Ahmad's Fried Chicken aims to open 66 new outlets

KUALA LUMPUR: Fast-rising local fried chicken brand Ahmad's Fried Chicken (Ahmad's) is setting its sights on aggressive expansion with plans to open 66 new outlets nationwide throughout 2025.
According to Ahmad's co-founder Lailatul Sarahjana Mohd Ismail, the company had launched 30 outlets in the first half of the year.
This includes four full-fledged restaurants, five mini restaurants, and 21 kiosks across states such as Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu.
She said the brand has gained strong traction among fried chicken lovers, offering a nostalgic lineup of 24 heritage-inspired Malaysian dishes, including their signature crispy fried chicken, burgers and various side offerings.
"In the next six months, we plan to open 36 more outlets across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan as well as Sabah and Sarawak," she said at the launch of the brand's 30th outlet in Setiawangsa recently.
Lailatul added that Ahmad's is also offering business partnership opportunities for local entrepreneurs through a franchise-style collaboration model, as part of its broader expansion strategy.
"We're confident that this initiative will empower more local entrepreneurs to own and operate outlets under a beloved homegrown fried chicken brand, while fast-tracking our mission to bring nostalgic, heritage recipes to more Malaysians nationwide," she said.
Ahmad's, operated under Mad Bean Holdings Sdn Bhd, is also preparing to venture into international markets, with proposed outlets in Mecca, Brunei, Turkey and the United States.
"We are currently in the midst of exploring international expansion, and we aim to roll out our first overseas outlets next year," she revealed.
"Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia have been identified as high-potential markets, and will likely be our initial points of entry," she added.
Lailatul noted that the company's domestic and international expansion plans are aligned with its commitment to contribute to the development of Malaysia's F&B ecosystem, while creating more job opportunities in the growing halal food and beverage sector.

Thai and Cambodia border calm ahead of military commanders meeting

A view shows an empty street of Samraong, the capital of Oddar Meanchey province, about 20 km (12 miles) from the border, from where people evacuated during ceasefire talks in Malaysia, as the deadly border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia extended to a fifth day, Cambodia, July 28, 2025. REUTERS/Chantha Lach BANGKOK (Reuters) -The Thailand-Cambodia border, where fighting has raged since last week, is now calm following a ceasefire deal and military commanders from both sides are set to meet for talks on Tuesday, acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said. Phumtham and his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet, met in Malaysia on Monday and agreed to halt their deadliest conflict in more than a decade following five days of intense fighting that displaced over 300,000 people and killed at least 38 people, mostly civilians. The Thai army said in a statement there had been attacks by Cambodian troops in at least five locations early on Tuesday, violating the ceasefire that had come into effect from midnight, and Thailand's military had retaliated proportionately. Phumtham played down the clashes, and said he had spoken with Cambodia's defence minister ahead of the talks between military commanders, which are scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. local time (0300 GMT). "There is no escalation," Phumtham told reporters. "Right now things are calm." Maly Socheata, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Defence Ministry, said in a briefing on Tuesday that there had been no continued fighting along the border. Monday's peace talks came after a sustained push by Malaysian Premier Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump, with the latter warning Thai and Cambodian leaders that trade negotiations would not progress if fighting continued. Thailand and Cambodia face a tariff of 36% on their goods in the U.S., their biggest export market, unless a reduction can be negotiated. After the ceasefire deal was reached, Trump said he had spoken to both leaders and had instructed his trade team to restart tariff talks. The Southeast Asian neighbours have wrangled for decades over their disputed frontier and have been on a conflict footing since the killing of a Cambodian soldier in a skirmish late in May, which led to a troop buildup on both sides and a full-blown diplomatic crisis. Malaysia set to become Southeast Asia's AI powerhouse with NVIDIA-YTL deal

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is poised to emerge as a regional hub and centre of excellence for artificial intelligence (AI) in Southeast Asia, following the signing of a landmark strategic partnership between global AI leader NVIDIA Corporation and YTL Power International Bhd. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that the agreement marks a significant step in accelerating Malaysia's AI capabilities through the development of advanced infrastructure powered by green energy. The initiative, backed by a substantial investment of RM10 billion, underscores Malaysia's ambition to position itself at the forefront of AI innovation in the Asean region. "This landmark project includes the development of AI data centres, deployment of NVIDIA's high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), and most importantly, the creation of Malaysia's own sovereign large language model (LLM)," Tengku Zafrul shared in a post on the social media platform X. The sovereign LLM is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing Malaysia's digital autonomy by enabling the creation of AI solutions tailored to local languages, culture, and industries—supporting national security and propelling digital economic growth. YTL Power, a unit of YTL Corporation Bhd, will lead the physical development of the AI infrastructure. The company is also tasked with building a robust AI ecosystem by engaging global technology firms, local suppliers, and Malaysian contractors—ensuring strong domestic participation. Tengku Zafrul added that the partnership is a direct result of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's international engagement efforts, which have opened the door to high-impact investments with the potential to reshape Malaysia's economic and technological future. The announcement follows a key meeting in December 2023, during which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim engaged with NVIDIA chief executive officer Jensen Huang and YTL Power managing director Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong to explore AI investment opportunities. The deal is now regarded as a significant milestone that cements Malaysia's position in the global AI supply chain and accelerates its drive towards sustainable, innovation-led growth.

KUCHING: Some 110 Sarawakian students have received sponsorships totalling RM28mil from PETRONAS for their tertiary studies. The outstanding 2024 SPM school leavers from diverse backgrounds will pursue degrees in engineering, economics, law and other industry-related courses at local and overseas universities under the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge education sponsorship. "At the heart of this vision is our focus on building talent and expanding opportunities across all levels of education, from early childhood to tertiary, from academic pathways to technical and vocational training. "We are determined to ensure that every Sarawakian has the opportunity to thrive and move forward," she said. Fatimah also said the education sponsorship was a platform to shape future professionals and leaders who would contribute to Sarawak's and Malaysia's progress. "What we hope to see in return is not only graduates with academic excellence, but individuals who come back with a sense of responsibility and purpose," she added. PETRONAS senior general manager (human capital expertise) Akmal Niza Ahmad said the Powering Knowledge initiative supported a wide range of programmes to empower Malaysians from all walks of life.
