Benson Boone is taking his show on the road.
The backflipping, Grammy-nominated pop artist announced the American Heart Tour on May 5, ahead of an upcoming album of the same name, which will drop June 20.
The American Heart run, which will kick off on Aug. 22 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, will stop in major cities across North America, including New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, before closing out in Salt Lake City on Oct. 8.
The tour announcement follows a busy week for Boone, who made his musical guest debut on "Saturday Night Live" on May 3 and played the RiverBeat Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 4.

Boone, whose success has snowballed over the past year, also recently released "Mystical Magical," his second single from "American Heart," following up the release of "Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else" in February.
Boone debuted his latest track at Coachella, where he also went viral alongside Queen's Brian May for a raucous cover of the band's signature anthem "Bohemian Rhapsody.
Boone, who was nominated earlier this year for best new artist at the Grammy Awards, is best known for his chart-topping song "Beautiful Things," which became the top-streamed song in the world in 2024.

'This trend in big anthemic production and layered choir-like vocals that sounds like it was made from the church is simply coming back around again 10 years later,' she says. 'What's different now is how listeners use music.' Cobb believes that secular praise songs are still the soundtracks of people's big life moments, and we see that a lot with influencers and content creators. They'll record and upload videos of breakups, breakthroughs and gym sessions and edit them down to mini-cinematic masterpieces, backed by songs like 'Ordinary' and 'Beautiful Things.' The millions of viewers who watch those videos feel particularly emotional with those powerful songs in the background. 'And worship-style production works perfectly for these apps that need music with strong builds, releases and certain lyrical hooks, which work for social media usage,' she says. 'It also performs well on streaming. Slower intros give you space to lean in. Big, cathartic hooks get replayed. It's a clever style of writing.' There are a number of bona fide religious songs on the Hot 100 right now, including 'Your Way's Better' by Christian artist Forrest Frank and 'Hard Fought Hallelujah' by Jelly Roll and pastor/singer Brandon Lake, though they haven't found the same success as secular artists emulating religious songs. However, they are appealing to an untapped market for religious bro music and crafting a new genre which musicologist Kelsey McGinnis calls 'barstool conversion rock.' Those songs include heavy doses of masculinity, faith and party culture, though they're undeniably religious. They're borrowing elements from mainstream songs to elevate Christian messages, whereas secular praise music is borrowing elements from Christian music. Crossing over benefits both sides of the aisle. 'Labels are so desperate for community' There's a reason mainstream artists might want to emulate what church bands and Christian artists are doing. Chad Gerber, a Christian musician who first started playing in church bands when he was 6, has a hunch that members of the mainstream music industry may have noticed how religious artists have maintained audiences. 'Churches do not have to chase listeners because their audiences are already part of the community,' he says. 'Labels no longer get that kind of reliable connection from clubs or festivals because everything else is oversaturated and constantly competing with new forms of media.' He explains that praise music has always been functional — it's written to aid worship rather than to simply be listened to. 'Labels are desperate for community because selling community is the only way they make money now,' Gerber says. 'They see the community, the emotional connection and the numbers, so they copy the sound, the feeling and sometimes even the overall aesthetic.' Praise music is meant to be simple so that 'weekend musicians,' or people who play music as a hobby, can easily pick up the songs and perform them for large congregations without extensive rehearsal. 'The formula now is to simplify the song, repeat the chorus to help people engage in worship and repeat that pattern,' he says. 'The congregations respond most to this, so worship pastors give them more of it.' 'Deeply personal, massively shared' With secular praise music, we're going through that same phase. 'Lose Control' and 'Beautiful Things' haven't fallen off the charts as most songs naturally do, which helps to elevate newer, similar-sounding songs like 'Ordinary.' Though these songs walk the line between pop and rock, it's happening in country music as well, as Shaboozey's 'Good News' and Bailey Zimmerman's 'Backup Plan' also hold firm. Unlike their pop-rock counterparts, they're less about women and more about overcoming bad behavior and bad circumstances to achieve something more in life. Keith Urban tells my colleague Taryn Ryder that it's understandable that country songs have become part of the secular praise trend. 'So much of country music is the existence between a hellacious Saturday night and a redemptive Sunday morning pew,' says the country star, who's currently on his High and Alive tour, says. 'That's so much of where country resides is in those dualities of the human experience.' Secular praise music genres transcend country too, according to Amani Roberts, a music professor at Cal State Fullerton who also works as a DJ. She tells Yahoo that in the 1970s, the Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire weren't technically gospel artists, but they were spiritual. R&B groups in the 1990s like Boyz II Men ('A Song for Mama'), Jodeci ('Forever My Lady') and En Vogue ('Don't Let Go (Love)') used 'gospel-rooted vocals and lyrical arcs of devotion and redemption.' 'These were secular love songs that hit like sermons,' she says. 'What's different now is how genre-blending and streaming culture have made these songs feel both deeply personal and massively shared. We're in a moment where vulnerability isn't just accepted, it's expected.' So, releasing songs with vague religious elements, as well as memorable, anthemic choruses and family-friendly lyrics can unite listeners across the country despite how we're fractured in other ways by algorithms and political tension. 'Musical tastes are cyclical, and this format is resonating right now because people are craving emotional release,' Roberts says. 'We're living in a time where everything feels loud — digitally, socially, politically. These songs slow things down, pull you in gently and then give you that euphoric burst in the chorus. It's a structure that mimics the arc of a personal breakthrough.' Amen.

