Unemployed youth move Bombay High Court over delayed induction despite appointment letter
In a glaring instance of bureaucratic apathy, a young man from Sindhudurg district has moved the Bombay High Court after being left jobless for over eight months despite holding a valid appointment letter issued by a government-appointed agency. Sumedh Shivaji Jadhav, a postgraduate in English literature from Sawantwadi, was selected in October 2024 as an Assistant Programme Officer under the Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) in Maharashtra. The recruitment was conducted by S2 Infotech International Limited, a private contractor appointed by the State government to manage staffing for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). According to the writ petition filed by Jadhav, he received his appointment letter on October 10, 2024. The very next day, S2 Infotech formally informed the Deputy Collector of the EGS branch in Sindhudurg of Jadhav's selection. However, despite repeated follow-ups and visits to the EGS office in Sindhudurg as well as Mantralaya in Mumbai, Jadhav was never officially inducted into the role. 'I kept visiting the offices, but they offered no clear response,' said Jadhav in his petition, adding that he remains unemployed even as vacancies for the position persist. Frustrated by the silence, Jadhav filed a Right to Information (RTI) request earlier this year, only to receive confirmation that the Assistant Programme Officer post at the Sawantwadi EGS office has been vacant since April 1, 2025. The petition raises key constitutional questions under Article 226 and seeks court direction to the State and S2 Infotech to induct him into the position for which he has been selected. It argues that despite following due procedure and clearing the recruitment process, Jadhav has been deprived of a livelihood due to inaction by the authorities. The petition said that there is a growing trend where contractual recruitment through private agencies results in ambiguity, delays, and lack of accountability. The petition also includes communications between S2 Infotech and the EGS department, the appointment letter, and the RTI reply, substantiating his claim. Jadhav has urged the court to intervene to prevent further injustice not just to him, but to ensure transparency and fairness in government-contracted recruitment processes. The Bombay High Court is expected to take the matter for a hearing in the coming weeks.

One more Sena (UBT) leader resigns, another expresses displeasure with party
MUMBAI: Struggling to retain his partymen, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday received yet another jolt as party secretary Sanjay Lakhe-Patil resigned, accusing Thackeray of not keeping his promise of giving him the Jalna seat in the Lok Sabha elections. Bhaskar Jadhav, group leader in the assembly, also expressed his displeasure, saying he wanted to retire, as he was upset about not being allowed to complete his speech in the party's Foundation Day function. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray (left) on Sunday received yet another jolt as party secretary Sanjay Lakhe-Patil resigned. (HT Photo) Lakhe-Patil, a Congressman who joined Thackeray in March 2024 just before the Lok Sabha polls, was given the important post of party secretary in August 2024. However, he wanted more, and blamed Ambadas Danve for ceding the Jalna seat to the Congress. 'Danve nowadays is getting admiration from the party leadership for his anti-government protests across Marathwada. But he stole that idea from me,' he said. Danve, when contacted, said that the party leadership decided seat-sharing formulae, and he did not want to comment on Lakhe-Patil. Lakhe-Patil also claimed that Sanjay Raut had compromised the party's interest by claiming the Sangli Lok Sabha seat, which he lost badly. The other disenchanted Sena (UBT) leader, Bhaskar Jadhav, declared that leaving the NCP to join Thackeray in 2019 was a mistake, and expressed his unhappiness about not getting a cabinet minister's post in the MVA government. According to party insiders, Jadhav was upset about not being allowed to complete his speech at the Party Foundation Day function. Sanjay Raut, however, said that Jadhav was not upset. 'He has just expressed his feelings and Uddhav Thackeray will discuss the matter with him,' he said. 'One needs to understand that the party leadership gave Jadhav an opportunity to speak on Party Foundation Day, which is an honour.' After Raut's statement, Jadhav responded that he had the maturity to understand that this was an honour. 'I am a grounded person and do not have any misconceptions about myself,' he said. 'But I think that I should have been made a minister in the MVA government. I still feel that leaving Sharad Pawar was a mistake but I want to make it clear that I do not regret it.' With hundreds of his local leaders and former corporators having defected to the Shinde Sena and BJP, Thackeray on Friday held separate meetings of local leaders from all districts and organised dinner meetings with MPs and MLAs and urged them not to succumb to pressure from 'anti-Maharashtra' parties.

