In a horrific incident, a man killed his nine-year-old daughter with an axe after she fell while riding a bicycle in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district.
The girl, Gauri, often fell ill, which had been a source of frustration for her father, Gyaneshwar Jadhav.
According to a report in NDTV, Gauri fell while riding her bicycle on Sunday, which infuriated her father. Later that night, in a fit of rage, Jadhav attacked and killed his daughter with an axe while she was asleep. At the time of the incident, Jadhav was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
The NDTV report suggested Jadhav kept Gauri's body at their home in Paranda taluka for 24 hours before the police intervened. Subsequently, the father was arrested. Assistant Police Inspector Gorakshanath Kharad from Aamby Police Station confirmed the details.
'The accused, Gyaneshwar Jadhav, killed his nine-year-old daughter Gauri with an axe. His daughter, who was ill frequently, fell while riding a bicycle. The father got angry and killed his daughter by hitting her with an axe while she was sleeping," NDTV quoted Gorakshanath Kharad as saying.
This shocking incident took place just a week after a similar incident was reported in Sangli, where a man killed his daughter for scoring low in a mock test. 17-year-old Sadhna Bhonsle, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), was beaten to death by her father, Dhondiram Bhonsle, after she received low marks in a practice exam.

Man assaulted by shop owner ropes in UBT MP, slaps accused at his office

Thane: A shop owner and his two staffers beat up Thane-resident Kiran Jadhav following a dispute over mobile recharge on Tuesday night which took a political colour after he complained to former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare. Naupada police have booked the trader and his associates under relevant sections of the BNS. The accused later appeared at Vichare's office, where they were filmed apologising to Jadhav. In the viral video, Jadhav is seen slapping the accused before accepting their apology. Jadhav submitted a letter to Naupada police requesting to withdraw his complaint, stating the matter was "sorted", but police clarified that since the case was already registered, it could only be withdrawn through the court according to legal procedures. Police emphasised the incident was a dispute over a commercial issue, dismissing any linguistic community-based narrative. — Nishikant Karlikar You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai

Exclusive: Kolkata College Meeting Resolution Shows Trinamool MLA Cleared 'Mango' Mishra's Contract

Kolkata: The governing body of South Calcutta Law College at whose campus a student was allegedly gang raped had passed a resolution to renew the appointment of the accused, Monojit 'Mango' Mishra, in August 2024. 'Mango' Mishra has been sacked now. He had been working as a temporary employee of the college on contract. NDTV has seen a copy of the resolution to renew his contract passed by the college's governing body, whose president is Trinamool Congress MLA Ashok Deb. Mr Deb told the college's vice principal to issue an appointment letter to 'Mango' Mishra, according to the resolution. The governing body's register and the attendance log of temporary employees have been seized for investigation, Kolkata Police sources said. The governing body register has records of all communications and minutes of meetings. According to the college vice principal who is also the governing body's secretary, 'Mango' Mishra signed up as an ad-hoc staffer as per the Bar Council's rules following the increase in the number of academic subjects. He was paid a stipend of Rs 500. However, allegations have surfaced that no process was followed in appointing 'Mango' Mishra. The contract of the man, who now faces allegations of gang rape, was renewed within 45 days and not after six months as mandated by rules, from the expiry of the previous contract. This happened under the supervision of Mr Deb, the Trinamool Congress MLA. Many professors and students were upset with the decision as they knew 'Mango' Mishra had a criminal background. Two other accused in the case, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, who were still studying in the college, have also been expelled. 'Mango' Mishra took admission in 2013, but was rusticated the same year for allegedly stabbing a man. He resurfaced in 2017, took readmission and graduated in 2022. He describes himself on social media as a practising criminal lawyer. "In December 2016, he was accused of leading a mob of outsiders to vandalise the college premises. FIRs and counter-FIRs were lodged at the Kasba police station in connection with the incident, but for some unknown reason, the cases got dropped," Titas Manna, a former student, told NDTV. There are at least seven first information reports (FIRs) and other complaints filed against 'Mango' Mishra with several police stations in south Kolkata, including many allegations of sex assaults. The college's governing body said it will apply for cancellation of 'Mango' Mishra's Bar Council membership.

Ferrari seized in Bengaluru over unpaid road tax, owner pays ₹1.41 crore after RTO action: Report

It had been spotted several times cruising through the city, drawing attention from both car enthusiasts and enforcement agencies. Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Bengaluru South Regional Transport Office (RTO) tracked down the vehicle and verified its registration and tax status. Upon confirmation that the required Karnataka road tax had not been paid, the Ferrari was seized and a notice was issued to the owner, directing them to clear the dues by Thursday evening. The notice also cautioned that failure to comply would lead to legal action. ₹ 1.41 crore pending tax recovered from car owner The owner promptly responded to the warning and made a payment of ₹1,41,59,041, covering the pending tax and associated penalties. Transport department officials said the payment is one of the highest single-vehicle tax recoveries made in recent years. In February, authorities had seized 30 luxury vehicles in Bengaluru for similar violations, namely, using out-of-state registrations to avoid paying Karnataka's road tax. Transport officials have been closely monitoring gatherings of luxury and exotic car owners, especially during weekend drives, where vehicles with non-Karnataka registration plates are often spotted. These gatherings have helped enforcement teams identify several tax evaders. Officials reiterated that under Karnataka Motor Vehicle laws, any vehicle used regularly in the state must be re-registered locally and pay the applicable road tax, regardless of its state of origin.