Happy Gilmore appeals to both MAGA and woke fans — and that's his genius
There's a danger in trying to pull too much hidden meaning from an Adam Sandler movie. For years, the comedian-turned-actor has starred in films that provide a few belly laughs ‒ at least for those of us with a certain sense of humor ‒ but not a lot of in-depth social commentary on the human condition. With Sandler, dating to his time as a "Saturday Night Live" cast member during the early 1990s, what you see is mostly what you get. With his style of comedy, you either love it or you don't. Except for the original "Happy Gilmore" and "The Wedding Singer," I find most of his movies unwatchable. Yet there was something about the original "Happy" movie, featuring a failed hockey player who turns into an irreverent golfing sensation, that inspired a cult following and compelled Hollywood to greenlight a sequel almost 30 years after the first movie's debut. After much more thought than a healthy person probably should give to such matters, I believe I've discovered why Happy Gilmore makes his fans happy: He's a character who appeals to both the woke- and the MAGA-oriented in our tribal society. If you remember any tidbits of the first movie, the MAGA side of Happy Gilmore's personality was easy to see, two decades before Donald Trump's first successful run for the presidency. As a hockey fan, Happy was a man's man. He had a short temper and a tendency for settling problems with his fists. He hated effeminate intellectual types, like the tax collector who was preparing to sell his grandmother's home at auction. If Trump says what a lot of people are thinking, Happy did what a lot of people would like to do ‒ either by taking a whack at those who annoyed him or tossing them through glass doors. Opinion: Jon Stewart warned comedians get 'sent away first.' Now it's happening. In the first movie, after discovering his talent for hitting long drives, Happy joined a professional golfing circuit, modeled after the real-life PGA Tour, then made a mockery of the sport's stuffy traditions and mannerisms. Parts of the story are very familiar. "Caddyshack" was another golfing movie that poked fun at the snobbery of the country club set and the decadent lives its members led. Happy and his followers in the first movie seem to identify strongly with the Make America Great Again crowd of modern-day politics, too. Happy's supporters at golf tournaments were bikers and other free-spirited individuals who delighted in following their Everyman hero's lead and defying rules and conventions aimed at ruining the common person's fun. Happy was Trump before Trump burst onto the political scene. That's not all, though: The Happy of the original movie was a pretty woke guy, too. Consider the people in his inner circle: There's his mentor, a Black former golfer. His caddy is a homeless person he meets at his first pro event. His main love interest is the smart and capable tour communications director, who is dismissed by chauvinistic men in her life. His role model is his elderly grandmother. Opinion: Ozzy didn't corrupt America's youth. He exposed the hypocrisy of their elders. Happy seems to see the value in people regardless of their gender, social status, color or age. While he is short-tempered and prone to violence, he also is quick to show forgiveness and compassion toward the less fortunate. That was the hidden genius of the first movie. Happy had traits that were relatable to people at both ends of our society's fragmented political spectrum. Die-hard conservatives and raging liberals alike could cherry-pick some of Happy's traits and claim him as their own. So how did this character development translate in "Happy Gilmore 2"? The new Happy, 30 years older and maybe somewhat wiser, hasn't mellowed all that much. He's still quick to use his fists to settle problems, or even toss those who bother him into a nearby lobster tank. He also has four sons who have grown into regular working Joes, all doing manual labor jobs and sharing their dad's pugilistic tendencies. "Money is for snobs," one of them declares early in the movie. Happy has a new live-in house guest − former pro golfer John Daly, an unabashed Trump supporter in real life, who plays himself in the movie. (Don't worry; there are plenty of other cameos from athletes, sportscasters and other celebrities to keep the surprises coming throughout the movie.) Opinion: I'm a PBS Kid at heart. Trump's cuts threaten what made me who I am today. Happy 2.0 still has qualities that should also endear him to liberals. His new caddy is played by Bad Bunny, a Hispanic singer who endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. His allies in the movie include the son of his Black golfing mentor from the first movie and a transgender woman. Happy spends a large portion of the movie trying to get his daughter into ballet school − in Paris, of all places − and he ends up defending some of the stodgy traditions he mocked in the first movie. In short, whether you're a liberal or a conservative, it's not hard to find parts of Happy's personality that fit your worldview. Whether that was by accident or design, it may explain why Hollywood thought movie fans would be willing to walk the course with Happy Gilmore again after all these years.

'That's so much of where country resides is in those dualities of the human experience.' She tells Yahoo that in the 1970s, the Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire weren't technically gospel artists, but they were spiritual. R&B groups in the 1990s like Boyz II Men ('A Song for Mama'), Jodeci ('Forever My Lady') and En Vogue ('Don't Let Go (Love)') used 'gospel-rooted vocals and lyrical arcs of devotion and redemption.' 'These were secular love songs that hit like sermons,' she says. 'What's different now is how genre-blending and streaming culture have made these songs feel both deeply personal and massively shared. We're in a moment where vulnerability isn't just accepted, it's expected.' So, releasing songs with vague religious elements, as well as memorable, anthemic choruses and family-friendly lyrics can unite listeners across the country despite how we're fractured in other ways by algorithms and political tension. 'Musical tastes are cyclical, and this format is resonating right now because people are craving emotional release,' Roberts says. 'We're living in a time where everything feels loud — digitally, socially, politically. These songs slow things down, pull you in gently and then give you that euphoric burst in the chorus.
