Family of Sask. man shot in throat raises money for his recovery
Peggy Epp and Barb Prince are raising money to support the recovery of their brother, Jim Primeau, who was shot in the throat on June 4, 2025. (Jasmine Pelletier / CTV News) Jim Primeau was shot in the throat on June 4 while trying to evict a tenant from his rental property. Now his family in Prince Albert is working to move forward, following the tragedy no one saw coming. 'The doctor said he couldn't have come in in any worse shape,' said his sister Peggy Epp. 'And he is making a miraculous recovery.' His sisters say he flatlined after the incident before he was stabilized and transported to Saskatoon. He spent the next four days in a coma. The 57-year-old is now in hospital with a spinal cord injury. 'He cannot lay flat on the bed because he can't breathe flat,' said another of Jim's sisters, Barb Prince, who has been spending time caring for him at the hospital. ' He has to be sitting up. He can't, it's just very difficult to watch anyway. Yeah, it's heartbreaking to know that he has to go through all this.' Since he is unable to speak, Jim has been writing on a whiteboard to communicate. His sisters say that while it's unsure how much function he will get back, they remain optimistic. 'Jim's very positive about moving forward,' Epp said. 'He's fighting very hard.' The family says Jim is also working to recover from the psychological trauma caused by the shooting. The money raised though his GoFundMe will help cover his utilities while he recovers and to make accessibility renovations to his home. 'We're looking at lifelong care for Jim,' Epp explained. 'He's got his rental we want to turn into his home to return to. It's got room for him to have a renovated bathroom; a wheelchair could roll into it.' Jim is a registered dog breeder and is looking forward to seeing his nine Old English Bulldogs. The Prince Albert Police Service told CTV that there have been no public updates in the investigation in the last month, However, police said any further updates in relation to this incident will be shared publicly when new information becomes known or when the investigation is concluded.