Beed man arrested for snatching gold chains
Pune: The Dighi police arrested Siddharth Jadhav (24) of Shirur in Beed district for snatching gold chains from women and men, all warkaris, during the palkhi procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj around 9am on Friday on Pune-Alandi Road. The Dighi police recovered 10 gold chains worth Rs9 lakh from his possession. Police said that a 60-year-old warkari from Panvel raised an alarm after Jadhav snatched his gold chain. Police personnel on bandobast duty as well as people apprehended Jadhav on the spot. "After apprehending Jadhav, we found 10 gold chains with him. We took him to the police station and waited for complaints from the people. Within a few minutes, eight women and a man walked into the police station with their complaints stating that someone snatched their gold chains taking advantage of the crowded situation. Our team showed them the recovery, and all of them identified their jewellery," an officer from Dighi police said. "Jadhav came to Pune from Beed to snatch chains from the warkaris during the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur. We suspect that he might have snatched more chains. We are questioning him on this," the officer said. Last year, the Pune city crime branch arrested a woman, who attempted to steal valuables of warkaris using her baby boy as a distraction in Nana Peth, where the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj took a halt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending Local Enterprise Accounting Software [Click Here] Accounting ERP Click Here Undo The woman, according to crime branch officers, was using her child as a distraction and attempting to steal gold chains and other valuables from warkaris. Eknath Shinde has no idea, no opinion, whatever BJP says, Shinde has to do: Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Bhaskar Jadhav
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] June 20 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray arrived at Sena Bhawan in Mumbai on Friday to hold a meeting with party leaders. Thackeray has called a crucial meeting with district heads, contact heads, and MLAs of the party. Speaking about the meeting, Shiv Sena UBT Leader Bhaskar Jadhav informed that the meeting aims to strategise and prepare for potential elections. ' The Supreme Court has given a judgment that elections for local sectors like Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, District Councils, and Panchayat Committees must be conducted within four months. So, because of that, the party should also be ready for elections. The party must prepare some kind of strategy for the elections. The party should also be ready for the election and should make a strategy, that's why a meeting of the district chief and public representatives has been called', Jadhav told reporters. Jadhav also criticised Eknath Shinde's recent remarks against Uddhav Thackeray, alleging that Shinde's words seemed to be dictated by the BJP. 'The words used by Eknath Shinde for Uddhav Thackeray ... it seems to me that the mouth is of Eknath Shinde but the words are of BJP, Eknath Shinde has no idea, no opinion, whatever BJP says, Eknath Shinde has to do that. So it seems to me that although Eknath Shinde's face is visible, everything is actually being done by the BJP...' Jadhav alleged. Earlier, addressing a gathering in Mumbai on Thursday, on the occasion of Shiv Sena Foundation Day, Eknath Shinde slammed Uddhav Thackeray, saying that his 'arrogance' is leading him to 'destruction.' Shinde said that Maharashtra has never seen such a 'treacherous person' and alleged that he betrayed Balasaheb Thackeray's ' ideas.' 'Arrogance is leading them to destruction. Maharashtra is witness to this. We know who committed the sin of tying Congress around their neck. He was helpless for power and tied his head around his waist. He betrayed Balasaheb's ideas. Maharashtra has never seen such a treacherous person', Eknath Shinde added. Furthermore, Jadhav attacked the BJP stating, 'Which party has the BJP not allied with in this country? Is there any party left that the BJP hasn't formed an alliance with? Did they take a certificate of Hindutva from Ramdas Athawale when they aligned with him? From Chirag Paswan? Did Bihar CM Nitish Kumar ever accept Hindutva? What about Chandrababu Naidu? BJP's Hindutva is only for the sake of power. The real Hindutva lies with Shiv Sena, with Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, and only with Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray.' On the Mumbai visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jadhav criticised Home Minister Shah for being selective about which states to visit. Jadhav claimed, 'Understand that the Union Home Minister or the Prime Minister repeatedly visits a state where elections have come in that state. It gives such an indication. When there is an election, they go to the state; when there is no election, they do not go there, do not see anything ...' Earlier, indicating that an alliance with Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) was on the cards, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray said he would do what was in the minds of the people of the state. The Shiv Sena (UBT) President also took a dig at the Mahayuti alliance, saying that the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena do not want Marathi parties to unite. The former Maharashtra Chief Minister, addressing the party's foundation day event on Thursday, said if the BJP dared to finish Thackeray, then he would 'finish off' the BJP.'... What people want will happen. We will see how it is to be done. The BJP and Shinde Sena do not want Marathi parties to unite. If you try to finish the Thackeray brand, we will finish off the BJP,' Thackeray said. Uddhav said he would not allow the imposition of Hindi in Maharashtra. He remarked that just ahead of the BMC polls, the imposition of Hindi was nothing but an attempt to create division among Marathis and non-Marathis.'The imposition of Hindi in the state will not be allowed at any cost. The BJP wants to create a divide between Marathi and Hindi speakers on the eve of civic polls,' the Former Maharashtra CM said. There has been speculation of Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) coming together ahead of the BMC polls, which are expected to happen in October this year.
