It also enhances their opportunities to work in government and government-related sectors across the GCC and the MENA region. We are grateful to the CAA for their collaborative approach in supporting our efforts,' she added.
Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA)
The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) is an agency under the UAE federal government responsible for quality assurance in the higher education sector. Its aim is to assure students, their families, employers, and other stakeholders that licensed educational institutions and their programs meet academic quality standards aligned with international best practices. Moreover, the accreditation of programs reaffirms Heriot-Watt University Dubai's commitment to delivering high-quality British education to students in the region, following its initial institutional licensure from the UAE Ministry of Education in 2023.
Pioneer in Dubai's Academic City
In the United Arab Emirates, Heriot-Watt University Dubai was the first British university to establish a campus in Dubai's Academic City. Additionally, it began its educational journey with three programs and 120 students. Today, it hosts over 5,000 students and is recognized as one of the top British universities in Dubai, known for its focus on business management and its extensive network within the industry. The university continues to prepare its students by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and practical experiences required by the job market, aiming to enable them to achieve excellence in their careers at both regional and international levels.

Saudi Deputy Minister highlights UK investment potential in education at IPSEF London 2025
LONDON — Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Hajri, Deputy Minister of Education for Saudi Arabia, showcased the Kingdom's robust education investment opportunities during his participation at the International and Private Schools Education Forum (IPSEF) in London on Wednesday, underscoring the deepening Saudi-UK educational partnership. In his keynote speech, Al-Hajri emphasized the Kingdom's ambitious Vision 2030 goals, detailing the regulatory reforms and government support mechanisms designed to attract foreign investment and strengthen private sector participation in Saudi Arabia's education landscape. He specifically invited British and international education providers to establish and operate schools in the Kingdom through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and land allocation schemes. 'We are seeing growing momentum from UK-based education institutions and school operators eager to expand into the Saudi market,' Al-Hajri stated. 'Our education transformation is backed by regulatory reform, strong demand, and government commitment—creating a fertile environment for global investors and partners.' On the sidelines of the event, Al-Hajri held a series of bilateral meetings with leading UK school groups and educational institutions to explore models for operating in the Kingdom, including licensing, investor facilitation, and regulatory navigation. Saudi Arabia, home to a population where over 60% are under the age of 30, is witnessing rising demand for quality education options particularly in underserved regions. The government aims to raise the private sector's contribution to education from 16% to 25% by 2030. This objective is driving the development of a comprehensive ecosystem that includes streamlined procedures, dedicated support services, and designated land for international education projects. The Ministry's participation at IPSEF London 2025 reaffirms Saudi Arabia's long-standing educational ties with the UK. British curricula remain among the most popular offerings within the Kingdom's growing private education sector, especially across K-12 and international school segments. The Deputy Minister noted that the government is committed to building an attractive, transparent, and investor-friendly environment. The Ministry continues to publish detailed investor guides, implement regulatory clarity measures, and offer a proactive approach to supporting new educational entrants into the Saudi market. — SG

BBC rolls out paid subscriptions for US users
LONDON: The BBC is rolling out paid subscriptions in the United States, it said on Thursday, as the publicly-funded broadcaster explores new revenue streams amid negotiations with the British government over its funding. The BBC has in recent years seen a fall in the number of people paying the license fee, a charge of 174.50 pounds ($239.76) a year levied on all households who watch live TV, as viewers have turned to more content online. From Thursday, frequent US visitors to the BBC's news website will have to pay $49.99 per year or $8.99 per month for unlimited access to news articles, feature stories, and a 24-hour livestream of its news programs. While its services will remain free to British users as part of its public service remit, its news website operates commercially and reaches 139 million users worldwide, including nearly 60 million in the US The new pay model uses an engagement-based system, the corporation said in a statement, allowing casual readers to access free content. 'Over the next few months, as we test and learn more about audience needs and habits, additional long-form factual content will be added to the offer for paying users,' said Rebecca Glashow, CEO of BBC Global Media & Streaming. The British government said last November it would review the BBC's Royal Charter, which sets out the broadcaster's terms and funding model, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable and fair system beyond 2027. To give the corporation financial certainty up to then, the government said it was committed to keeping the license in its current form and would lift the fee in line with inflation.

Meta Signs Deals to Source More Solar, Wind Power for Data Centers
Renewable energy developer Invenergy and social media giant Meta Platforms have signed four deals to supply 791 megawatts (MW) more of solar and wind power to operate data centers, the companies said on Thursday. This is the latest in a string of deals by Meta to meet the surging power demand of its data centers needed for artificial intelligence technologies using clean energy, Reuters reported. Last year, Meta had signed four contracts with the Chicago-based Invenergy for 760 MW of solar electricity. Invenergy said Thursday's deals bring the companies' total partnership to 1,800 MW. Meta has previously announced deals with several large solar projects, a geothermal startup, and is also seeking proposals from nuclear power developers. The electricity from Invenergy's solar and wind projects in Ohio, Arkansas and Texas will be delivered to the local grid, while Meta will receive the clean energy credits associated with the new generation capacity coming online, the energy company said. The companies did not disclose the financial details of the deals.
