THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski Winnipeg police are investigating a five-vehicle crash on a city street Monday morning that sent two people to hospital. According to police, the crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Ellice Avenue and Banning Street. Four vehicles were stopped at a red light when they were hit from behind by a 2017 Nissan Qashqai being driven by a man in his 70s. The driver, along with a female passenger were taken to hospital in unstable condition, but were later upgraded to stable. No other people with injuries needed hospitalization. Police said the force of the crash significantly damaged all vehicles, rendering them inoperable. The intersection was closed for a significant part of the day Monday as the traffic unit investigated. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the crash, or has surveillance or dashcam video, is asked to call police at 204-986-7085.

Four people arrested following dangerous driving, stolen vehicles in Moncton

Codiac Regional RCMP and the Caledonia detachment said they received reports of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a business in Salisbury, N.B., last Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. The police lost visual on the vehicle, but it was later found in the Moncton area, along with a second vehicle believed to be involved. Police say one vehicle was disabled on Route 126 shortly after and the 20-year-old male driver from Moncton along with the 16-year-old female passenger from Riverside-Albert were arrested. The second vehicle continued fleeing but was intercepted in Moncton. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Moncton, and the passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Moncton, were arrested. The 16-year-old girl from Riverside-Albert was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Nathaniel Beatty-Gratto, 20, from Moncton, appeared in a Moncton provincial court on July 30 and was charged with: possession of property obtained by crime dangerous operation of a motor vehicle flight from a peace officer, resisting a peace officer failure to comply with a probation order He was remanded into custody and return to court Tuesday. The 17-year-old boy from Moncton also appeared in Moncton provincial court and was charged with: possession of property obtained by crime dangerous operation of a motor vehicle flight from police possession of weapons contrary to order failure to comply with conditions of a previous release order He was remanded into custody and will return to court on Wednesday. The 17-year-old girl from Moncton also appeared in Moncton provincial court and was charged with: possession of property obtained by crime theft of a vehicle resisting a peace officer failure to comply with conditions of previous release orders She was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in court last Friday. Police are asking anyone with information that could help with the investigation to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Vancouver police say both attacks happened in quick succession downtown on Sunday. They say a 40-year-old pedestrian was approached near Granville and West Pender streets around 11:30 a.m. by a stranger who pushed the pedestrian several times before walking away. The same person then allegedly approached a couple on Granville Street and 'violently threw' a 30-year-old German woman to the ground, resulting in minor injuries to the tourist. Police say witnesses chased down the suspect to a nearby lane and held him in place until officers arrested him. The 29-year-old suspect has been charged with assault by choking and two further counts of assault and remains in custody. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 5, 2025.
