Delhi LG approves linking and re-distribution of Police Stations to Hospitals for medico-legal cases and post mortem examinations

New Delhi [India], June 27(ANI): In a major reform envisaged under the three new Criminal Justice Acts, Delhi LG, VK Saxena, has approved a significant proposal concerning the linking and re-distribution of police stations to hospitals across the National Capital Territory to handle Medico Legal Cases (MLCs) and conduct Post Mortem Examinations (PMEs).
According to a statement, this initiative is designed to ensure quicker, more efficient medical and forensic support to victims involved in cases such as rape, road accidents, and other emergencies requiring immediate medico-legal intervention. The approval follows an extensive review and collaboration between Delhi Police, the Home Department, and the Health and Family Welfare Department of the GNCTD. The process began with Delhi Police submitting a consolidated list of police stations along with their corresponding designated hospitals, as well as alternative hospitals.
The Health and Family Welfare Department subsequently formulated a comprehensive proposal addressing the current needs and challenges in medico-legal case management, according to the statement. A dedicated Committee was formed under the Health and Family Welfare Department to analyse and recommend an optimal linkage between police stations and hospitals, aiming to eliminate delays in providing urgent medical treatment and facilitating the medico-legal examination of victims. The Committee's recommendations were then thoroughly examined by the Home Department in consultation with both Delhi Police and Health officials to ensure feasibility and effectiveness. Following this, the draft notification outlining the re-distribution was vetted by the Law Department of GNCTD, which reviewed and suggested necessary amendments to align it with legal provisions. This re-distribution is being implemented under Section 194(3) of the BNSS Act, 2023, and will serve to better align police stations with hospitals equipped to manage medico-legal cases and conduct post-mortem examinations. The aim is to ensure that victims of crimes and accidents receive immediate medical attention and that medico-legal procedures are conducted promptly and efficiently, minimising procedural delays that can hamper justice delivery. Speaking ahead of the special edition, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya said, 'The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative resonates with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to action for a healthier, cleaner and more active India. Taking this people's movement forward, the upcoming edition will be particularly meaningful as our 'Swacchata Senanis' come together to uphold the essence of the nationwide cycling drive.' The Sports Minister has also urged all municipal bodies and urban local bodies across states to replicate the event in their own regions, ensuring maximum participation and visibility. Launched in December last year, with just 500 cycling enthusiasts, the Fit India Cycling Drive has since evolved into a national movement. As of now, the movement has been organised in more than 10,500 locations across the nation with the participation of more than 3.75 lakh individuals. These cycling drives are conducted by several Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), and National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) across the country. Bhavnagar (Gujarat) [India], June 29 (ANI): Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya in the 'Sunday On Cycle' program organised in Bhavnagar in Gujarat today cycling along with hundreds of others to advance the Fit India campaign. The campaign is organised nationwide across 6,000 locations with cleanliness 'warriors and workers,' highlighted the efforts of workers, according to the union minister. 'Every Sunday, a 'Sunday on Cycle' program is organised across the country to advance PM's Fit India campaign. Today, the 'Sunday on Cycle' program has become a movement in the country,' the union minister told ANI at the program. Visuals from the program showed the minister cycling along with hundreds of others and then talking with the people afterwards too. He also encouraged other people to join in on the program and start their fitness journey with cycling. 'This program has been organised at more than 6,000 locations across the country with cleanliness warriors and workers...I have also participated in this program with cleanliness workers to make an effort to stay we also want to send a message to the country that to stay healthy, we should all engage in cycling,' he said. "Always been our priority": CMO Ramban on preparations for Amarnath Yatra
Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 29 (ANI): The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Ramban district, Kamal Jee Zadoo, shared details about the preparations for the Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on July 3, stating that the Yatra remains a top priority for the administration. The CMO confirmed that 17 medical camps will be established en route to the Amarnath Yatra in Ramban, which will have a 'mini hospital' similar to those hospitals that will offer medical and diagnostic facilities. 'Amarnath yatra has always been our priority. We will have 17 medical camps (en route to the Amarnath Yatra in Ramban district)... We will also have a mini-hospital, similar to those hospitals, which will offer beds and diagnostic facilities', CMO Ramban told ANI. Furthermore, the Ramban CMO highlighted that the 'mini hospital' will be equipped with cardiac monitoring systems. Ambulance services will also be available for devotees, supported by a mobile medical team. 'We will also have a cardiac monitoring system... Ambulance facilities will also be provided during the Yatra with a mobile team - it's a new initiative that we are taking during this year's Yatra,' he said. On June 28, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to take place from July 1 to August 9, a release stated. The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved. It was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range, Sarah Rizvi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu base camp on July 2, Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on Friday.
