$800 billion cloud market, growing at 20% a year - amid accelerated demand for AI – is ripe for a European solution to lessen dependence on U.S. Cloud providers
Cannes, France – PoliCloud (the 'Company'), the rapidly-growing provider and developer of next-gen, sovereign, High Performance Computing (HPC) cloud infrastructure, announces its €7.5 million seed fundraise.
The funding was led by Global Ventures, a leading VC firm in MENA, with participation from MI8 Limited, a Hong Kong multi-family office; OneRagtime, a Paris-based venture capital firm; Inria, France's National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology; and other private investors.
The proceeds will be used to hire the operating team and grow its business globally with a focus on public entities in Europe.
PoliCloud provides state-of-the-art distributed cloud infrastructure for secure storage and HPC. The Company's solution is eco-responsible, affordable, abundant, and secure; meets the sovereignty needs of enterprises, public administrations and local SMEs; is at the edge because of its unique capabilities of providing decentralization of computing through its partnership with Hivenet, the distributed cloud leader and owner of the market's largest contributor community.
PoliCloud is responding to demand following relentless (c. 20% annually) global cloud growth. Accelerated demand for AI requires affordable and scalable computing power, and the market is ripe for a Europe-led solution to lessen dependence on U.S. cloud providers, who currently dominate the $800 billion market.

PoliCloud is a solution addressing market imperfections. Current cloud expansion suffers from high usage costs and dependence on hyperscalers - such as Google or Amazon - whose models use massive, single, centralized data facilities with high implementation costs and challenging environmental conditions. In contrast, PoliCloud has multiple competitive advantages, including:
Unlimited and flexible computing power, provided by federating with the Grid. By y/e 2025, it will have >1,000+ GPUs and by y/e 2026 >20,000+ GPUs;
Computing resources are delivered to where they are needed and empower local communities;

PoliCloud's operating model combines its hardware and infrastructure with Hivenet's distributed storage and computing software. PoliCloud designs, builds, and operates its own computers and micro-data centers, with proprietary and optimized design, to ensure low-cost, high-performance storage and computing on state-of-the-art hardware.
For example, cities such as Cannes, France, purchase, host, and supply PoliClouds with electricity and fiber connection, and offer the available capacity to its ecosystem of startups in their incubator. Enterprises, such as Data Factory, provide HPC infrastructure to their customers in the US. The result is reliable and scalable cloud storage for public and private users.
PoliCloud was launched in February 2025 at the World Artificial Intelligence Cannes Festival (WAICF) with support from the five cities of the Alpes-Maritimes. The Company also benefits from a positive market context and political environment, as well as buoyant early trading. Having already sold four PoliClouds in three months, with a projected €6+ million in revenue by year-end 2025, the Company is already cash flow positive.
The current cloud computing market is worth $800 billion and is projected to reach $2 trillion by 2030, according to Goldman Sachs Research. Profitability pressure is shifting the market to frugality, and there is a need for cost-effective GPU-based computing, such as HPC for rapid rendering graphics. SMEs are rapidly growing and adopting AI, catalysing a major market need for computing power that requires fulfillment. France's public investment bank, Bpifrance, also considers the development of distributed computer technology as a deep-tech initiative.

