Paul Walter Hauser and Lili Reinhart to lead comedy thriller The Very Best People
The 38-year-old actor and the 'Riverdale' star, 28, will lead Brian Swibel's upcoming film in what will be his directorial debut alongside Tim Roth, Jake Lacey, Jai Courtney and Kerry Bishe.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, Deadline reports 'The Very Best People' will be based on John Lavelle's stage play of the same name, and is due to enter production in New York on 22 May.
Set in a Staten Island pub, 'The Very Best People' follows two childhood friends who, after the mysterious shooting of a disgraced NYPD detective, embark on a misguided mission for redemption.
Armed with conspiracy theories and a warped sense of patriotism, they plot to confront the so-called 'Deep State', leading to a series of absurd and violent events, including a light-hearted kidnapping.
Lavelle is also due to write the movie's script alongside 'Blades of Glory' scribe Craig Cox.
'The Very Best People' will be produced by Brent Emery, Justin Klosky, Alex Peace-Power, Tara Smith and Bita Khorrami for Swibel's Triptyk Studios alongside Bonnie Timmermann.
Meanwhile, Hauser, Reinhart, Dan Reardon and Lisa Wolofsky will serve as executive producers.
Hauser will be seen in this summer's Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps', where he will star opposite Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in an undisclosed role.
The 'Black Bird' star previously teased the superhero film would usher in 'a new tide of successful storytelling' in the MCU.
Speaking with TheDirect, he said: 'So I think our movie, 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps', to me, only speaking from my opinion, everything I witnessed and took part in, everything I felt while in the presence of the creatives on the film, I believe we are the Marvel movie of the year.
'I believe we are the one to watch.'
The actor added 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' would 'hit', and compared it to previous successful Marvel movies like 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Black Panther'.
He said: 'I believe that this will go down in history as one of the ones that started a new tide of successful storytelling for the company.
'Sort of in the same way the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Black Panther' hit. They both hit in a certain way. I believe we are about to hit.'
Hauser also teased 'Fantastic Four: The First Steps' was 'a smart, chic Marvel movie' that revolves around the family element of the titular team.
During an appearance on Sam Roberts' show on SiriusXM, he said: 'I don't think I'm speaking out of school, and I think, from what I've seen, and obviously I can't say much about it, but I will say the short time I was on set, dude, they're making a cool movie, man.
'This is a smart, chic Marvel movie that really focuses on family as part of the theme. And you really kind of fall in love with those characters, I think.'

Matthew Modine signed on to Godzilla x Kong: Supernova because he 'wanted to meet Godzilla'. The Stranger Things actor, 66, is due to star in the upcoming MonsterVerse blockbuster, and has now revealed he had agreed to appear in the film to meet the iconic Titan - only to be disappointed Godzilla wasn't actually there during production. Speaking on a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention, the Full Metal Jacket actor said: 'I just worked in Godzilla x King Kong: Supernova. That was pretty exciting. Oh, to work with Godzilla. And when you go to drama school, there's exercises you do where you come out, and you have to see things that aren't there. 'So I was happy to pretend that Godzilla was there. I did the movie because I wanted to meet Godzilla.' As well as Modine, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will introduce new characters played by Sam Neill, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O'Connell, Delroy Lindo and Alycia Debnam-Carey. The film will also see the return of Dan Stevens as Trapper Beasley. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is being helmed by We Bury the Dead director Grant Sputore and written by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe David Callaham. Although no plot details about the movie are known, Deadline previously reported Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will introduce several new human characters who will join the titular Titans as they face off against a new world-ending threat. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova - which is slated to hit cinemas in March 2027 - will pick up after the events of 2024's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Starring Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens and Brian Tyree Henry, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire followed the legendary Titans, Godzilla and Kong, as they joined forces to face a powerful new threat rising from within Hollow Earth - one that poses a danger to both their kind and the future of humanity. Last year, it was announced that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard would not be helming the next film due to scheduling conflicts. At the time, The Hollywood Reporter stated that his departure was amicable and that the possibility remained for Wingard to return to helm another Monsterverse movie in the future. Despite stepping away, Wingard had previously hinted that he had 'more story to tell' within the MonsterVerse. Speaking to Discussing Film ahead of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's theatrical release in March 2024, he said: 'The whole idea that if you've done two movies, like, maybe you should just go ahead and do a third because, as you said, there's a trilogy in there. Josh Brolin reveals his ‘trepidation' over The Goonies sequel
Josh Brolin is uncertain about making a sequel to The Goonies because he's concerned it might 'taint' the original movie. While the 57-year-old actor - who starred in the 1985 adventure flick as Brandon 'Brand' Walsh - wants a follow-up to go ahead, Brolin admitted he was also apprehensive about a Goonies sequel because he doesn't want to ruin the 'memory' of the first film. Speaking about a Goonies sequel with Entertainment Tonight, he said: 'I hope it does [happen] because the experience was so great. The movie is received so well, generation after generation. 'It's just everything good about it. The trepidation that I have is that you release something else that taints that. I don't want to taint what my memory of it [is].' The Weapons star then joked about a possible plot for a Goonies sequel that would catch up with the gang when they're much older. He teased: 'It's like, 'Oh, we came out with another,' and then the Goonies grew up, and then they came out with their walkers and then they fell off a cliff because they couldn't see very well. What are you going to do? I don't know.' Brolin added a Goonies follow-up could work if it had the full backing of the movie's original producer and co-writer Steven Spielberg. The Dune star said: 'Maybe it could be great. If it's great, you'll know. If Spielberg approves it, you know it's going to be good.' Even so, the Avengers: Endgame actor conceded several Goonies sequel scripts have already been presented to the Jurassic Park filmmaker, though Brolin believes none have met Spielberg's high standards yet. Although no specific details about the supposed sequel were disclosed, Deadline reported that Warner Bros. was shifting its focus toward established franchises, and therefore had begun development on a second Goonies film. The Goonies - which stars Ke Huy Quan, Sean Austin, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen and Brolin - follows a group of friends who discover an old pirate map and set off on a treasure hunt to save their homes from foreclosure. Along the way, they face booby traps, secret caves, and a family of criminals hot on their trail. Brolin's Goonies co-star Ke Huy Quan previously said he had his 'fingers crossed' for a sequel. He said of a Goonies follow-on: 'Well, fingers crossed. We have an incredible writer writing the script. Chris Columbus, Spielberg, obviously, same creative team. Except we've been developing for a long time. 'I want to be optimistic this time around. Hopefully, it will happen soon.'

Mark Ruffalo's Hulk confirmed for Spider-Man 4
Mark Ruffalo will join Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 57-year-old actor will reprise his role of Bruce Banner / The Hulk in the upcoming Sony/Marvel movie sequel, alongside Tom as Spider Man. Michael Mando will also return to his role of the Scorpion, the villain from 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, along with Jon as vigilante the Punisher. Tom, 29, recently revealed how excited he is to return to the Spider Man universe, after COVID-19 restrictions made shooting difficult on the third movie, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. He told Flip Your Wig: 'I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of Covid. We shot the entire film on stages. Now we're really going to lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations. 'We are going to use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.' Tom added that playing Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego is like 'like hanging out with an old pal' and filming the fourth movie is 'going to feel like making 'Spider-Man 1 [2017's 'Spider-Man: Homecoming] again'. He added: 'It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's going to feel like a breath of fresh air. I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together.' Zendaya will also be returning as MJ in Spider-Man 4, along with Jacob Batalon as Peter Parker's best friend Ned. Sadie Sink has joined the cast, but her character has not been revealed.
