Former Premier League manager Ivan Juric, 49, rushed to hospital after ‘serious inflammation of upper airways'

The Suna day ago
FORMER Premier League manager Ivan Juric has been hospitalised after suffering "serious inflammation" of his upper airways.
The 49-year-old is currently in charge of Serie A big boys Atalanta having replaced Gian Piero Gasperini as manager last month.
1
But he wasn't present for the club's first pre-season training session after a bacterial infection caused part of his airways to become seriously inflamed.
An Atalanta statement read: ""talanta BC announces that coach Ivan Jurić was hospitalized in recent days at the Bolognini Hospital in Seriate, in the ENT department headed by Dr. Davide Panciera, following a serious inflammation of the upper airways, complicated by a bacterial infection of the epiglottis, which was treated with intravenous antibiotics."
The condition of Croatian Juric is, thankfully, improving.
Atalanta's statement continued: "The current clinical picture is significantly improving, and a protected discharge is expected in the next few days."
Juric has yet to issue a statement on his hospitalisation.
The Croat inked a two-year deal with Atalanta in early June.
His appointment as La Dea chief came just over three months after he was sacked by Southampton following their relegation to the Championship.
Juric was in charge of Saints for just 107 days and admits he won't, from a sporting perspective, look back on his time at St Mary's with any fondness.
Following confirmation of his return to Serie A management, he said: "[It was) a negative year on a sporting level.
"[From a] human and knowledge level, it was fantastic.
"I think I feel much stronger than a year ago, because [at] Roma I saw great clubs, great players. I learned a lot.
"In Southampton, I appreciated a fabulous Premier League. "People who are in the club, who know how to work.
"I saw really beautiful things. In the Premier League, I also remember the level of the players, [it's] very high.
"I think two negative experiences on the one hand, and on the other, [it was] very positive for me and my growth."

Marcus Rashford ‘doesn't DESERVE' Barcelona transfer says Man Utd legend who blasts his actions as ‘soul destroying'

MANCHESTER UNITED icon Teddy Sheringham claims Marcus Rashford 'does not deserve' a summer move to Barcelona. The Spaniards are reportedly weighing up a swoop for Red Devils misfit Rashford, who is out of Ruben Amorim's plans. 4 4 The versatile United forward has just returned from a loan at Aston Villa, having declared that he was 'ready for a new challenge' in December. And he has even been keeping fit at Carrington while he hunts for a new club, with rivals Liverpool linked with a shock move yesterday. But Rashford has long dreamed of turning out for Barcelona at the Nou Camp. And that dream could become a reality as the Spaniards hunt for a new left-sider. They had initially wanted Nico Williams, but he ended up signing a new contract with Athletic Bilbao. Another target, Luis Diaz, is now being chased by Bayern Munich for big money. And Rashford could end up being the man Barcelona pick to boost their attacking options. However, legendary hitman Sheringham reckons a move to Spain would not be a just reward for Rashford's antics. The 1999 Treble clincher, who struck a 91st minute equaliser in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich just moments before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dramatic winner, feels Rashford's push to leave his boyhood club is 'soul destroying.' Sheringham believes that given United's current state, a move to Barcelona would definitely be a 'step up.' Marcus Rashford says he wants to play with Lamine Yamal at Barcelona in transfer plea 4 4 However, he feels Rashford is not deserving of that and hopes a transfer to Catalonia does not go through. Sheringham told Sky Bet: 'If you assess where Marcus Rashford is at, as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to get to the very top and play for clubs like Manchester United, and when you're there, you appreciate it. 'You don't throw it away and say you want to leave. From my perspective, if you go from United to Barcelona, that's a step up he hasn't deserved. 'I find the whole episode very soul-destroying, compared to the way I was back in the day and how I strove to get the privilege to play for such a huge football club. 'To hear someone talking the way he is talking, saying he wants out – I didn't like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doing that at Arsenal, I thought it was soul destroying. 'I hope Rashford doesn't get the move that he's hankering for.'
