Root climbs to number three in all-time career Test runs; check full list

The 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England has been a one-of-its-kind series so far, with new records being made in almost every innings. The latest player to enter this list is none other than former England captain Joe Root. Root, who already held the record for being England's highest run-getter in Test cricket—surpassing Alastair Cook earlier this year—has now improved his position in the all-time run-scorers list and is ranked number three.
Root started the match at the number five spot with a total of 13,259 runs to his name. He needed 30 runs to surpass former India skipper Rahul Dravid at number four, and 31 runs to go past South African legend Jacques Kallis at number three. On the third day of the fourth Test in Manchester, Root crossed the 31-run mark in the 58th over of England's first innings with a single, taking his tally to 13,290 runs and making him the third-highest run-getter of all time in Test cricket.
The Englishman will have the chance to improve his position by at least one more spot in the series itself. With three innings left to play, he needs only 89 more runs to go past former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, who has 13,378 career Test runs to his name.
However, Root still has a long way to go if he wants to become the all-time highest scorer, as he is still 2,631 runs away from the top spot held by India legend Sachin Tendulkar, who has 15,921 Test runs to his name.

India Equal Own Big Record After Washington Sundar Hits 11th Ton Of Test Series vs England

India's batting brilliance in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy continued to reach new heights as Washington Sundar's maiden Test hundred in the drawn fourth Test at Manchester took the team's tally of individual centuries in the series to 11, equalling their all-time record set against West Indies at home in 1978-79. This has been a series where India's batters have stood up in challenging conditions away from home. From experienced stars to young guns, everyone has contributed to what has been one of the most prolific run-scoring phases in India's Test history. It all began in Leeds, where despite losing the opening Test, India showcased their batting might with five individual hundreds in the match. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal made a composed 101, and captain Shubman Gill, who registered his first ton of the series with a majestic 147. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant dazzled with 134 in the first innings and followed it up with another hundred, 118 in the second innings. KL Rahul, too, stamped his authority with a fluent 137. The second Test in Birmingham belonged entirely to Shubman Gill, who batted like a man on a mission. He hammered 269 in the first innings and followed it up with 161 in the second, as India roared back to level the series 1-1. In the third Test at Lord's, it was KL Rahul once again showing his class with a gritty 100, but India fell short and slipped behind in the series 2-1. Then came the Manchester Test, where India's resilience was seen. Gill brought up his fourth century of the series, scoring 103 under pressure. In the final Day of the Test match, Ravindra Jadeja, smashed an unbeaten 107, and Washington Sundar, calmly brought up his maiden century with 101 not out. The duo's unbroken 203-run stand helped India save the match and keep the series alive going into the final Test. With the series now poised at 2-1 in England's favour, all eyes turn to The Oval, where the fifth and final Test begins on Thursday. Given the form India's batters are in, it will not be surprising if the century count goes past 11, setting a new record and perhaps even levelling the series in the process.

Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal relishing Cricket World Cup challenge

Karachi, July 28 (UNI) Pakistan sealed their spot in this year's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup with a perfect Qualifier campaign at home. With five wins from as many games, the hosts punched their ticket in the eight-team tournament. Coming on the back of a stellar campaign, lead spinner Sadia Iqbal believes Pakistan are ticking all the right boxes going into the tournament set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting September 30. 'We had a good Qualifier campaign, the preparation was very good for it,' Iqbal was quoted in an interview with the PCB. 'We know that the competition is going to be tough at the World Cup, with all the big teams featuring in the tournament. We are preparing keeping that in mind with practice matches, variation, etc.' Iqbal was among the key contributors for Pakistan in the Qualifier campaign, snapping nine wickets during the tournament and finishing as their third-highest wicket-taker behind skipper Fatima Sana (13) and Nashra Sandhu (10). The 29-year-old tweaker continued her impressive run with the ball by reclaiming the No.1 spot in the ICC Women's T20I Bowling Rankings back in May, an ICC report said. Opening up on her individual feat, Iqbal said, 'This obviously depends on performances. The Rankings are determind based on performances. I try and give my 100 percent and everything else is a result of that." 'It's a big honour for me to become the No. 1 ranked bowler in the world while playing for Pakistan. It's always my desire to help lift the team to new heights with my performances," she said. 'I relish the added responsibility of the team relying more on me. It's challenging but I try and enjoy it,' Iqbal added. Pakistan will kickstart their Cricket World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on October 2, 2025 in Colombo. UNI BM
