Power restored after more than 50,000 people reported an outage north of Denver
DENVER (KDVR) — Tens of thousands of people living north of Denver were without power on Friday.
It was a dreary and soggy Friday, with rain and snow impacting roadways. Residents north of Denver were also reporting a large power outage that impacted tens of thousands of people.
According to Xcel Energy's electric outage map, just before 11 a.m., nearly 30,000 people were impacted by 34 reported outages. These outages were in Westminster, Broomfield, Thornton and north of Northglenn.
Just before 11:30 a.m., Xcel said only four customers were impacted and a majority of power had been restored.
At its peak at 10:20 a.m., over 57,000 customers were impacted by 71 outages reported.
The city of Northglenn said the city hall and the recreation center were closed due to the outage. Northglenn police are stationed at major intersections to help direct traffic.
If you are at an intersection where the lights are out, treat it as a four-way stop.

Northglenn police said the outage is due to the weather.
The Pinpoint Weather team has been tracking this winter storm that brought snow and rain to the Front Range and high country. Friday and Saturday are Pinpoint Weather Alert Days.
Spring snow is often wet and heavy, and it can have an impact on trees and electrical wires.
Aside from power, the storm caused a lengthy closure on Interstate 70 Friday morning, leaving mountain travelers stranded for a few hours. Thankfully, the interstate has since reopened.
The snow is expected to taper off by Friday night into Saturday morning.

Reports are coming in of tree damage in the Waconia area following the storm. The Winery at Sovereign Estate is among the local businesses to announce closures on Sunday – not due to storm damage, but due to power outages. We're still awaiting further details on the number of confirmed tornadoes in Minnesota from the Sunday storm, which also brought widespread damaging winds and heavy rain, sparking flash flooding warnings in areas such as Wright County. Many families across the Twin Cities metro and western Minnesota are finding themselves cleaning up Sunday after severe storms rolled in overnight. Nearly 18,000 Xcel Energy customers are without power in the Twin Cities as of 10:30 a.m., according to the company's outage map. That's down from about 50,000 customers without power earlier in the morning. Xcel Energy says its crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power. Several trees came down on Highway 7 in the southwestern metro, blocking traffic in both directions for several hours. Power lines were also downed in the storm. The highway has since reopened. The Swift County Sheriff's Office in west-central Minnesota reported a tornado touchdown five miles east of Halloway just before 8 p.m. on Saturday. Another tornado warning was issued for parts of Minneapolis and the south and western metro around 12:30 a.m. The NWS allowed that warning to expire at 1 a.m. No tornadoes have been officially confirmed. There's another chance for severe weather Sunday night, with the Twin Cities under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) and southeastern Minnesota under a slight risk (2 out of 5).
