Water Board MD says there is no threat to Manjeera barrage
The proposal was finalised last year, the tender process has been completed and the related agency designated for the works. HMWS&SB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy, who, along with a senior official, inspected the infrastructure on Saturday, said the State Dam Safety Authority has submitted its assessment on Friday, and no structural threat to Manjeera barrage was found.
Mr. Reddy, who inspected the barrage gates, pillars and pump houses, also instructed the construction agency for repair works to check leakage from gate two. It was stated that about 45 days would be required to carry out the work for gate replacement, during which time the water level will be kept below the minimum drawdown level. The related works were also postponed for now to avoid drinking water problems.
In line with the modernisation works on Manjeera Drinking Water Project, which includes a new pipeline along with the existing phase 1 and 2 pipelines, a detailed project report for ₹600 crore was also prepared and submitted to the government, Mr. Reddy stated.

Bengaluru men lose over ₹2 crore in WhatsApp-based stock market scam: Report
In yet another case of cyber fraud exploiting the lure of quick stock market profits, two Bengaluru residents have together lost over ₹2.15 crore to sophisticated online scams operated through fake trading platforms and WhatsApp groups, Deccan Herald reported. The victims were manipulated through staged social media interactions. According to the report, police said the victims were manipulated through staged social media interactions and professional-looking websites that simulated real-time stock trading dashboards, complete with fake returns. In the first case, a 48-year-old businessman from Visvesvaraya Layout, was targeted after he connected with a woman on Facebook who introduced herself as Ashmita Tiwari, allegedly a manager at Barclays Investment Bank in Mumbai. (Also Read: Tejasvi Surya, Sivasri Skandaprasad welcome their 'newest bundle of moo': 'She's small, has big innocent face') She directed him to a deceptive investment website and added him to a WhatsApp group named 'CATALIST CUSTOMER SERVICE'. The group appeared to be filled with satisfied investors, sharing screenshots of earnings and market tips. Over three months, Reddy made multiple transfers totaling ₹1.54 crore to bank accounts provided by the group, convinced by the phony dashboard that showed his funds growing. The scam only came to light when he attempted to withdraw his so-called profits, only to realise he'd been locked out and ghosted, the report added. In a similar incident, a 30-year-old engineer from Vijayanagar, identified as Randeep S, fell for a comparable scheme after joining a different WhatsApp group called 'India Stock HUB12'. According to the publication, he was persuaded to trade via a fake platform mimicking Citadel Securities. Unlike Reddy, Randeep initially received a payout of ₹90,000 on his first investment of ₹3.5 lakh, a tactic often used to build trust. But over two months, he ended up transferring ₹61.3 lakh before the scam unraveled. Two FIRs filed The West CEN Cyber Crime police have registered two separate FIRs and are investigating the cases. Authorities are now working with banks to trace the accounts where the fraudulent funds were routed. Investigators believe these groups are part of a larger syndicate that uses fake identities, cloned trading sites, and group psychology to dupe victims. Hyderabad consumer court: Delhi realty firm orderd to refund 25L after flat delivery failure; relief for 62-year-old city engineer
HYDERABAD: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-III, Hyderabad, has ordered a Delhi-based real estate firm to refund 25.42 lakh to B Anantha Reddy, a 62-year-old engineer from the city. The ruling followed a prolonged dispute over the non-delivery of a flat in the builder's Greater Noida housing project. The issue began when Reddy booked five flats with the firm, Ajay Enterprises Ltd, between 2012 and 2014 for the personal use of his family. One of these flats was allotted to him through an allotment letter in April 2013. He paid 69% of the flat's cost (37.23 lakh), amounting to 25.42 lakh, over several instalments. In May 2015, following discussions with the builder's representative, Tinku Ujwal, Reddy agreed to buy just three of the five flats and requested the remaining amount be refunded. Despite assurances, the builder failed to act on the proposal. In Feb 2017, the company unilaterally cancelled the allotment of flats, citing delayed payments. The builder claimed that Reddy was not a "consumer" as defined under the Consumer Protection Act, alleging that he bought multiple flats for commercial gain.
