Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp to reunite with Robert Eggers on Werwulf

Yahoo16-07-2025
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp are reportedly set to reunite with their Nosferatu director Robert Eggers for his new movie Werwulf.
The British actor is set to star in the werewolf horror film, while Rose-Depp is in talks to join him, according to reports.
The duo previously worked with Eggers on the 2024 Gothic vampire horror Nosferatu. Rose-Depp had the lead role as Ellen Hutter, a woman with a psychic connection with the vampire, and Taylor-Johnson played Friedrich Harding, the husband of Ellen's best friend.
Eggers will direct the upcoming horror from a script he co-wrote with Icelandic novelist and poet Sjón, with whom he wrote his 2022 Viking epic The Northman.
Werwulf, which is slated to open in U.S. cinemas on Christmas Day next year, is set in 13th-century England and features Old English dialogue.
Earlier this year, Eggers teased the film during a Q&A, saying, "It's a medieval werewolf movie. And it's also the darkest thing I've ever written. By far."
That is a big claim, considering Eggers' previous films - including The Witch and The Lighthouse - have all been rather dark.
Taylor-Johnson, who remains the frontrunner to take over the coveted role of James Bond from Daniel Craig, was most recently seen in Danny Boyle's zombie horror 28 Years Later. His upcoming projects include the thrillers Fuze and Blood on Snow.
Meanwhile, Depp was added to the cast of the alien invasion comedy Alpha Gang alongside Chris Pine and Kelvin Harrison Jr. earlier this week. They join previously announced stars Cate Blanchett, Léa Seydoux, Dave Bautista, and Riley Keough.

Horror Hit '28 Years Later' New On Streaming This Week, Report Says

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Alfie Williams in "28 Years Later." Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodi Comer and Ralph Fiennes' hit horror thriller 28 Years Later is reportedly coming to digital streaming this week. The third film in the horror film series that began with 28 Days Later in 2002, 28 Years Later reunites the original film's director, Danny Boyle, and its screenwriter, Alex Garland. The film was released in theaters on June 20. The summary for 28 Years Later reads, 'It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. 'When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.' According to When to Stream, 28 Years Later is expected to debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 29. While the streaming tracker is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, When to Stream noted that 28 Years Later Sony Pictures Entertainment has not announced or confirmed the release date and it is subject to change. When it is released, 28 Years Later will be available on several digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Prime Video currently has 28 Years Later listed for pre-order for $24.99, which is also the film's purchase price on PVOD. Since PVOD rentals typically run $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent 28 Years Later for $19.99 for a 48-hour period. The film is still playing in theaters. So far, 28 Years Later has earned $70 million domestically and $80 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $150 million. The film had a $60 million production before prints and advertising costs, per The Numbers. Danny Boyle Says '28 Years Later' Is Not A Zombie Film While those who have the Rage Virus in 28 Years Later have zombie-like qualities, Danny Boyle insisted in an interview with TIME Magazine before the film's release in theaters that the antagonists are not zombies. 'We had this thing about, 'No, they're not zombies. They're infected,'' Boyle told TIME. 'We wanted them to behave in a different way physically, but they also weren't undead. They could die and they will die, but so will you if they catch you.' In 28 Years Later, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character, Jamie, takes his 12-year-old son, Spike (Alfie Williams), to the mainland where the infected roam over the objections of his wife and the boy's mother, Isla (Jodie Comer). The trip to the mainland is a rite of passage where the younger people sheltered by their island community learn to hunt the infected. Bold told TIME that part of the storyline was influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. 'When COVID first happened, we wore gloves, we disinfected groceries,' Boyle told TIME. 'But gradually over time, you start taking more risks. You don't stay in that super alert stage. You evolve. And so it is in 28 Years. They begin to take risks. Jamie takes his 12-year-old son to the mainland even though, as the mom says, that's f---ing crazy.' Rated R, 28 Years Later — which is executive produced by 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy — is expected to arrive on PVOD on Tuesday.

‘Alien: Earth' Screens Blockbuster First Episode at Comic-Con

The upcoming Alien television series crash landed into Comic-Con with a blockbuster Hall H panel that got thousands of geeks sitting on the edge of their seats to an encroaching otherworldly horror. Alien: Earth, the FX series based on the classic 20th Century Studios science fiction horror movies, saw its first episode play on a giant screen in front of over 6,500 fans ahead of the show's premiere on FX and Hulu on Aug. 12. It was an ear-splitting, body-shaking experience that showcased epic moments, intimate moments and icky moments. 'But I made it like I make everything else: By hand, and love for you.' The series is ostensibly about a crashed spacecraft that brings the dreaded Alien xenomorph to Earth. But as expected, in Hawley's hands, there is much more going on. There are themese of humanity's quest for immortality, the greed of corporations (and inter-corporate warfare) and sibling love. Sydney Chandler plays a young woman named Wendy who is a first of her kind hybrid, a humanoid robot infused with human consciousness made by one of the mega-corporations who run the world. When a research starship owned by another mega-corporation crashes in a Southeast Asian metropolis, the childlike Wendy leads a rescue mission in order to find her brother. Unbeknownst to all, a xenomorph is on the ship… and so are a bunch of brand new alien creatures. 'Each hour has to have its horror elements but it has to be a drama,' explained Hawley. 'It has to be a character journey and be themactically rich. You have to worry that I may kill one of these people. I just might.' Timothy Olyphant, who plays a father figure of sorts to Chandler's characters, concurred, adding that by the time audiences gets four episodes in, it will be the character moments they will remember. But let's get back to the new creatures. Hawley said that the idea behind that was creating new feelings of 'genetic revulsion.' 'The one feeling you can't get back is the discovery of the life cycle of this creature (we all know so well now),' he said. 'How every step along the way is worse than the step before.' That said, there is plenty of xenomorph action. And it was mostly practical effects. The xenomorph was a man in a suit, not CG. 'I almost peed,' Chandler said when she saw him on set for the first time. Alien: Earth has a strong presence at Comic-Con as it also has an elaborate activation on the grounds of the convention center and nearby hotel. The interactive site allows guests to visit the crash site of the space ship holding the alien specimens and even allows for 'missions' in the evening as well as giveaways.
