Kaizer Chiefs delaying another announcement
Despite his confirmed departure behind the scenes, Kaizer Chiefs have remained publicly silent, mirroring the pattern seen with recent exits like Bongani Sam and Tebogo Potsane — both of whom left weeks before the club formally acknowledged their departures.
The Venezuelan international joined Amakhosi ahead of the 2023/24 season and quickly became a fan favourite with his high work rate and ability to arrive in the box to score.

Despite his quality, the 31-year-old missed a chunk of last season out injured. With coach Nasreddine Nabi actively searching for foreign players to become regular starters, Castillo had to make way.
While there may be internal reasons for Kaizer Chiefs' timing of announcements — such as pending negotiations or legal formalities — the lack of clear communication continues to fuel speculation and confusion.
Until Amakhosi breaks its silence, Castillo's departure remains unofficial in public terms — but within football circles, it's already a done deal. Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo playing against Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership. Image: Sowetan Sabelo Radebe – central midfielder

Orlando Pirates crush Polokwane to secure MTN8 semi-final spot
Orlando Pirates kicked off the 2025/2026 season in style by cruising to a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-finals at a buzzing Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Abdeslam Ouaddou, leading the Buccaneers for the first time, made bold choices with his starting line-up, fielding Bandile Shandu at right-back, Boitumelo Radiopane in attack, and handing three new signings their debuts in midfield. Sihle Nduli, Sipho Mbule, and Oswin Appollis. The tactical gamble paid off immediately. Oswin Appollis, fresh from a surprise off-season switch from Polokwane, punished his former side with a composed finish in the 14th minute. The move that led to the opener showcased quick interplay between Mbule, Nduli, and Radiopane, before Appollis coolly slotted past Brian Mwire to send the home fans into early celebrations. Just past the half-hour mark, Appollis again made headlines, this time by winning a penalty after being brought down in the area. Patrick 'Tito' Maswanganyi calmly converted from the spot to double the lead and ignited scenes of joy. Ouaddou's charges controlled the match with authority, allowing Polokwane only fleeting chances on the counter, all of which the Pirates defence managed well. In the second half, Appollis continued to torment his former teammates but eventually left the field with cramps. Tshepang Moremi replaced him, also making his debut. He joined fellow debutants Yanela Mbuthuma and Abdoulaye Mariko in a second-half showing that underlined Pirates' squad depth. With this convincing win, Orlando Pirates advanced to the MTN8 semi-finals. The draw for the next round will take place soon, with the ties set to be played over two legs. As seven players, including the coach, marked their official debuts, the signs are clear. Ouaddou's Orlando Pirates are not here to play it safe. They've come to dominate. Kaizer Chiefs' defining 2025/26 season: Will they rebuild or regress?
The 2025/26 season has officially kicked off, with the MTN8 taking centre stage this weekend. The top eight teams from last season are looking to begin their campaigns on a high note, with early silverware up for grabs. However, for the second season running, one of South African football's biggest names — Kaizer Chiefs — will once again watch from the sidelines after narrowly missing out on a top-eight finish, ending the last campaign in ninth position. Chiefs, however, ended last season on a positive note, lifting the Nedbank Cup. That triumph not only secured them a return to continental football via the CAF Confederation Cup, but also reignited belief within the club heading into this campaign. Expectations are high for the new season — at the very least, a top-eight finish is non-negotiable. The squad rebuild under new coach Nasreddine Nabi now moves into a critical phase, where visible improvement and consistency must replace last season's instability. Much of their previous struggles were self-inflicted. Defensive lapses, an inability to hold onto leads, and poor execution in key moments proved costly. Injuries, particularly at the back, also disrupted their campaign. But with the injection of new talent and a fresh sense of direction, there is renewed hope that this season could mark a turning point.

PUMA South Africa and leisurewear brand Old School have collaborated to present Vodacom Bulls supporters with two limited edition jerseys honouring the legacy of their beloved team. THE STORY BEHIND THE JERSEY The campaign video to support the launch of the jerseys, has a cinematic aesthetic. It features current players, team legends and fans with a strong focus on character and storytelling, where the team's proud history lingers in every detail. It's authentic, it's powerful, and it's unmistakably Vodacom Bulls. We're proud to stand behind a campaign that connects generations and strengthens the bond with our fans.' 'For us, it's always been about creating something people feel part of. Teaming up with the Blue Bulls and PUMA gave us the chance to do just that, to create something that brings generations together,' said co- founder of Old School, Stephan Steinmann. 'This collaboration isn't just about a jersey; it's about the pride, the memories, and the moments that make supporting the Bulls feel like home.'