Ashley Woodbridge, Lenovo CTO META, explores why it's no silver bullet. The healthcare sector is on the brink of a significant surge in AI investment, projected to rise by an astounding 169% over the next year – the highest increase among all industries surveyed in EMEA. The uptick follows the promising early results of AI projects, where a remarkable 74% of healthcare AI pilot projects have met or exceeded expectations, with 13% surpassing them. Yet, despite this positive momentum, only 2% of healthcare organisations have actively deployed AI at scale with the majority of initiatives remaining in the pilot or planning stages. This raises the question: how can the industry and its partners move beyond this plateau? What is Generative AI Doing? For most people, their experience of Generative AI (GenAI), has been through conversations with chatbots, creating new content or summarising data. These lighter use cases have highlighted numerous challenges that must be addressed before widespread adoption can occur, especially in highly regulated industries like healthcare. One of the primary obstacles identified in the region wide survey is data quality. AI models, including GenAI, are only as effective as the data they are trained on. In healthcare, data often exists in silos, across incompatible systems, and in formats that are difficult to interpret. There are also important patient data privacy considerations to take into account. Despite the complexity involved in sorting and standardising this data, the potential benefits of tackling these issues and making it useable by AI are immense. For example, tools like Epic's 'Slicerdicer' allow healthcare professionals to query large datasets through conversational interfaces, uncovering important trends in patient outcomes and informing better care. The depth of queries is particularly powerful, allowing healthcare providers to uncover trends amongst patients that share a condition or illness that may have otherwise remained hidden. Taking the technology in a different direction, AI-powered 'ambient digital scribes' are being trialled by NHS doctors in the UK. These systems listen to patient appointments and automatically generate clinical notes, saving hours of administrative work and helping to reduce burnout among medical staff. However, healthcare providers must tread carefully. Public sentiment towards AI in healthcare remains cautious. Only 28% of people aged over 60 feel comfortable with AI technologies being used in their care, and 75% of consumers overall want to be informed if AI is being used in their healthcare communications. Transparency is critical. For AI to enhance patient experience without undermining it, trust must be maintained. In countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, AI algorithms are enhancing radiology by assisting in the analysis of medical images, enabling quicker and more accurate detection of conditions such as lung cancer. Predictive analytics are being utilized for real-time patient monitoring, allowing healthcare providers to intervene early in critical situations. Generative AI is also making strides in drug discovery, particularly in Qatar, where researchers are modelling molecular interactions to accelerate the development of new therapies. Additionally, AI-powered chatbots and virtual health assistants are streamlining telemedicine services, providing preliminary diagnoses and scheduling appointments, thus improving access to care. AI's Role in Medical Research Beyond frontline care, GenAI is turbocharging work in the field of medical research. Earlier this year, a researcher at Imperial College London used an AI tool developed by Google to investigate why certain bacteria are resistant to antibiotics. In just 48 hours, the tool proposed four viable hypotheses, whereas it had taken scientists over a decade to finalise just a single hypothesis manually. The result was so astonishing that the original researcher initially suspected the AI had accessed unpublished work on his personal computer, which was proven not to have been the case. These breakthroughs are being made possible thanks to the high-performance computing systems behind increasingly powerful AI models. At Lenovo, we are proud to partner with the Broad Institute on genome analysis, helping researchers accelerate one of the most data-intensive tasks in science. The Lenovo Genomics Optimization and Scalability Tool (GOAST) reduces the time needed to analyse a whole human genome from over 100 hours to just 47 minutes. Other organizations are also harnessing advanced AI and computing tools to push the boundaries of healthcare. Hungarian company 3DHISTECH, for example, uses Lenovo's AMD Threadripper-powered ThinkStation P620 workstations to build detailed 3D virtual models of human and non-human tissue. These models can zoom in to the level of individual chromosomes, enabling new frontiers in digital pathology. Their systems are used by institutions around the world, including Harvard Medical School, Novartis, and the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Notably, a 3DHISTECH system played a pivotal role in diagnosing the first COVID-19 patient in China, demonstrating how AI-enabled technology can impact global health crises. The Human Element Remains Crucial While AI offers compelling advantages, it's important to remember that technology alone isn't the answer. The human touch in healthcare remains indispensable. Healthcare providers must ensure transparency in their AI implementations and address data quality issues to fully reap the benefits of AI. By doing so, they can enhance patient care, reduce burnout among medical staff, and drive groundbreaking research, all without sacrificing the trust and comfort of those they serve. In conclusion, the healthcare industry stands at the brink of an AI-driven revolution. With thoughtful implementation and a focus on maintaining trust, AI has the potential to transform healthcare for the better. The tool, called Message Summaries, leverages Meta AI to provide concise overviews of unread messages—without compromising user privacy. Whether returning from a Wi-Fi-free flight or juggling multiple chats during a busy day, users can now rely on Message Summaries to get up to speed quickly. The summaries are generated privately using Meta's Private Processing technology, which ensures that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can access message content or the summaries themselves. Read- 'No one else in the chat will know you've used the feature,' the company said in a statement. 'Your privacy is protected at all times.' Message Summaries are entirely optional and turned off by default. Users have full control over the feature, including the ability to enable it only for selected chats via the Advanced Chat Privacy settings. The feature is currently rolling out in English to users in the United States, with plans to expand to more languages and regions later this year. For those interested in how Private Processing works, Meta has published an This announcement follows Unlike traditional calls, starting a voice chat does not notify or ring other members. Instead, users can join and leave the ongoing conversation at their convenience. The voice chat remains pinned to the bottom of the group chat for easy access to call controls and participant visibility. Previously limited to large groups, the feature is now available to all group sizes. Users can start a voice chat by swiping up from the bottom of the chat window and holding for a few seconds. As with all WhatsApp communications, voice chats are protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring privacy and security.

UAE's artificial intelligence firm G42 and Saudi Arabia's Diriyah have been named in the world's 100 most influential companies for 2025 by TIME magazine. G42 G42 is a privately owned company, in which the Mubadala Investment Company, Silverlake, Microsoft and The Dalio Family Office have invested. In 2024, G42 received a $1.5 billion investment from Micrsoft to advance its international expansion and solidify UAE's position as a global technology hub. The partnership also included a one-billion-dollar fund to support developers. Last month, G42 announced a partnership with OpenAI, Oracle, and Nvidia to boost the AI sector in the UAE. As part of the partnership, the companies will launch Stargate UAE. The AI firm has launched a new unit G42 Europe and the UK and partnered with France' Mistral AI. G42 is planning to invest one-billion dollars in Kenya's digital ecosystem. Diriyah Diriyah is part of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) portfolio. The company is building a $63.2 billion mixed-use development, Diriyah, near Riyadh. The development is expected to host over 100,000 residents, workers, students and visitors. Diriyah will also feature a wide range of cultural, entertainment, educational, hospitality, retail, and residential spaces. Diriyah promises carbon-free construction, energy efficiency, water conservation, cultural preservation, and human-centric development.
