Andhra Pradesh poised to emerge as a model for other States in agrivoltaics, says NSEF CEO
Addressing the A.P. State Consultation Workshop on 'Agrivoltaics', organised by the NSEFI, New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, here on Wednesday, Mr. Subrahmanyam said that with its vast agricultural landscape, abundant solar resources, and a progressive policy framework, A.P. was poised to become the model for other States for agrivoltaics in India.
He asserted that A.P.'s approach to agrivoltaics (using land for both agriculture and solar power generation) would not only accelerate its energy transition but also provide a replicable model for other States.
The NSEFI was working closely with agricultural universities for aligning agrivoltaics with the specific needs of the State's diverse agro-climatic zones.
'It is crucial to integrate climate-resilient agricultural practices with agrivoltaic systems. Combining solar energy with farming can not only provide farmers with an additional source of income but also help them in adapting to changing climate conditions, thereby ensuring sustainable growth in the two sectors,' Mr. Subrahmanyam added.
NREDCAP Vice-Chairman & Managing Director M. Kamalakar Babu said A.P. had been a front-runner in the adoption of solar energy, and agrivoltaics could further strengthen the rural economy and energy resilience.
A.P. was making rapid progress in RE, particularly on the solar power front, which was essential for the State's sustainable growth.
The integration of solar panels with agriculture would facilitate the generation of additional revenue for farmers while ensuring sustainable power generation for the State. In areas like Rayalaseema, where small crops like pulses and millets were primarily cultivated, agrivoltaics offer an opportunity to diversify farmers' income streams, Mr. Babu added.

Naidu pitches Andhra Pradesh as best, safest destination for investments at Singapore forum
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday described Andhra Pradesh as the best and safest destination for investments, assuring full government support to industries. Speaking at the A.P.–Singapore Business Forum Roadshow in Singapore, a lead-up to the Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam this November, Mr. Naidu highlighted vast investment potential in aerospace, defence, agri-tech, semiconductors, food processing, logistics, biotech, tourism, and other sectors. He said Andhra Pradesh offers both opportunity and security for investors, supported by industry-friendly policies under the Swarna Andhra 2047 Vision. Recalling Singapore's earlier role in drafting the Amaravati master plan, he said the present government is keen to revive ties and invited Singapore firms to collaborate with A.P. Mr. Naidu said the State was shifting to green energy, developing logistics corridors in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati, and strengthening its skilled workforce. He also noted the presence of six operational ports and four more under construction, and the advantage of three major industrial corridors. Andhra Pradesh is building a Quantum Valley in Amaravati, integrating data through a data lake, and prioritising Artificial Intelligence adoption, he added. The State's WhatsApp governance model has also emerged as a trendsetter. Ministers Nara Lokesh, P. Narayana and T.G. Bharat were present.

Andhra govt cancels two Adani projects at company's request
The Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled two Adani Green Energy Ltd 's ( AGEL ) pumped hydro storage power projects (PSP)--1,200 MW Kurukutti and 1,000 MW Karrivalasa--at the request of the company due to "local issues", a top official said on Monday. In a government order (GO), Chief Secretary K Vijayanand noted that AGEL wrote to the government to cancel these projects due to boundary disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, which it termed "local issues". "The government, after detailed examination of the proposal of AGEL in consultation with various stakeholders, has further issued orders for the cancellation of 1200 MW Kurukutti and 1000 MW Karrivalasa Pumped Hydro Storage Power Projects in Parvathipuram Manyam District allotted to AGEL," Vijayanand said. The AGEL received permission to set up these two projects during the previous YSRCP government on June 29, 2022. The feasibility reports for these projects were prepared by the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) by engaging TCE Ltd while AGEL took up the responsibility of survey and investigations and the preparation of detailed project report (DPR). On September 12, 2024, AGEL requested the cancellation of these two projects due to a boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and requested to refund the facilitation charges paid by the company or adjust those funds towards the allotment fee due for 1000 MW Pedakota and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects. The Pedaktoa and Raiwada projects were also allotted to AGEL. Again on May 15, 2025, AGEL requested the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects through a letter, said Vijayanand. Taking into consideration the difficulties in conducting survey and investigations due to border disputes, the vice chairman and managing director of NREDCAP, M Kamalakara Babu, has requested the government to consider the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects as "there is no fault on the part of the developer", AGEL, said Vijayanand. Further, Babu also requested the approval to adjust fee paid for these projects after deducting the expenses incurred for conducting the survey and investigations by NREDCAP against facilitation fees and DPR expenses after adjusting the taxes payable, in respect of 1000 MW Pedakota PSP and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects. The AGEL's cancellation proposal was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on July 17 and it had agreed to cancel Kurukutti and Karrivalasa projects due to local issues as per the request of the developer, added Vijayanand.
