boyfriend from university. At the beginning of the film, both were portrayed as a happy couple with professional careers, Andy as a journalist at Runway magazine under Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Nate as a sous chef. Throughout the film, his relationship with Andy became tricky as her career took off, creating a few fights as well as a temporary breakup, following her late arrival at his birthday celebration. Even though the couple ended up reconciling, viewers labelled Nate's character as the 'true villain' for his lack of support. Towards the end of the film, the couple goes their separate ways, as Andy pursues her career in New York, and Nate takes a job in Boston. Fans expressed their excitement amid the sequel news. Some were happy that Nate's character wouldn't interfere with Andy's career, but others were hoping he would make a return. A fan commented: 'The real villain of the film. Jarlsberg was more important to him than Andy.' A second one, added: 'Good, and he can take his burnt grilled cheese with him.' Another viewer wrote on X: 'Nate never was the real villain in devil wears prada and if you think he was, you completely missed the point of the story.' 'Nate Cooper will be missed in 'THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2'. Adrian Grenier's character was special in the film, the fun will be incomplete without him!' During the cast's 2021 reunion, Grenier spoke about his character being considered the villain of the story. He said: 'All those memes that came out were shocking to me. It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it, and perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved, it was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career.' 'At the end of the day, it's just a birthday, right? It's not the end of the world,' he added. The actor explained that he didn't realise how immature his actions were until he came much older and had 'time to reflect and much deliberation.' The 2006 film was adapted from former Vogue assistant Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name. She worked for Anna Wintour, Vogue's former Editor-in-Chief, who recently stepped down from her position in the iconic magazine after 37 years. A release date is yet to be announced. However, according to the reports, the movie is expected to be released in 2026.

A$AP Rocky drops huge hint third child with Rihanna is a girl
A$AP Rocky and Rihanna are expecting their third child. The couple confirmed the news at the Met Gala in May. They have two sons, RZA and Riot. During the world premiere for the movie Smurfs, A$AP Rocky hinted at the gender of their upcoming baby, initially responding "It is, man, it is" when asked if it was the girl he'd been waiting for. He quickly redirected the conversation by pointing to a Smurfette toy and later dodged the question when pressed by the reporter. A$AP Rocky previously confirmed on Seth Meyers' talk show that their third child will continue the family tradition of having a name beginning with "R." The couple's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, humorously claimed Rihanna and Rocky joked about naming their next baby "A$AP Joe" after his acquittal in a felony assault case.
