Gujarat Confidential: ‘Silence' sparks AAP fury

Vadodara Mayor Pinky Soni has been at the receiving end for her recent 'silence' over questions pertaining to the Vishwamitri River Project, a flood mitigation initiative, after a video of her unresponsive media interaction went viral last week. On Monday, Aam Aadmi Party's Vadodara unit vandalised the VMC building outside her cabin while she was away in Kerala launching the VMC's Green Bond book. The AAP unit blackened the door and name plate of the Mayor's cabin before ripping off the nameplate and throwing it away. Stating that the Mayor had 'failed in her duty to provide amenities' to the city, AAP leaders stomped on the nameplate. The AAP unit said that several parts of the city had been left with potholes on the roads as well as 'deliberately opened pits' along the road by the VMC during the monsoon, causing 'inconvenience and posing a threat' to the citizens. The unit also stated that several parts of the city were reeling under water crisis. Last week, a group of citizens also met Soni in her cabin and demanded her resignation in 'the interest of the city'. Soni had remained silent during the interaction.

Act to solve Chandni Chowk issues, Delhi BJP writes to mayor

New Delhi: Delhi BJP has joined traders in addressing concerns about deteriorating sanitation conditions and encroachment on the main road of Chandni Chowk. In a letter to mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor provided a detailed, point-by-point account of various issues, including problems caused by proliferating rickshaws, inconsistent waste collection and unregulated encroachment. Kapoor claimed that the Chandni Chowk beautification project, costing nearly Rs 99 crore, failed due to the previous Delhi govt's flawed planning. "A beautification project was initiated under Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation on a 1.3km stretch. AAP in Delhi govt divided the responsibility of upkeep of this place between PWD and MCD without allocating any maintenance budget," he said. MCD was given three tasks—rickshaw regulation, pink toilet construction and prevention of encroachments, and in 2024, it was handed the job of cleaning the main market, Kapoor added. "Not only were all four tasks poorly handled, but a new issue emerged in the past year—unauthorised food shops and stalls," he claimed. AAP didn't comment on the charges. "We will accordingly decide on actions to intensify sanitation and carry out an anti-encroachment drive. A call will also be taken on regulating the parking of rickshaws and resolving other issues," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The revamped Chandni Chowk was declared a no-motor zone, with only 350 registered rickshaws allowed to ply. "Today, the area has become a hub for illegal rickshaws, with two-wheelers and e-rickshaws operating freely. MCD has barely conducted any rickshaw removal drive in the recent past," alleged Kapoor, who is also a general secretary of Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch. "In the past three years, not even one pink toilet was built by MCD. Encroachments have peaked along the footpaths from Red Fort to Fatehpuri Mosque and on roads surrounding Chandni Chowk. Sanitation is in a dismal state, with garbage piles visible across the area—yet local councillors seem unconcerned," he wrote in the letter, which was also sent to CM Rekha Gupta, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal. Councillor rejoins AAP after expulsion by BJP

New Delhi: After being expelled from BJP , Ward 50 Mangolpuri-B councillor Suman Tinku Rajoura rejoined AAP. She took membership at AAP headquarters in the presence of Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj and MCD Leader of Opposition Ankush Narang. Rajoura left AAP before the assembly elections to join BJP. Rajoura, who joined BJP earlier this year ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections , said, "I have come back to my family and am very happy. I committed the biggest crime by joining BJP, and I promise never to repeat that mistake." She also criticised BJP's recent demolition drive: "BJP never stands with the public, as seen in the failed promise of 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan.'" On June 9, BJP expelled the councillor for six years for alleged "anti-party" activities and voting 'against' the party line in the Rohini Zone of the municipal corporation. "Central govt refusing to cooperate in crackdown on drug trafficking": AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj

New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): AAP leader and Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday levelled allegations against the BJP-led Central Government and claimed that the Delhi Police--under direct control of the Centre--is obstructing crucial anti-drug operations by Punjab Police across the national capital. According to an official release, the AAP Delhi State President alleged that the Centre was playing politics on an issue as serious as narcotics and demanded immediate cooperation with state agencies to dismantle the drug trafficking network operating in Delhi. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, 'We all know that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a sustained and major crackdown is underway against drug abuse and those engaged in the drug trade. For years, former Punjab Minister Vikramjit Singh Majithia's name has been repeatedly linked with the drug business in Punjab. Just a few days ago, Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Department in connection with a drug-related case.' He added, 'As part of this investigation, the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department are today conducting raids in several states across the country.' Saurabh Bharadwaj further said, 'It is with great regret that I share with you all that the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department have been seeking to conduct raids at multiple locations in Delhi since this morning. However, the Delhi Police, which reports directly to the BJP-led Central Government, is refusing to cooperate with the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department in executing these raids.' He stated, 'It appears deliberate efforts are being made to obstruct these raids in Delhi, potentially allowing other culprits involved in the drug racket to destroy evidence and evade arrest.' Appealing to the Central Government, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, 'Drug addiction is a serious issue that is destroying our future generations and ruining our youth. On such a sensitive issue, the Central Government must rise above politics and extend full cooperation to state governments.' AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi took to X and posted, 'Has a deal been struck between BJP and Vikram Majithia, accused in the drug money case? Now, the BJP is saving Majithia from the drug money case; in return, Majithia will join the BJP. Since this morning, Punjab Police have been present to raid two important locations in Delhi. But the BJP's Delhi Police is not allowing the raid to happen. Why is BJP protecting the accused in the drug money case?' (ANI)
