French doctor handed 10-year jail term for abusing patients
Thirty women filed complaints against the gynaecologist, in his 60s, accusing him of sexual assault during medical exams.
The Haute-Savoie Court in eastern France found him guilty on Saturday of raping nine of the plaintiffs, said lawyer, Aurelie Zakar.
Four of the plaintiffs accused the gynaecologist of penetration with his genitals, while others complained of unjustified rectal exams and "vaginal massages" that they said the doctor presented as medically necessary.
"The penetration suffered during consultations was not medical in nature and was, in fact, sexualised," said Zakar.
"My three clients have been recognised as victims, they have been heard and believed. They can now rebuild their lives," she said.
The doctor, from the eastern town of Bonneville, has denied all allegations.
The debate was particularly "heated on the notion of intent", said a lawyer for three other plaintiffs, including two women who were minors at the time.
The defendant presented the acts "as justified or never having happened," said Patricia Lyonnaz, adding that all the victims came to testify at the trial.
"These are not women seeking revenge," said Lyonnaz.
The defendant has 10 days to appeal.

Santa Fe man arrested, accused of raping family member
A Santa Fe man was arrested early Saturday morning and is being accused of sexually assaulted a relative. Santa Fe police went to the Camino Real apartment complex at 3481 Todos Santos St. around 2:50 a.m. in response to a call from the 16-year-old, who told police she had gone to the apartments to watch the Independence Day fireworks show with Johnny Madrid, 26, his spouse and his two children, according to a police report. The report alleges Madrid gave the girl alcohol and raped her after his children and spouse went to sleep. The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment and a sexual assault exam and told police he was still in the apartment. The report states Madrid finally came to the door with his spouse and a small child after a "long period of time" of police announcements with a public-address system and sirens. Madrid is being charged with second-degree criminal sexual penetration, tampering with evidence, bribery of a witness, contributing to a delinquency of a minor and resisting, evading and obstructing an officer. He was booked into Santa Fe County jail and is being held without bond, jail booking records indicate.

A man is facing serious charges after he confessed to attacking and raping a woman in Miami-Dade County parking lot this week, the sheriff's office said. According to jail records obtained by CBS News Miami, 41-year-old Daysnel Hernandez was arrested and booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Saturday morning. Hernandez is facing multiple charges, including armed kidnapping, sexual battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is also facing charges from another unrelated incident, which include armed burglary and attempted second-degree murder. CBS News Miami has not confirmed the details surrounding the second incident. Rape in Miami-Dade County On Thursday, MDSO began investigating a sexual assault assault case in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. According to the arrest documents, the victim told investigators that she exited her vehicle in a parking lot in the area of 777 NW 72nd Ave. when Hernandez allegedly struck her in the back of her head with a large rock. She continued, saying that he then allegedly covered her mouth as he held a screwdriver against her neck and dragged her into a secluded area. Hernandez then allegedly proceeded to punch the victim "multiple times" as she tried to escape before he sexually assaulted her while he was still armed with the screwdriver, the arrest documents said. "The victim begged [Hernandez] not to kill her because she was in fear for her life," the arrest documents said. The victim then told investigators that Hernandez then ran away toward the parking lot, leaving her with multiple lacerations, abrasions and contusions throughout her body. Later, MDSO learned that Hernandez was taken into custody by Doral Police for an unrelated incident, where after being read his Miranda rights, he confessed to "raping" the victim and corroborated with her statement, the arrest documents said.
