East of England to get 29 new ambulances
The new ambulances will replace ageing vehicles in the organisation's fleet by March 2026.
More than £4.5m will be invested in the new vehicles for the East of England Ambulance Trust as part of a nationwide rollout.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the vehicles would "make a real difference to patients".
The rollout follows the government's new package of investment and reforms to improve patients' experiences of urgent and emergency care this year.
This included caring for more patients in the community, rather than in hospital.
Backed by about £450m of funding, the plan aimed to deliver about 40 new Same Day Emergency Care and Urgent Treatment Centres.
It also aimed to create up to 15 mental health crisis assessment centres so patients can avoid waiting in A&E for hours for care.
About 500 new ambulances will be provided to services nationwide.
Streeting said: "These 29 new ambulances will make a real difference to patients in the East of England, replacing old and tired vehicles and getting to patients in minutes, rather than hours.
"We can't fix more than a decade of underinvestment and neglect overnight. But through the measures we're setting out today, we will deliver faster and more convenient care for patients in emergencies."

New scheme will provide patients with access to support services through NHS app
Patients will be able to access charities and support services though the NHS app, under a new scheme announced by Sir Keir Starmer. The Prime Minister said that the new system would offer 'comfort and support' to people who had been newly diagnosed. In a speech to charities and civil society leaders at the Science Museum, Sir Keir announced the diagnosis connect programme which he described as 'life-changing'. 'This is a new programme linking newly diagnosed patients directly to expert charities,' he said. 'Helping them navigate which charities they can get to, which support they want, a different journey for each of them.' He added: 'That's life-changing for people, looking for information and support often at a really difficult time.' Addressing the charities in the room, he said: 'And that's putting your expertise directly in people's pockets with the NHS app, so that's going to go on the NHS app… and then people will have it as their map to the support from the charities that they need when they've been diagnosed. 'What a comfort and security that will be for so many millions of people.' The speech came as the Government launched its civil society covenant, designed to enhance relationships between Whitehall and other sectors including community groups, faith groups and charities. Ministers have already announced their intention to enhance the NHS app, in the hope of giving patients more control over their care, with healthcare data collated into a single patient record. Speaking about the app earlier this month, Sir Keir said it would be 'like having a doctor in your pocket'. The civil society covenant, launched on Thursday, pledges to 'respect the independence of civil society organisations' as well as 'strengthen trust with open communication and sharing of data'. In his speech at the Science Musem, the Prime Minister said that the system is about 'rebalancing power and responsibility'.

5 Symptoms Of Salmonella As Tomatoes Linked To Dozens Of Cases
Food safety watchdogs have linked 2024′s unusually high incidence of salmonella to tomatoes, The Independent shared. UKHSA data showed that the UK saw a salmonella peak last year, with 17.1% rise compared to 2023 (the highest figures of the decade). The Salmonella Strathcona outbreak, which is particularly dangerous, and the Salmonella Blockley strain, which is concerning because it's not previously been seen much in Europe, were both linked to tomatoes. 'Tomatoes were... blamed for a Salmonella Strathcona outbreak with 24 patients,' Food Safety News shared, while 84 Salmonella Blockley cases were said to come from the fruit. It's also been associated with eggs and red meat. Early 2025 data shows salmonella reports were high in the first quarter of this year, too. Which tomatoes have been linked to salmonella in the UK? We don't know which tomatoes in particular were linked to the disease, or where they came from. We also don't know where they were sold in the UK. But usually, salmonella in tomatoes comes from water supplies as they grow. Worker hygiene and nearby animals can also affect susceptibility, CBS News added. Can you wash salmonella off tomatoes? You should always wash your produce to prevent disease. But Virginia Tech food microbiologist Robert Williams told CBS News: 'We know you can wash off some salmonella... [but] nobody's ever shown it washes off all salmonella.' Still, equally, nobody's shown it doesn't, and washing fruits and vegetables helps to prevent other illnesses too. The Food Standards Agency says we should 'wash them under a running tap, or in a bowl of fresh water, making sure to rub their skin under the water'. Begin with the least soiled produce first and give fruit and veg a last rinse after the scrub. What are the symptoms of Salmonella? Per the NHS, symptoms can take anywhere from six hours to three days (or more) after infection to show. These include: Loose stools (usually without blood or mucus) Abdominal (tummy) pain Fever, headache Nausea (feeling sick) and/or vomiting General tiredness. Most people will recover in three to seven days. Many cases will go away on their own, but if you have severe symptoms, see your GP. 'In most cases, it is generally advised to wait until 48 hours after last having diarrhoea or sickness before returning to work or school/nursery,' the health service adds. Washing hands, chilling and cooking food properly, and avoiding all 'raw' dairy can help prevent the disease. Related...
