PETALING JAYA : Police have completed their investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, with the investigation paper expected to be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers by next week.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said statements from 60 witnesses had been recorded, Bernama reported.
'The investigation is complete. I expect the police will submit the (investigation) paper to the AGC by next week at the latest,' he was quoted as saying after attending the Malaysian Maritime Basic Training graduation ceremony in Kuantan, Pahang, today.
Saifuddin was asked about the latest developments in the case involving Zara Qairana, who was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after she allegedly fell from the third floor of her school hostel in Papar, Sabah.
She died the next day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun had said Bukit Aman was reviewing the case, and police had not ruled out the possibility that the Form One student was bullied.

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Kadayan community called for a thorough investigation into the death of thirteen-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, nearly three weeks after her passing. Persatuan Kadayan Sabah (Paadian) Sec-Gen Mas Farisan Salleh in a statement expressed the association's deep sorrow over the incident, describing Zara's death as a heartbreaking tragedy and a great loss to both her family and the wider community. Advertisement 'Let us all pray that the soul of the late Adik Zara is showered with divine mercy and placed among the righteous,' he said. 'May her mother and family remain strong and be granted the strength to face this immense trial.' He said the absence of a conclusive finding after almost three weeks has left many questions unanswered. 'We now pray that Allah makes it easy for the authorities to resolve this case quickly and bring clarity to the situation,' he said. Advertisement Mas Farisan said Paadian and the Kadayan community have been closely following the developments of the case since it happened on July 16. He said the association's president and delegation had visited the girl's mother on several occasions, and a special tahlil prayer was held on July 31 for Zara, in collaboration with mosque and surau leaders across Paadian zones in Sipitang, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Papar and Kota Kinabalu. 'We have been patiently waiting for any update from the authorities. We sincerely hope and trust that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly from every angle,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Personal belongings of Zara handed over

Published on: Wednesday, August 06, 2025 Published on: Wed, Aug 06, 2025 Text Size: Zara Qairina Mahathir's personal belongings, including the clothes she was wearing when she was found, were handed to police Tuesday. Kota Kinabalu: Zara Qairina Mahathir's personal belongings, including the clothes she was wearing when she was found, were handed to police Tuesday. The family's lawyer, Hamid Ismail said the items were handed over at around 2pm at his office. Advertisement 'There were other personal belongings of Zara that were handed over to the police. We also handed over the clothes and personal items she was wearing during the incident,' he said. Lawyers Hamid and Shahlan Jufri had earlier said they would be handing over all of Zara's clothing and personal belongings, including those worn during the incident, to the police. The lawyers had also said the police had never collected or requested from their client all of Zara's clothing and belongings for investigation purposes. As such, the lawyers are of the view that the investigation paper submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers is incomplete, lacking in scope, and very limited in its investigation parameters. Advertisement The Form 1 student, who was found unconscious after allegedly falling from a hostel building, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I) here at 11am on July 17. The incident went viral on social media and sparked widespread public reaction after allegations of bullying were said to have occurred at the school. On August 1, Zara's family was reported to have requested an inquest to determine whether there were criminal elements involved in her death. To date, there have been no further developments regarding the application. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
