24-year-old Anshul Kamboj has 79 wickets to his name in 24 first-class matches played so far. He was part of the CSK squad in IPL 2025 and picked up 8 wickets in 8 matches.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday (July 20) added Anshul Kamboj to India's Test squad for the last two matches of the ongoing five-match series against England. The 24-year-old fast bowler from Haryana has joined the Test squad in Manchester and is in line to make his red-ball debut as well at the iconic Old Trafford Stadium on Wednesday (July 23).
Anshul has never played at the highest level for India before but played two red-ball matches for India A against England Lions last month. In those two matches he impressed with his bowling as well as batting.
The right-arm medium pacer from Haryana dismissed one England Lions batter in the first four-day match and picked up two wickets each in both innings of the second unofficial Test played from July 6 to 9 in Northampton.
In the second unofficial Test, Anshul scored 51 not out after coming out to bat at No. 9 in the second innings and added 149 runs for the ninth wicket with Tanush Kotian.
Kamboj's record in first-class cricket
Anshul made his first-class debut for Haryana against Tripura at Palam A Stadium in Delhi on February 17, 2022. In that fixture, he scored 29 runs from 28 balls with the help of three sixes as a No. 9 batter and bowled 29 overs but failed to take any wicket.
In his next Ranji Trophy match, which was played between Haryana and Punjab at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Kamboj dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for a golden duck on the first ball of the match and finished with figures of 2/116 in 30 overs in the first innings. He scored 25 and 24 runs with the bat but failed to prevent his side from going down by 10 wickets.
In the last three years, Kamboj has played a total of 24 matches in first-class cricket and dismissed a total of 79 batters in addition to scoring 486 runs with the bat. His career-best score is 51 not out, which he made against England Lions in the last match, and he has two five-wicket hauls to his name.
Anshul's best performance in red-ball cricket is 10 wickets for 49 runs. During the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Elite Group C match played between Haryana and Kerala at Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Rohtak from November 13 to 16 in 2024, Anshul dismissed all 10 Kerala batters in the first innings. He bowled 30.1 overs and picked up 10 wickets for 49 runs.
The Karnal-born cricketer is only the third cricketer after Bengal's Premangsu Chatterjee (1956–57) and Rajasthan's Pradeep Sundaram (1985–86) to take all ten wickets in an innings of a Ranji Trophy match.
In the 2024 edition of the Duleep Trophy, Kamboj played three matches for India C and dismissed 16 batters.
Anshul's record in List A, T20, and IPL.
Kamboj has played 25 List A and 30 T20 matches so far and has 40 and 34 wickets, respectively, to his name. He made his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians in 2024 and picked up two wickets in three matches.
After being released by MI, Anshul joined Chennai Super Kings for Rs 3.40 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He made his CSK debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on April 11, 2025, and picked up one wicket. Overall, he finished the 2025 season with eight wickets in eight matches for the MS Dhoni-led side.

Kamboj added to India squad; Reddy likely to miss 4th, 5th Tests vs England

India have been aiming to level the five-match series against England by winning the 4th Test, starting July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester. There has been a 10-day gap between the Lord's and Manchester Tests. While the 10-day break would have helped the Indian team recuperate from the heartbreaking loss at Lord's, the news coming out of the Indian camp is not encouraging, with just two days to go for the 4th Test in Manchester. While Arshdeep Singh injured himself while stopping a drive from Sudharsan during a practice session, Nitish Kumar Reddy is nursing a knee injury, which he sustained during a gym session. Meanwhile, Akash Deep has been suffering from a groin issue that he picked up during the Lord's Test. Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj was included in India's squad on Sunday as backup for Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh, both of whom are in a race against time to be fit for the fourth Test. Akash Deep, who played the second and third Tests at Birmingham and Lord's, is dealing with a groin issue. Arshdeep Singh has yet to make an appearance in the series and is also recovering from a thumb injury. Nitish Kumar Reddy all but out of the England Test series India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is uncertain for the fourth Test after suffering a knee injury during a gym session on Sunday. He featured in the playing XI for both the second and third matches. Selection uncertainty leads to Kamboj's inclusion While there's still no confirmation on Akash Deep's fitness, Arshdeep is reportedly unlikely to play in the Manchester Test. As a result, selectors decided to bring in Kamboj as cover. Arshdeep injured during net session Arshdeep injured his left hand while attempting to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan during a net session at Beckenham on Thursday. His bowling arm required bandaging afterwards. Team awaiting medical reports before final call Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate noted the team will finalise its playing XI closer to the Manchester Test, depending on Arshdeep's medical assessment. 'He took a blow while bowling. It's just a cut. We need to evaluate whether stitches are required, which will influence our plans,' he added. Kamboj impresses with India A performance The 24-year-old Haryana pacer earned praise for his performance with India A against the England Lions in two warm-up matches. He claimed five wickets over four innings in Northampton and Canterbury, showcasing his ability to move the ball and generate bounce. Kamboj seen as promising prospect for the future Kamboj, a seam bowler known for hitting the deck hard, is viewed as a potential long-term asset, especially as Mukesh Kumar is on the wrong side of 30 and Harshit Rana is still adapting to red-ball cricket. Historic feat in Ranji Trophy boosted Kamboj's profile Kamboj rose to fame by taking all 10 wickets in a single innings against Kerala during a Ranji Trophy match in Lahli last year. He became only the third bowler to achieve this in Ranji history, following Premangsu Chatterjee (1956–57) and Pradeep Somasundaram (1985–86). Strong Ranji Trophy record last season In total, Kamboj picked up 34 wickets in six matches during the last Ranji Trophy season, underlining his potential as a standout performer in India's domestic red-ball circuit.

