Jadeja scripts history in England with record-breaking century; shares epic stand with Sundar to save Test
Jadeja became the first Indian to score two Test centuries in England while batting at No.6 or lower, a rare feat that highlights his evolution as a reliable middle-order batter in overseas conditions.
With this latest hundred, Jadeja now has 454 runs in the series, surpassing MS Dhoni's tally of 349 runs in the 2014 England tour, making it the most prolific series in England by an Asian batter batting at No.6 or below.
Jadeja, during the second session of the fifth and final day of the fourth Test, joined the likes of England's Wilfred Rhodes and West Indies' Garry Sobers to become the third cricketer to score 1000 runs and pick 30 wickets in an away country.
The left-hand batter completed his 1000 runs in away Tests in England.
Earlier in the second innings, Jadeja snapped four wickets in 37.1 overs of bowling, where he conceded 143 runs at an economy of 3.8. He took the wickets of Zak Crawley, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Brydon Carse in his spell. With these four wickets, the left-arm spinner completed 30 wickets in away Test matches in England.
Another highlight of Day 5 was the unbreakable partnership between Jadeja and Washington Sundar. Walking into a pressure situation with India still trailing, the duo showed remarkable grit and composure to put together an unbeaten 203-run stand for the fifth wicket, now the highest fifth-wicket partnership by an Indian pair in England.
Sundar, playing with maturity, brought up his maiden Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 101, matching Jadeja's calmness and stroke-play throughout the session.
Their partnership also marked India's 10th century stand in this series, making it the second-most in a single Test series for India, just behind the 11 century stands recorded against West Indies at home in 1978/79.

Santner named New Zealand Test skipper for Zimbabwe Series
Auckland: Mitchell Santner becomes the 32nd player to lead New Zealand's men's side in Test cricket as regular Blackcaps captain Tom Latham was ruled out of the first Test against Zimbabwe due to a shoulder injury, as per the official website of the ICC. Latham sufferd the injury while fielding in a domestic T20 game in England, and hasn't been deemed fit enough to feature in the playing XI. But the left-handed top-order batter will continue to remain with the squad, with the hope that he regains full fitness ahead of the second Test match against the Chevrons. Santner, who has 1066 runs and 74 wickets from his 30 Tests, assumes the role fresh off a T20I Tri-Series victory in Harare where the Black Caps remained undefeated in the group stage into the finals. Rob Walter, New Zealand head coach, expressed his disappointment for Latham but backed Santner to do well. "It's never great when you lose your captain (Tom Latham), who's a world-class opening batter and a great team man, but that said we're going to work really hard to have him available for the second Test," he said. "We'll continue to assess and see whether a replacement player is necessary, but at this stage we are hopeful that he'll recover in time," he noted. "Mitch (Santner) did a wonderful job with the T20 squad in this recent series. Whilst the format is different, he certainly has the respect of the players and will be supported by some highly experienced Test cricketers, so I trust that he's going to do a great job," Walter said. GENEVA: England defender Lucy Bronze revealed that she had been playing the 2025 UEFA Women's European Championship with a broken leg after helping her side retain the title on Sunday night following a nail-biting penalty shootout win against Spain. The 33-year-old played 598 minutes in the tournament, and will be remembered for slamming home the decisive penalty in the quarterfinal win against Sweden after she had got her team back into the game with a 79th-minute goal, with England two goals down and seemingly heading out. That game also saw her tightly pulling strapping around her upper thigh during a break in play in the closing minutes, but she was still able to play in the semifinal win over Italy. Bronze also played 105 minutes of Sunday's final before suffering a knee injury that forced her off in tears. After Chloe Kelly scored the decisive goal in the shootout, Bronze made a shock admission that she had been playing with a broken leg. "I actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia, but no one knew," said Bronze in a post-game interview. "That is why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game because I have been in a lot of pain," she continued, showing her incredible commitment. "If that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do - they know that. We inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end," said Bronze. England coach Sarina Wiegman confirmed Bronze had played with a broken bone.