'Don't want to talk to you, you hit my father…': Harbhajan Singh recalls a heartfelt conversation with…

S Sreesanth (L), Harbhajan Singh (R) Former India's star spinner Harbhajan Singh opens up about about the one moment in his career that he wish he could remove from his career and cites the spat with former teammate S Sreesanth. Harbhajan Singh admitted it was completely his mistake in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. He also discussed about the conversation with Sreesanth's daughter that left him devastated. During the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008, Harbhajan who played for Mumbai Indians slapped Sreesanth, who played for Kings XI Punjab at the end of a league fixture. Harbhajan Singh opens up about the infamous IPL 2008 incident involving Sreesanth. Speaking on 'Kutti Stories,' a YouTube show hosted by R Ashwin, Harbhajan was asked if there was anything in his life that he wished he could take back. In response, the off-spinner, who was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad with Sreesanth, said 'One thing I'd want to change in my life is that incident with Sreesanth. I want to remove that incident from my career. That is the incident I would change from my list. What transpired was wrong and I shouldn't have done what I d id. I apologised 200 times.' said Harbhajan 'What I felt so bad was even years after that incident, I have been apologising every opportunity or stage I get. It was a mistake. We all make mistakes and we hope and try to never repeat such mistakes. He was my teammate and we were playing together. Yes, in that game we were opponents. But it shouldn't have gone to that level where we behave in such a manner. So yeah, that was my fault and the only fault of his was that he provoked me, but that's okay actually. However, what I did was not okay. I said, 'Sorry',' an emotional Harbhajan said. Harbhajan Singh's heartbreaking conversation with Sreesanth's daughter The 45-year old said the incident made him feel more devastated when he had a conversation with Sreesanth's daughter. 'What hurt me even after many years was when I met his daughter and I was talking to her with a lot of love and she said, 'I don't want to talk to you. You hit my father.' My heart was shattered and I was on the verge of tears. I was asking myself what is the impression I've left on her? She must be thinking of me in a poor light, right? She sees me as the guy who hit her father. I felt so bad.' said Harbhajan 'I still apologise to his daughter that I can't do anything. I keep telling her, 'but if there's anything I can do to make you feel better and make you think I'm not that kind of person, please tell me'. I wish when she grows up, she doesn't see me in the same light. And think her uncle will always be with her and extend any kind of support he can. That's why I want to remove that chapter,' Harbhajan added.

"If Someone Is Concerned About Injury...": Harbhajan Singh On Jasprit Bumrah Workload Management

A the debate over Jasprit Bumrah potentially skipping the 4th Test against England in Manchester intensified, the subject of 'workload management' became a hot topic of debate again. Even before the series started, India head coach Gautam Gambhir clarified that Bumrah will only feature in three Tests of the five on the England tour. Having already played two, Bumrah will play just one of the remaining two matches of the series. But, is that right considering the series is on the line, with India losing 2 of the first 3 matches? For former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, 'workload management' is a completely new thing. "See, workload management is a new thing. Once IPL came, people said that I will bowl 24 balls in a match and they will be absolutely spot on, and that is how people trained. If you go back in the past? What was workload? Workload was fitness. Players played 5-match series in the past as well. But yes, if someone is concerned about the injury, then you need to be careful," Harbhajan Singh said. Harbhajan called Bumrah an 'honest cricketer' who will do what his body allows. But, the Turbanator also admitted that the marquee pacer over-bowled himself in Australia, which led to injuries. "But see, Jasprit is the most honest cricketer out there. If he is not in pain, he will not only bowl a 4-over spell, he will bowl a 10-over spell for you. He did that in Australia as well. He bowled so much there that he got injured. His action contributes to that well. His run-up is short, and you have to bowl at high speed, so the finishing of his action puts a lot of stress on the body. If his body is well, make him play 5 Tests. If he plays 5 Tests, India will win the series. Ask any opposition, they will say that they do not prefer facing Bumrah," he added. Bhajji also stressed on the need to add spinner Kuldeep Yadav to India's team, in place of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. "Kuldeep should be playing. The brand of cricket England like to play, they will not be able to do that against Kuldeep. He could be your mystery bowler against them. You have to reduce one batter from the team. If it was left to me, I would drop Nitish Reddy and bring in Kuldeep," Harbhajan said. Harbhajan also said that B Sai Sudharsan should've been backed for the No. 3 spot over Karun Nair by the management. "I would have stuck with Sai Sudharsan. I would not have thrown him out after just one game. You gave him a chance at No.3 ahead of Karun Nair, and you should have stuck with him for at least three matches. He is a phenomenal talent and should get the backing of the team management. You played him over Karun, then you dropped him. Now there is an air that you want to drop Karun also from the next game, this simply ruins the flow, doesn't it?" he concluded.
